I wasn't as happy with this yarn as I thought I would be. I was thinking the term Ultra Alpaca meant that the yarn would be soft. I should have read the type of yarn more closely and I would have seen it also has Peruvian wool. I made a 1898 hat with this yarn and my husband said it is too scratchy. He prefers the hat made with malabrigo merino wool which is much, much softer than the Ultra Alpaca yarn. This yarn does knit the project nicely, though with good stitch definition.
I have used this yarn in past projectsa poncho and hat. It is light and warm not scratchy and it blocks beautifully. It's a pleasure to knit with as well.
This is a really nice yarn. There is a good color selection and it knits up nicely with few or no knots. I wish it were just a bit less soft for better stitch definition. I made a shawl with it, which is sort of limp. I would use it again. Great for hats, mitts, sweaters
Berroco Ultra Alpaca is my favorite worsted weight yarn for the colors and price. I've used it to knit sweaters, mitts, hats, and cowls I thoroughly enjoy wearing when it's nice and chilly outside.
The yarn worked up beautifully in a columned seed stitch and stocking knit stitch pattern. I was delighted. The only thing is the navy really bleeds so I would avoid that color if doing more than one color work. Soft finish to the blocked sweater.
