| Tosh Sport, Rosy Green Wool, & a Marianated Shawl! Smooth Sailing... Squared! | | |
|
We have fond memories of school. From hanging out with our besties during lunch to partaking in some extra-curricular activities, we sometimes take a step back and reminisce on the good ol' days, which begs the question - were you an artsy kid, or were you into sports? We never quite understood the divide between the two, especially when things like sport-weight yarn exist, hehe! It's like the best of both worlds, right? Seriously, knitting and crocheting take major stamina to be able to focus and count our stitches properly, and we don't think they get enough credit!
Madelinetosh Tosh Sport yarn is coming out of the gate swingin'! This sport-weight yarn is made out of 100% superwash merino wool. The high twist energy in each skein provides both the strength and softness you need for your next project, being able to hold its shape beautifully after blocking with the ideal amount of drape we're always looking for!
We've picked up the Core 150 Collection of colors to add a little pep in our step! This array of shades offers the perfect amount of variation to make a palette completely unique to you! Try something a little funky and off-beat with a neon sweater made out of Fluoro Rose or stick to your favorite range of earth tones like Coffee Grounds and Librarian's Dream!
Please note: If a color you're interested in shows 0 inventory, you can still place an order for it and we will get that dyed up for you! No minimums are necessary!

As we've grown and learned about the different ways people spin and dye their yarn, we've realized that we just keep falling farther down the rabbit hole. We want to learn as much as we can and broaden our yarny horizons! That being said, we have to admit that we MAY be a little obsessed with our May pop-up shop, hehe!

Rosy Green Wool's passion is in how they process the wool they use. By keeping a close eye on where it's sourced, along with how it's harvested from our wooly friends, they guarantee a high standard, GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), to be specific! None of their products contain mulesing, thus sparing the sheep from any painful and cruel practices during the shearing process!
Rosy was determined to become a safe alternative for people concerned about mulesing in their fibers.
|
|
Finding organic and cruelty-free wool was too difficult for her liking, so she rolled up her sleeves and set out on a mission to make it herself alongside her husband, Patrick! Doing this gave her the freedom to marry the worlds of environmentally friendly wool and gorgeous, vibrant colorways!
They maintain these high standards not only for how the sheep are treated, but for how the yarn is dyed as well. Harmful chemicals that could affect the environment in a negative way are never used. While this can make it difficult or even impossible to create some shades, that doesn't stop Rosy Green Wool from honing their craft in other ways, mastering their own delicious shade range with ease!
Don't forget to check out our official popup page to see past spotlights! There, you can find designs, scrumptious strings, and interviews on each shop through our blog! Every pattern was created with its paired shop in mind, drawing inspiration from the shop's story!

Don't Be A Square!
Or... Maybe do!? We've picked up an array of new Nancy Whitman patterns that serve as a serious treat for our needles! Each pattern has a unique approach to using geometric shapes, whether in a stripped-back, minimalist approach or in eye-catching, interesting ways to set up some gorgeous motifs!
They say life imitates art, and we gotta agree! Taking notes from modern art, these shawls belong in museums alongside their painted counterparts! One of our favorites, the Piet on Point shawl bold, primary colors bordered by graphic stripes, making it feel like we're actually wearing a painting by Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian, himself! How chic!
Each pattern is available as a PDF download, which gets sent to the email attached to your account upon purchase (or whichever email you use to place the order)! We also have a select few patterns available as kits, which include suggestions for which yarn to use as well as alternate colorways picked out by our color experts!

Don't Be So Blue!
We're starting to get a little nostalgic for those breezy summer days at the beach. The refreshing wind, the roar of the crashing waves, and the warmth of the sun goes unparalleled when it comes to relaxation. If we could have all of that with a good project in hand, you'd be hard-pressed to find us anywhere else!
|
|
While we're super bummed that we can't go out and have a beach day right now, it doesn't mean we can't knit up a sweet shawl to prepare for the sea (or in our case, lake) breeze!
That's why we're stoked to cast on the Smooth Sailing shawl, designed by our own Bean, Adrienne! This boomerang-shaped shawl curves with grace, complemented by easy lacework, making it the perfect project for knitters of any skill level! Using the Marianated Yarns Smooth Sailing Trio, watch as the colors add depth to the stripes of lacework and garter stitch, finishing off with a cute little picot edge!
Each trio contains three mini-skeins of a 100% superwash merino fingering-weight yarn arranged in a gorgeous gradient! Together, you get 465 yarns to play with, which makes it the perfect pack to use for smaller projects!

Well? What do you say? Do you know how to knit and purl? If so, then with this project you will be (wait for it...)

The Magazine For Makers!
They say there's beauty in simplicity, and Madder took that to heart with their newest issue of Making magazine! In issue No. 9 / Simple, you can expect to find an elegance in the simple shapes and clean lines that make up projects both big and small! It's surprisingly easy to get carried away and keep adding onto things, especially if you find yourself to be anything like us in appreciating an array of different textures, colors, and patterns. We're guilty as charged for having a bad case of the Too Much gene.
So what goes into minimalism and why is it so enticing?
|
|
Well, we think it's because it makes us feel so relaxed! A cloudless morning, fresh linens, crisp sea air - all seem effortless but require a laundry list of prerequisites to get them just right.
This issue is broken up into chapters like "outside", "beauty & utility", "wear", and "knit & crochet" to make it easy to find exactly what you're looking for. For those of us who want to live life to our craftiest and bring some natural beauty into the mix, this is defi-knit-ly the book to nab! Each project has a skill to learn or hone, complete with in-depth directions and gorgeous photography to boot! Learn how to make a simple kitchen utensil roll, a screen-printed blanket, or an eyelet pullover!

We've been staying connected with one another via virtual hangouts for the past few weeks. Some of the Beans have taken up a few new projects, relaxing by listening to a new podcast, exercising at home, and reading (just to name a few of the things that have been keeping us busy)!
We've begun sharing these ideas with you in our second newsletters because there's no better feeling than sharing something you love with others!
|
It's like striking gold and sharing the wealth, especially when you know deep down that someone out there will have similar taste to you! After all, we all like knitting, crocheting, or weaving, so we already have so much in common, hehe!
While it's fun to recommend new tea flavors and books to flip through, we would be remiss to not address just how closely we've been following the news regarding the novel coronavirus. As things are starting to slowly open up in our area, we've been taking precaution to how we want to follow suit. As much as we would love to run to embrace our fellow Beans (on a sandy beach in slow motion for the full effect), we know that the best course of action is to keep up with the safety measures we currently have in place. We will continue to operate as we have been during the past weeks by maintaining distance from one another, sanitizing our workspace, and wearing face masks.

What's On Our Needles?
Laura's Aspen Ridge Mitts
The past few mornings here have been a little chilly. A slight breeze accompanied by rain is always welcome, don't get us wrong, but we were just getting used to the sunny, warm days of spring and we really don't want to break out the winter wear again!
Our Queen Bean had the perfect project ready to debut so she could keep the warmth in and the cold out. As makers, we use our hands A LOT, so it's very important to keep them nice and toasty! That's why Jimmy brought out her Aspen Ridge Mitts to show off! This handy pattern only needs one hank of Hedgehog Fibres Sock yarn to make, knitting up in the blink of an eye! The broken rib detail gives a bit of elegance to the project while still remaining ideal for any level of knitter!
The Hedgehog Fibres Aspen Ridge Mitts are available as a kit on our site!
