This is one of the first boutique yarns I ever tried, and after sampling many many MANY other yarns, this is still one of my all-time favorites.
It is soft and gorgeous, with a bit of a silky sheen. It comes in amazing colors, each with its own personality. I love how the yarn is not all uniformly colored, but it doesn't look at all faded or blotchy when worked up. I've used this for baby hats, mittens, and so many other basic little projects. It's always a pleasure to work with, and I just wish it came in other weights so I could use it for more projects!
From the description I was expecting this to be a dual-strand yarn, not a thick-and-thin yarn. That being said, however, it IS a lot of fun to work with, and I really like the color options.
It's working up interestingly, though it's not as perfect for the moebius cowl I'm making as I'd hoped. I think I might try another skein, though, purely because of its unique texture and lovely colors.
I love this yarn! I bought a skein of the sapphire lace, and the color is gorgeous. It's not perfectly monochromatic-- there is definitely some variation in the saturation of strands, giving it a lovely depth of color. It is wonderful to knit with, and has a nice loft with a slight halo. I'm using it to knit a hat, and it's turned out perfectly soft and not even slightly itchy. It's a real treat to work with, and I'm doing my best to use every last bit of this skein!
I was really looking forward to this yarn! I had anticipated that the silk would give the cotton a pleasant sheen and make it feel a little more luxurious. This is definitely not the case, however.
The cotton has a cheap feel. Much more like a mass produced yarn-- think lily sugar'n'cream-- not at all like a finer pima-like cotton. It's very dry to the touch, not silky as the name intimates. The strand of yarn also seems to have a pilling issue there were definitely lots of pills in the skein I worked with, even before working it up.
It does, however, have some positive points. It is pleasantly soft when worked up with a loose enough gauge--think t-shirt soft. The color was also nice, though more muted and vintage-y and not so saturated.
It is not an overall TERRIBLE yarn it just doesn't meet the expectations I had for a nine-dollar yarn, ergo the single star.
I enjoyed working with this yarn for my first felting project-- a satchel for my little sister. The yarn was satisfying to work with and the colors were absolutely lovely. It was a little scratchy as to be expected with a wool and not the most amazing yarn I'd ever worked with, but it's definitely a nice yarn.
I love Debbie Bliss' eco baby also a cotton so I thought I'd try this, and I'm less than thrilled. The eco baby has a little bit of problem losing twist, but this splits DREADFULLY. Also, this was advertised as yellow, and it's definitely more of a chartreuse. Not what I was looking for.
When I first felt this in the skein it seemed a little scratchy, but I decided to see how it would work up, and I'm glad I did! It is very pleasant to work with, and once blocked had a very lovely softness to it that I really liked. The stitch definition is also pretty good, despite the fact that this yarn DEFINITELY has a bit of a halo. Overall not as awesomely decadent as some other alpacas blue sky alpaca silk and cascade baby alpaca being my favorites, but definitely a good value for what you pay.
Let me start out by saying that this is NOT a bad yarn! It is soft and does come in some really lovely colors, and has a bit of a sheen which is really attractive.
The reason I'm only giving this 3 stars is for value I honestly don't think this yarn is worth spending a little extra for. It's nice enough, but not addictively awesome as I've come to expect from specialty yarns. I'd recommend Sublime baby cashmere silk instead, it's MUCH nicer to work with.
I bought this yarn to pad an order yay for free shipping, and I'm so glad I did! It's super soft and has a nice loft, which made it work up a little bulkier than the worsted it is labeled. I actually ordered more in another color, and wish there was more in stock!
I used this yarn to make a pair of slippers for my father, and I really loved it. I liked that it felt both substantial and a little silky, and it had great stitch definition. One thing I did notice is that it can lose some twist depending on how you work with it, but it wasn't too much of a problem except when making adjustable rings. I would highly recommend this, and look forward to working with it again!
