A woolen-spun Targhee & silk blend
Sweet Grass's Mountain Silk DK is a bouncy, luxurious blend of 80% Targhee wool and 20% tussah silk. The Targhee doubles this two-ply yarn's terrific elasticity: woolen-spun yarn is usually very elastic, and Targhee is right up there with down-breed wool for its bounciness and irrepressibility, so there's more bounce here than you'd expect with 20% silk. Although the yarn's a two-ply, I decided to knit socks from it, and I'm so glad I did: wearing them is like being cupped in an attentive masseur's handsâ€â€my feet feel coddled! Available colors are subtle, clear, and beautiful the blend of fibers takes them up differently, so socks have something ranging from a heathered to a faintly, faintly striped but not for long appearance the effect is subtle. The yarn is a pleasure to knit with because it's so sensual. I can see hats, mitts and mittens, perhaps a chunky cowl knit from this.
