| mYak, Coffee and Chocolate, and new Koigu!
February is just a day away, meaning we can finally let y'all in on the secret that is our second month of pop-ups! We're so excited to announce that this month, we're featuring the soft strings of mYak Tibetan Fiber!
|
mYak is a love story written with yarn for Tibetan culture by Paola and Andrea in Biellese, Italy. Appreciating the rich traditions and personal respect for their work, Paola and Andrea fell in love with the nomadic yak herding community. From the land to the people to the yaks themselves, mYak admires and holds them in high regards, respecting their traditions as they work together to make such fantastically soft and supple fibers! They've also made the conscious choice of non-depigmenting their fibers as a way to show respect for the environment and maintain the natural beauty derived from these yaks.
|
|
While it was a little hard to narrow it down, the yarns we've chosen to showcase this month are Baby Yak Medium, Baby Yak/Silk, and Tibetan Cloud Wool:
- Baby Yak Medium is a worsted weight yarn spun from baby yak down. If you've ever worked with yak, you know just how soft and sumptuous this is! If not, y'know cashmere? Yeah, it's like that and it's INCREDIBLE. Because of yaks mostly having dark coats, lighter colors are a little bit harder to come by! Each hank has 125 yards of squishy string!
- Baby Yak/Silk is a light fingering that's as delicate on your hands as it is for your needles and hooks! Made of 50% baby yak, you can bet that this yarn has the light drape and sheen of silk! Each skein is 25 grams and holds 127 of lustrous fibers!
- Tibetan Cloud Wool is sourced from a heritage breed of sheep roaming the Tibetan Plateau. Traditionally sheared, these sheep produce a one-of-a-kind yarn that's wonderfully soft AND boast an incredible stitch definition. Each skein comes with 328 yards to play with!
|
Y'all know our Bean, Amy by now - she's our resident speed knitter! There's even a legend around here saying she knit up a whole wardrobe in a night! Hat, gloves, cowl, shawl, sweater - the WHOLE shebang! Well, she got her crafty little hands on these fantastic fibers and happily made some patterns inspired by regions on the Tibetan Plateau!

It's time to wake up and smell the coffee! Picture this: You're up early on a Saturday morning. The sun hasn't crept over the horizon just yet and the world is bathed in a pale blue light. The frost on the ground glitters and it's just a touch too cold for you, so you go grab your recently finished hat and cowl set. Feelin' cute and warming right up, you go make a fresh pot of coffee so you can enjoy the coziness and nibble on a sweet treat - you're an adult, no one can tell you no cookies in the morning!
This month, we've introduced the Coffee and Chocolate Valentine's Bouquet! Exclusive to Jimmy Beans, indulge in a project using 6 skeins of the scrumptious Ard-Thir yarn. Each skein is a gorgeous wool and alpaca blend that feels great on the skin, but we should warn you - this yarn is super addicting to squish!!
|
|
Bursting at the seams, this kit includes:
- 6 skeins of Ard-Thir yarn in 3 yummy shades - 1 bag of an organic Jimmy Beans Wool coffee blend - 1 gourmet sugar cookie coated in milk chocolate - 1 pattern for the KNIT Robusta Cowl and Hat set by Connie Peng - 1 pattern for the CROCHET Arabica Cowl by Ann Wicker
|
Please note: This kit does not come with the required hooks or needles to complete your project.
We're huge fans of being able to treat ourselves, but receiving a gift from another always puts a smile on our faces. Use this email as that metaphorical elbow nudge for your loved one as to what you want this Valentine's Day! Like all Jimmy Beans bouquets, if you would like to send a special message to your recipient, just leave a note in the extra comments field upon checkout and we'll get it squared away for you!

A Year In Review With Koigu!
The excitement of the new year hasn't quite left us yet - yeah, it's a little cheesy, we know. It's hard NOT to be thrilled, because we're still dazzled by silver glitter and bubbly drinks while the promise of making this year what we want it to be is just SO enticing! Koigu swooped in to help us with our fascination with the silver shades (and a touch of nostalgia) with their latest Collector's Club color: 2019 Year in Review! This way, we can reminisce about the great things of last year while still looking forward to the projects of this year! It's a win-win!
|
A light gray base is always welcome in every crafter's stash, but this sweet little skein has hand-painted strands of pink, purple, and blue weaved throughout for a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind treasure to treat your needles and hooks with!
Koigu's attention to detail and need to go above and beyond for their color stories make for hues too delicious to NOT grab a hank or two for ourselves!
|
|
Please note: This color is limited edition, meaning once it's gone, it's gone for good!!

Get To Know Plymouth Viento!
We've heard a few whispers on the wind lately. Something light, something airy, and we could've sworn it was whispering, "viento", calling to us like a siren of the sea! Like returning to an old favorite, we set sail for this beautiful blend of 70% baby alpaca and 30% bamboo with our project bags in tow eagerly asking for more - who are we to tell them no?!
Plymouth Viento is soft and luxurious, feeling great on the skin and available in an array of colors, which makes it an extraordinary choice for neutral-lovers and those vibrant-obsessed alike! The chunky chainette construction adds strength and drape to your project, which looks gorgeous in sweaters, ponchos, and shawls, if we do say so ourselves! The best part? This yarn is considered bulky, so it will knit up like a... well, a breeze!

On Cloud 9 With Island Blend Fine!
The weather around Jimmy Beans HQ has been pretty nice recently by climbing to the mid-50s some days. Other days it's been a bitter, chilly, windy day, but we aren't gonna let those bring our spirits down!
While we can't exactly bend the weather to meet our demands, we can bring a little bit of summer to our projects in preparation for those pleasantly warm nights, right? Meet the fingering-weight Rowan Island Blend Fine yarn - a lush blend of merino wool, baby alpaca, and silk. The softness of the alpaca is complemented by the sheen from the silk, making for an eye-catching project no matter what you choose to make. The wool gives the yarn structure for just enough drape to satiate your luxurious side!

Sharing rarely heard tips and getting down and dirty in conversations that are typically kept quiet, this is a fantastic way to get a good idea of what goes into a business from the base level all the way to the top!
For some of us, starting up our own business is a dream we kept in our back pocket, and for others, it's just an interesting topic than can apply to other places, whether it be freelance work or understanding the logistics behind your fave brands!

Come join Jimmy and four other regulars with 21 Hats host, Loren Feldman (former host of SiriusXM's "Mind Your Business" and former top editor of The New York Times, Forbes, and Inc. Magazine), to dive into the world of business with a new episode airing every week!

Project On Our Needles!
Alex's Zarya Shawl
What's gold, cozy, and shimmery? If you were thinking of the Zarya Shawl that our Bean, Alex, made, you were right! She used our Zarya Shawl Good Silence/Liquid Gold Bouquet kit to create her masterpiece. Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light + Glitter makes this simple lace shawl anything but boring. The alternating golden tones and speckles of rosy pink along with the asymmetrical triangle shape leaves you with an eye-catching shawl that adds just a little bit of drama to your outfit. We can't get enough of this - maybe it'll be the next project on our own needles and be the talk of the party!
You can make this project for yourself with our Zarya Shawl Bouquet kit here!
