Featured in Portfolio Vol. 5, the Remix Light Fragaria Tee, aptly knit in the color Strawberry, was just too delicious for Jenny's needles to pass up: its color is not only reminiscent of her favorite treats to pick in Sweden (she has family there on her mom's side) but also of the color so commonly found on Swedish homes.

Jenny says this project provides a great example of "hygge" (pronounced "hue-guh"); as she knits she happily thinks of summers spent in Sweden, and at the same time acknowledges the cozy contentment those memories bring!

Knitting Retreat Spotlight: Alana Dakos

Designing Stitch Motifs with Traveling Cables

In this 2-hour class, students will learn how to use different types of cables with combinations of knit and purl stitches to create free-flowing stitch motifs that appear embossed in their knitting. Alana will show examples of how she's used these various techniques in personal design work and explain their application. The class will then experiment with different cabling techniques and students will have free time to play and create their own free-flowing design on a baby hat worked in the round!

Alana has published best selling knitting titles such as Coastal Knits (co-authored with Hannah Fettig) in 2011, Botanical Knits in 2012, Botanical Knits 2 in 2013, and Baby Botanicals in 2015. Alana's design aesthetic reflects her love of nature and textured stitches. She often works botanical inspiration into her knits and loves to teach others how to do the same!
