Next up in our Semi-Precious Tosh series is Chrysocolla! From the Ancient Greek "chrysos kolla," or "gold glue," this cyan-colored minor ore of copper was first used to solder gold in 315 BCE by Theophrastus, a successor to Aristotle, whose On Stones treatise would become a source for other texts on gemology well up until the Renaissance! The dazzling hues of this blue-green mineral proved to be the perfect inspiration for spring as we move into brighter, warmer weather, and Tosh came through wonderfully! We even experienced our own little yarn Renaissance here at the shop when we first laid eyes on it - many of us were so inspired we couldn't wait to cast on! Check out some of the projects that flew off our needles this month! |
Cassidy used 2 skeins of Pashmina to whip up a lovely Lori Shawl. This easy but elegant shawl is knit entirely in garter stitch, making it the perfect relaxation project for spring! You can find this pattern featured in Madder Anthology 2: Simple Pleasures, along with plenty of other fantastic projects! |
Brittany knit the Citadel hat, a free pattern from Ravelry, using a skein of Tosh DK. The pattern comes with instructions for a double layered hat, but Brittany opted for a single layer in anticipation of warmer weather - we think it turned out lovely!
|
Ailene nabbed a hank of Twist Light to knit up a petite Metallurgy Shawl. This entrancing shawl is worked from the center out in three garter stitch wedges, and can easily be sized up or down depending on your yardage! |
And, don't forget to pick up a set of hand-crafted Spark! Stitch Markers, created to coordinate with this captivating colorway!

If you haven't signed up for your very own Semi-Precious Subscription, there's still time! Choose a Blanket Subscription and receive a monthly skein of Tosh Vintage to crochet or knit your way to a gorgeous blanket by the end of the year, courtesy of our Monika Evans and Rachel Roden, respectively! |
Monika's log-cabin square blanket in crochet is coming along nicely, and Rachel's knit design, with its stripes and slipped stitches, is doing a marvelous job of tying all of the colors together! We love how the latest colorway, Chrysocolla, looks next to Garnet and Labradorite! |
If you'd like a smaller (and wearable!) project, pick up a Semi-Precious Shawl, also designed by Rachel, and receive 70-yard samples of Tosh Merino Light that will be knit up into a stunning shawl by the end of the year! Due to the mystery aspect of this shawl, we haven't released any progress photos - YET! Next month we'll be featuring them, so if you don't like spoilers be sure to steer clear of this section! If you're signing up late, don't fret! If you sign up now your subscription will backdate to the beginning of the year and we'll be sure to send you every Semi-Precious color released thus far! |

In addition to the Semi-Precious Tosh blanket, we've also got a Cascade blanket in the works! Our pals at Cascade Yarns are celebrating their 30th Anniversary this year (way to go, guys!), and to make it a party, they've partnered with Vogue Knitting and 30 of your favorite designers (think Tanis Gray, Melissa Leapman, Carol Sulcoski, Amy Herzog, and many more!) for a beautiful blanket Knit-Along! |
Periodically throughout 2017, participants in the Knit-Along will receive instructions for knitted afghan squares from each designer, via the Cascade Yarns newsletter. Seven squares have been released thus far and a few of us at the shop have been busy knitting up a storm for our very own Jimmy Beans Wool blanket! Take a look at the squares we've made using our Jimmy's Pick Kit! |
