In honor of going back to school, the Micro-Brewed Series is getting studious this month: we're celebrating The Great American Novel with three classic reads that represent American culture and the experience of their respective time periods. Each of the dyers this month has put extra-special care into creating a colorway that represents each of these great books, and we think they're top-notch! |

We're thrilled to be working with a new dyer this month: Candy Skein! For their color inspiration this month, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald was an easy choice and lent itself perfectly to interpretation for their colorway, Gatsby Ganache! With splashes of blue to represent Gatsby's darker side, gold for confetti to represent the grand parties of the Roaring 20's, and of course that mysterious green for the light across the water, this colorway looks just grand on the Yummy sock base! And with 463 yards to work with, you can make a large pair of socks or a generously sized shawlette (like the Pesto, or the cool Reyna Erika whipped up!) to warm your shoulders at your next party! Also, head on over to Loops Knitting to check out this month's color pairing, also from Candy Skein! For more lip-smacking colorways, check out the Candy Skein website! |

Indigo Dragonfly: Cannery Row!

Our second installment this month focuses on an entirely different world than Gatsby's: Depression-Era Monterey, California, the setting for John Steinbeck's famous novel, Cannery Row. The dyers at Indigo Dragonfly created Sardinic Humor on the Merino wool CaribouBaa base as a tribute to the defunct sardine canneries that line the title street in the book, and the dark gray of this deep colorway contains sparks of green and blue that hint of happier times. Whether you're a biologist or a brothel owner, you'll love this gorgeous colorway and what our Chris Salas has done with it: he designed the Cannery Row shawl to show off the beautiful hues in the yarn, and it's available exclusively from Jimmy Beans Wool for the next month - including a kit option! For more fantastic colors (with hilarious names) from Indigo Indigo Dragonfly, visit their website! |

Our last Great American Novel hails from the era of the Civil Rights Movement and is as haunting today as it was back then: Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest! Luckily, the dyers at The Lemonade Shop have turned the dark message of the novel on its ear with a colorway that celebrates the lighthearted antics of McMurphy as he toys with Nurse Ratched and inspires the inmates to rebel! One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a pink-splashed mix of multi-colored speckles that just screams "party on the ward!", and on the Merino/Nylon Simple Sock blend, we're sure it will look fantastic in your next pair of socks! Just check out the Hermione Everyday Socks that our Lina whipped up in this fun colorway! |

| You've got your books, you've got your yarn - now, get that warm bath ready! Nothing's better than reading in a steaming bath, unless that bath is fizzing with the wonderful effervescence of a Black Rock Mud Bath Bomb! This month's special notion, in an alluring Ylang Ylang scent, is made with natural Illite clay from our very own Black Rock Desert, and will soften and purify your skin as you soak your cares away! |
