| Now, wasn't that fun? We promise whipping something up in this vibrant colorway will be even more so! And everybody needs a take-along project to pass the travel time (when you're not enjoying Mad Libs, of course!), so we've come up with a few that will tuck neatly in your knapsack or beach bag and work up with minimal strain to your hot, sun-soaked brain. Just don't forget your special set of Spark Stitch Markers, created especially to coordinate with this month's color - they'll help you keep your place when you keep looking up from your knitting to take in scenic views! |
The Changeful Socks by Hunter Hammersen will knit up nicely in this colorful yarn; just one skein of Shepherd Sock is all it takes to get you a pair! Or if shawls tickle your fancy, put that Shepherd Sock to the test with the Anjou Shawlette from Fiber Dreams, or crochet up a pretty Esmerelda Shawl from Poetry in Yarn! The Stax Hat from Carina Spencer is a wonder in just one skein of Shepherd Sport, with lovely, lacy details, and the Concamerate Shell by One Loop Shy would make the perfect crocheted summer tank!
For even more fun with words, check out our handy printable Mad Lib PDF on our LLE page - take a copy along to your next knit night or crafting group and wait for the laughter to start! |

| The June Big Beanie Bag was all about yarn construction - and about building something fantastic! This month's yarns were a mixed bag, literally: single-ply, chainette, plied, and flecked, self-striping tweed, all with their own characteristics and helpful attributes! To help you try them out, we put together a bag with 50-yard samples of Berroco Maya, Juniper Moon Farm Moonshine, Plymouth Mushishi and HiKoo Kenzie, plus more goodies: |
A printed pattern from Jeanne of Battle Born Knits that uses them all in a wonderfully warm cowl; a full-sized Chibi Tapestry Needle set, a Knitting Dolly for making knitted cord, and a sample of Heel foot cream from Soak, all packed away in a custom drawstring bag! For a closer look, check out the video! Tired of missing out on these amazing projects-in-a-bag? Sign up for your own BIG Beanie Bag Subscription!

Now you see it, now you don't: have we got a trick up our sleeves for you! Spellbinders International Festival of Magic is just around the corner, and we've teamed up with renowned illusionist Larry Wilson to help you impress all your friends with your prestidigitation skills! Just check out our Rowan Spellbinders Magic Kits: each one comes with 2 balls of Rowan Fine Tweed plus a link to an exclusive video of Larry revealing his greatest secrets - and making the yarn disappear! But that's not all: proceeds from these kits go to Spellbinders to support local libraries through the Education Renaissance of Nevada Initiative, which makes educational and artistic programs like the Spellbinders Festival possible (and free to the public!)! And, once you've made your yarn reappear, you can knit with it! Whip up Kristen's Optical Illusion Mitts, or check out our Ravelry Magic Yarn Bundle for ideas!

| Summer is in full swing and we're in summer yarn mode: the lighter, the better! Luckily, two new gems from Berroco have just hit the warehouse shelves, and we're grabbing a touch every time we pass by! DK-weight Corsica is everything you'd want in a warm-weather yarn: sturdy, moisture-wicking cotton with just a touch of cashmere for softness. Its palette of summery hues just begs to be knit up into lightweight summer tanks and shawls! We especially love the lacy Skylark Cardigan for chilly evenings on the beach, and everyone in the shop is drooling over the beautiful crocheted Vera Dress! |
You can't get more summery than Mykonos: a light and lovely blend of linen and cotton, wrapped with nylon for a smooth, silky-feeling, and slightly shimmering yarn! It's sure to grab everyone's attention in colors that call to mind the vibrant Aegean Sea and warm Mediterranean sun, and the sport weight is perfect for shawls and garments alike. Try it in the Xenia Shawl, which can be knit to any size, or the easy-fitting Odele Top! Kristen's favorite is the new flowy Filia Top,which is a free pattern on the Berroco Website!

| The first weekend of June marked our annual Spring Rowan Retreat at beautiful Northstar-at-Tahoe! 50 of you, our wonderful customers, arrived in the mountains of Tahoe to spend the weekend with us and Amy Herzog to learn about custom fit sweaters, and most importantly - about finding the right garment to knit for YOU! We kicked off our weekend with drinks at the Tavern and of course some knitting and crochet time before heading to bed early to be well rested for Friday's big day of classes (which were of course AMAZING!)! |
Saturday was a pilgrimage to the JBW warehouse in Reno where everyone was able to shop to their hearts' content and wander the aisles and aisles of yarn! Everyone left with big smiles on their faces having found exactly what they needed for upcoming projects...or maybe just new stash acquisitions!
Saturday afternoon and Sunday was plenty more fun knitting time as a group. Rachel and Kristen spent the whole weekend getting to know all of you who came to this year's retreat, some from as far away as upstate New York or Florida - so cool! We can't wait until next year!
