Although many of us still don't know what mysteries lay beyond the wall, there is one thing we do know for sure... Winter is Coming... and so is Game of Thrones Season 3! This month's LLE color is inspired by the popular series that has captivated many of us here at JBW, and millions of people worldwide. Those who have read the books by George R.R. Martin or watched the HBO series (or both) understand the meaning behind name of this color, and even if you aren't a fan, the icy blue and gray shades of Winter Is Coming are sure to lend some inspiration to your next project!
This month also marks the release of a new non-superwash yarn from Lorna's Laces- Haymarket! This delicious yarn is 100% Bluefaced Leicester wool spun in a single-ply worsted weight yarn. We couldn't be more excited to introduce this rustic yet refined yarn with such a fitting limited edition shade. And if the end of the Downton Abbey Mystery KAL has left you feeling a little like Tyrion in the "Sky Cell" dungeons of the Eyrie, fear not! We'll be kicking off another Mystery KAL, "Ice and Fire" style (minus the sword fights of course), in tandem with the premier of Season 3 - using the new Haymarket yarn. Check out the MKAL of Ice and Fire Ravelry Page for all of the details!

Apply Now for the Beans For Brains Scholarship!
|
|
|
The Beans for Brains Scholarship Program is back for its fourth year! Started in 2010 by Jimmy Beans Wool, the program has grown to be supported by many other generous companies from throughout the fiber world! This time around, five students will receive a merit-based scholarship of $3,200 each to help finance their higher education. This is one fun way the hand-knitting, crochet and sewing industries are rewarding brainy crafters!
Spring Break is approaching and could be the perfect time to make something creative and apply for this unique scholarship! Applications, scholarship details and a list of participating sponsors can be found on the Beans For Brains homepage!
Applications can be submitted between March 1 and March 31, 2013. For the first time, sewing projects qualify for applications in addition to knitting and crochet projects, which also still qualify.
Feel free to pass this along to anyone you know who is both creative with yarn or fabric and planning to be enrolled in an accredited, approved institution of higher education in the US during the 2013-14 academic year. Every bit helps, right?! |

There's a new (to us) yarn line at Jimmy Beans that has everybody talking: HiKoo! The makers of this yarn certainly put a lot of thought into it and came up with several yarns that are truly unique. For example, take CoBaSi: this cotton, bamboo, and silk blend (Wonder how they came up with the name?) has just a touch of elastic nylon and is absolutely perfect for those with wool sensitivity. Finally, cool, scratch-free summer socks! We're thinking the Knitting Pure and Simple Beginner's Lightweight Socks would be just the ticket. The 220-yard, 50-gram hanks are great for color work, too, and with 20 different colors to choose from, you can go wild!
If you're not quite ready for summer knits yet, check out HiKoo's fantastic wool blends! Simplicity and Simplicity Print are incredibly soft, machine-washable DK-weight wool blends in 15 solids and 5 coordinating prints. Ideal for economical, warm, and hard-wearing children's garments, we can easily imagine any of the beautiful colors, but especially the Really Red, in the Never Not Knitting Very Cherry girl's dress pattern. For an equally great value in a worsted weight, try the SimpliWorsted! This buttery-soft and squishy multi-ply wool blend is just great for accessories - any of the 20 different colors would look awesome in the Ann Norling Kid's Flower Cap pattern! Wouldn't the Daffodil cap in Raffi and Gold Crest be simply adorable? |

Debbie Bliss is known for adding a bit of indulgence to her yarns, making them a joy to knit with. And the finished projects a delight to wear, use, or give to others. The addition of luxury fibers like cashmere, silk and extra-fine merino wool to her yarns adds a bit of extravagance to everyday knitted items - even simple baby sweaters and hats! But she's outdone herself with the new Luxury Silk DK and Luxury Silk Print: This 100% mulberry silk, DK-weight yarn is one of the most superb, sumptuous, and smooth yarns we've ever touched! It's an absolute dream to knit with, slipping silkily off the needles into a flowing, elegant fabric we can't keep our fingers off of, and the jeweled colors are mesmerizing in coordinating solids and stripes. Equally stunning are the designs Debbie came up with to go along with the yarn in her Luxury Silk DK Book - the textured, lace, and striped creations show off this exquisite yarn perfectly. Our favorites are the designs that incorporate both solid and striped colorways in one piece, like the Mariella raglan sweater and the Donata boatneck top. We think the Donata would look great in the Lime and Tyrol color combination! |

| Have you met Hanna? She's an invaluable member of our E-Commerce team! Always cheerful and often sporting an adorable cupcake hat, Hanna pulls, packs, and ships orders like a pro. She's lived in Reno most of her life, but she was born in Tennessee, so we claim her as a Southern gal! In her off time, Hanna loves to play slow-pitch softball with the Reno City League. You can also find her at the park throwing balls for her adorable Dachshund, Penny - like many of our animal loving Beans, Hanna spoils her little girl rotten! |
But there's something we didn't know about Hanna: she's an AMAZING baker! This girl has true talent with cakes, especially themed cakes with intricate and awesome designs made with fondant. Just looking at the pictures makes our mouths water! She even made one that was an exact replica of the Awful Awful Burger from a favorite local restaurant, The Wolf Den! Turns out, Hanna is a secret fan of the hit Food Network show "Ace of Cakes" and has studied Chef Duff Goldman's techniques carefully.
All her practice making cakes for friends and family, combined with the Business Management degree she recently finished, have set this lady up perfectly to achieve her ultimate dream: opening a bakery! We're behind you one hundred percent, Hanna! Can we be your taste-testers? |
