January 2012 Lorna's Laces Limited Edition Release

|
This last year, Jimmy Beans has seen so many changes and so much growth that it's sometimes hard to wrap our heads around the distance we have come. From our move to a new building (with a real break room!) and the hiring of several more friendly beans to the addition of fabric in our collection - suffice to say, there have been so many changes in just this year alone!
As we ring in the New Year however, we're setting our sights on the future and we look forward to a year full of these exciting changes and possibilities. It is with this notion in mind that our fearless leader, Jimmy, decided to expand her craft skills and sew her very first quilt! The colorscape she chose includes the colors you see here in January's LLE colorway - the rich and fiery oranges and golds, in contrast with the cooling purples. Included in the prints for her quilt is Joel Dewberry's Aviary 2 Sparrows, a lovely, rich bird print. This, as you may have guessed, led to the name: Wings of Prosperity. The name is baalso more than that. It's about trying new things, flying further, embracing change, and continuing to grow and prosper.
Which is what we all want from 2012, isn't it? The chance to fly higher, to grow beyond the person we are, and the opportunity to prosper as these improved individuals. Thank you all for making all these things possible for us with your continued support. Please know that we wish the same to each and every one of you!
P.S. If you're interested in Jimmy's first quilt, stay tuned to our blog, where she'll be tracking her progress! |

Shibui Knits is based in Portland, Oregon - known as the cultural and artistic hub in the U.S. - so it's no wonder they bring us spectacular yarns in stunning colorways! When we started carrying Shibui
Sock yarn this last year, the feedback that we got was stupendous. So, naturally, we couldn't resist carrying a couple more lines of yarn from our friends in Portland.
In Japanese, Heichi
means "juxtaposition," and this yarn is just that. Combining the elegance of 100% raw silk, with the rustic beauty of
tweed, this is a yarn like no other. Use size 8 or 9 needles on this
worsted weight yarn for stylish clothes and accessories. Or, for a
different look altogether, the new Silk
Cloud feels like the name suggests. The blend of 60% kid mohair
and 40% silk is perfectly designed to create a glowing shine and soft
halo. Use the 330 yards per skein alone for a soft, feathery shawl, or
knit it with another yarn to add color and texture.
Shibui also brings us an array
of patterns designed specifically for their lovely yarns! From the
new Shibui
Heichi book, we've put together a number of gorgeous kits including
the Shadow
Vest, Ripple
Wrap, and Vortex
Hat. Or try Shibui's individual patterns, including the Silk
Cloud Pullover and the Swirl
Scarf! We hope you all love these new additions to our Shibui
collection as much as we do!

If you're one of
the many ruffle knitters out there, we've got some happy surprises
for you! With the growing popularity of ruffle yarn, we decided the
only way to keep these yarns in stock was to start carrying plenty
more options. So, thanks to popular demand, we welcome you to a
ruffle lover's paradise. Enjoy!
If you love the soft halo of
kid mohair, we have a few new and exciting ruffle options for you.
Rowan's Kidsilk
Creation is 70% kid mohair, 30% silk, and 100% gorgeous! Katia's
Park
Avenue adds nylon and acrylic to the softness of kid mohair for a
bit more stretch. These yarns look great when knit up on size 6-8
needles and make lovely scarves you can start and finish in an
afternoon!
If you prefer the razzle dazzle of sparkling, shinning ruffle
yarn, Knitting Fever's Flounce
Metallic and Plymouth's Joy
Metallic are right up your alley! Both lace glitter strands
throughout the skeins and blend gorgeous, shinning colorways. While
the mesh on Flounce Metallic is closely woven, Joy Metallic separates
the strands for a lighter, more airy feel. Choose the style that
works best for you--but hurry! These yarns are flying out the door
faster than we can order them!
Do you like ruffle yarns with a more fabric-like feel? Don't
worry, we haven't forgotten you! Berroco's new Lacey yarn is an
acrylic/wool/nylon blend that requires minimal effort for a trendy,
textured look. Along the same yarn vein, Plymouth's Joy Rainbow and
Joy Prism have a thick, ribbon-like quality and added fun
fringes!
Of course, we're still carrying the same great ruffle classics that
started the trend and we'll keep you posted on more new ones as they
arrive. New to the craze? Be sure to check out our instructional
videos showing how to knit or crochet with ruffle yarn! Thanks
and have a rufflicious day! |
