Gosh, we love fall. There's just something so cozy about it! The vibrant leaves paint the ground while the sky above teases signs of rain. The scent of pumpkin, hazelnut, and cinnamon wafting through the air. The first sip of cocoa that warms you up. Everything feels so purposeful and done with intention. Maybe that's another reason we associate the season with handmade projects (aside from the obvious of it being cold and we should bundle up, of course) - the slow, thoughtfulness of the season directly mirrors the mindfulness we exude while making!

To put this mindfulness to the test, we picked up a new yarn this month, dreaming of every stitch we're gonna knit and crochet up with it. Named after the soft, sumptuous strings of 100% Norwegian wool that make up the yarn, Rowan Norwegian Wool is here to keep you cozy and warm all season long! Sturdy, springy, and squishy are all words we could use to describe this yarn. After all, when we went back there to see for ourselves, we caught a Bean red-handed squishin' the goods! This sport-weight yarn is ideal for complicated Fair Isle colorwork as well as single-shade items. Pair this yarn with some of the beautiful designs from Arne & Carlos, and you have yourself a winning pair!

Part of staying mindful when we craft is figuring out what type of yarn we want to use - you wouldn't buy yarn willy nilly, would you!? ... Okay, maybe we would, but for the most part, we take our time plotting what to use. Do we want the drape of linen? Do we want the sheen of silk? Maybe we just want something reliable and fun to use. This predicament is just all too common for us makers. We like to take risks, but sometimes the tried and true yarn is the way to go!

Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light is a yarny staple around here, the fabled fingering treasure trove of yardage - 420 yards, to be exact! Not only is this yarn lightweight, but the single-ply construction lends itself well for just about any project, from intricate lacework in breezy shawls to snuggly sweaters to keep out the cold! Hold it double to create unique fabrics or use it on its lonesome and let the beautiful, hand-dyed colors do the heavy lifting!

A little birdie told us that there's a hot new pattern on Ravelry from the ultra-talented Joji Locatelli, which uses Tosh Merino Light, and we could NOT be more stoked! Perfect for advanced beginners and those looking to dive into simple colorwork, this stunning shawl draws inspiration from the geometric work of its namesake, Frank Stella.

The vintage vibe of this shawl is beautiful, and each section is worked separately before being joined together to make the interesting shape. You can bet we're gonna be wrapping up in this all season long!

Crochet Up with Craftvent!

We live and breathe mindfulness around here, from the colorways we create to the make-alongs we bring to life. Our annual Craftvent Calendar is certainly no exception to this rule. Each year, we strive to make something new and unique that catches the eye. From striking stripes of yellow to interesting shapes and, of course, the box art. Every team at Jimmy Beans has a hand in what goes into it, making this collaborative piece a staple for teambuilding and, of course, spreading holiday cheer!

This year's crochet Craftvent Calendar, named the Tidings Wrap, was brought to life by the amazing Jane Crowfoot.

Drawing inspiration from the season, the open lace motifs remind us of the fractal snowflake patterns often seen in nature. Using math and beautiful aesthetics to her advantage, Jane whipped up something challenging, but accessible for advanced beginner crocheters!

Still itchin' to Crawl!? Newly released on Ravelry are the knit and crochet patterns for the gorgeous Tranquility Cowl! Inspired by the crystal blue waters of our scenic Lake Tahoe and the ripples of light that dance across the surface, our Bean, Amy Gunderson, created this masterpiece for everyone to join in the fun!

Still not convinced, eh? Madelinetosh has recently released a new color in honor of GG, the queen of orange herself, named "GG Loves Speckles"!

Allison's Daybreak Shawl

Okay, we need to talk about how we mayyy have recruited another speed knitter amongst the ranks of the Beans. Our Bean, Allison, was walking around the warehouse one day and came across the beautiful GG Loves Speckles colorway in Madelinetosh Pashmina. She stole away for the afternoon, just squishing the yarn and yearning for a project to make.

And that's where she found the Daybreak Shawl by Stephen West, where she immediately fell in love and got to work on knitting up this beauty! With graphic stripes and an easy-to-follow pattern, Allison whipped this up in just a few days, proudly showing her creation to the JBW team after blocking it. Good job, Allison - it's gorgeous!
