The
Blue Sky Alpacas Baby Dress pattern gave me pause at two points: when decreasing for the neck, the pattern doesn't specify to do it every row (the diagram helped to decipher this). And the sleeves are knit in the round, but at one point the direction is for the next 'row', which is incorrect. I also changed the pattern by opting to do a 3 needle bind off at the shoulders.
Don't be put off by the hundreds of stitches needed to cast on; place markers at every 50 stitches and double check the count at that point - makes it less daunting! If you want ruffles, this is the only way to accomplish it.
I considered making this a true cardigan. However, button holes stretch in knitting, and so the only buttons using button holes are the top two. The button bands are sewn together, and the rest of the buttons are sewn on after that, making it a pullover. Better to pull the dress on rather than have the buttons slipping through the holes eventually.
