Good value and quality for a commercial 100% wool Non-superwash yarn. This has a nice, crisp hand which I have found is good for both knitting and crocheting. Very little, if any, splitting, knots, or frays amongst many skeins afghan and sweater quantities. If used for felting, this takes more effort to felt in a top-loading washer than Cascade 220 or Patons Classic that said, I have been able to wash garments and blankets made with Plymouth Galway Worsted in my top-loader on the wool cycle with absolutely no adverse effects felting, matting, loss of stitch definition. I find it relatively soft and comparable to Cascade 220 in this area, but I am not particularly sensitive to wool. For sweaters made with this yarn, I would suggest wearing some type of garment between the sweater and skin. Plymouth offers a very nice selection of colors in the Galway Worsted and Heathers lines, however from what I have seen online and in stores unfortunately doesn't seem to compare to that of which is offered by Cascade in their 220 line. All in all, a highly recommended yarn, that with proper care, will last many, many years.
Lapis Heather I have a mixed review on this yarn. I love the color, price, and yardage. But, I find it too scratchy to wear next to the skin, even as a scarf and I'm not really sensitive to wool. Even washing and conditioning didn't help.
This is a nicely priced 100% wool that crochets beautifully. It has good stitch definition for a plied worsted weight yarn and it comes in many colors. I was able to lightly wash in my front loader on the hand wash/wool cycle with the lightest spin setting. I saw no color bleed or felting of the yarn whatsoever. It is softer than I expected for a wool and I will definitely purchase this again.
4.5 - five's are for my hand dyed favorites.
Love this yarn! I just finished the large afghan I was creating when I had to order several more skeins to complete it. Though a different dye lot, no color difference is noticeable!!
I'm still working on a huge afghan and realized I'd need more yarn that planned originally. My order from Bean's two of them, actually came in fast time, the yarn lot matches what I'm using, though not the same dye lot, and I have found a new source of yarn on-line in Jimmy Bean. I plan to use this site a lot!!!
