Welcome to our Royal Baby Sew-Along!

Royal Baby Quilt
We are excited about THE Royal Baby who was born July 22, 2013, and we couldn't help but dream up a super fun Sew-Along (SAL) project in honor of William and Kate's firstborn, George Alexander Louis. Gus has created the cutest of baby quilts for us all to sew together: He chose Kaffe Fassett's Shot Cottons in a beautiful (and regal) unisex color palette and added a little bit of appliqué for a truly unique baby quilt. The finished design will measure 40" x 40", the perfect size for all the uses a little one might demand!

The SAL started on July 3rd and was also hosted on the Jimmy Beans Wool Blog. Below you can find all the pieces of the quilt directions. If you are interested in making Gus's version of the Royal Baby quilt, pre-cut kits are available on our website and include all of the fabric you need to complete the project.
Happy quilting!

Royal Baby Quilt Sew-Along Instructions

Pre-Cut Royal Baby Quilt Kit using Kaffe Fassett's Shot Cottons

In case you would like to make the quilt exactly as Gus designed it, here is a pre-cut kit that has all the fabrics you'll need!
Instructions for Block A

The first part of the instructions shows how to make Block A for the four corners of the quilt - in our example, that's the green ones with the crosses in mostly yellow Woven Stripes.
Instructions for Block B

The second part of the instructions is for Block B, placed next to the corners and rotated ninety degrees on the sides - the blue ones with the pink "H" in our example.
Instructions for Block C

This part of the instructions includes Block C, the last of the blocks on the outside of the quilt; in our case it is the purple one with the multiple stripey bands.
Instructions for Block D

Hooray, the baby is here - and we are on the last of the blocks for the Royal Baby quilt - the ones in the center underneath the crown.
Instructions for assembling the Top

Now that you have all of your blocks, we'll show you how to put them together and apply that wonderfully stripey bias tape over the seams!
Instructions for the Crown Appliqué and Binding the Quilt

Here is the final part to finish your quilt - the pretty crown appliqué and how to apply the binding. You will also need the Crown Outline along with the instructions for this part.

We hope you enjoy making this quilt as much as we did - please to not hesitate to Contact Us if you have any questions about this Sew-Along.

We provide endless possibilities for you including yarn, knitting gifts, needles, kits, sale yarn, free knitting patterns, and more!
