Introduction to Color Knitting
Students will learn the basics of Fair Isle and Intarsia knitting while knitting a hat. They will learn how to follow charts, and to select yarn. If time and knitter experience allows, Mosaic and Bohus knitting will be explored. Students need to be confident in knit, purl, cast on and bind off.
Beads Made Simple
The extra sparkle and wow factor that beads can add to any project make them well worth the effort; however they can seem like a daunting undertaking. Learn three different techniques to adding beads to your project and understand how to make beads a simple statement piece within your crochet. You will learn how to use your beads in planned out works as well as how to place a bead on a whim, anywhere in your project that you wish. These tricks for beads can also easily translate to adding buttons and other embellishments to you work.
Historical Yarns: Lace Knitting
Learn a brief history as well as some of the basic techniques of Shetland, Estonian, and Orenburg lace.
Class Preparation: Please bring fingering weight yarn and size US 4-5 needles (circular or straight).
Use safe, natural and sustainable ingredients to dye yarns in striking colors. Discuss how to prepare fibers and which produce items work well. Find out about colorfastness, crocking and other terms. Learn about mordants and how they affect pH balance. See what kind of results you can get from using avocado pits and turmeric or red cabbage and onion skins.
Shawl shapes exploration: Come explore different shawl shapes! In this workshop, we will make mini shawls to explore how to use increases/decreases to get the shape you want and different ways to start a shawl. This is a great place to start if you've always wanted to design a shawl, but have not known how or where to start.
Please bring any extra yarn with the appropriate needle size to class.
