Laura has fallen in love with Alabama Chanin style projects so she set out to try her hand at hand-stitching a whole garment. She started with a simple skirt because it just needs 2 side seams, a hem and elastic at the top-- super simple! This cute skirt uses the chevron print Jay-Cyn Elk Grove fabric by Birch organics with a few little elk appliqued along one bottom side edge. She used brown thread to stitch the skirt and brown elastic at the top. The pattern is the basic skirt from the Alabama Chanin Studio Style + Design Book which shows you all of the basic techniques you need to construct your own hand-stitched clothing. Laura says not to be intimidated by hand sewing--it's easier than it looks!
