Yarns and Project Ideas
Cascade - Longwood Sport takes the cake (or the skein!) for softest and squishiest yarn we've felt; the 100% extrafine merino wool is to thank for that! "Extrafine" means that the diameter of the wool fibers is almost as thin as it can get, resulting in a super-premium, super-soft yarn that's extra-comfortable next to the skin. It's also insulating, which means even light-weight garments are warm and cozy!
We've picked a few patterns that show off this yarn beautifully:
Swans Island - All American Sport is made from 100% Rambouillet wool, a "cousin" of merino that has a bit more elasticity for an extra-springy yarn! It's also extra-soft, so it's often blended with luxury fibers for extra-special yarns, and has a more matte appearance which results in a more rustic-looking yarn. The insulating and soft fibers are ideal for baby garments, hats, and sweaters!
Try it out in one of these great patterns:
Madelinetosh - Tosh Sport is a classic, 100% superwash merino wool yarn with amazing versatility and gorgeous hand-dyed colors! The tightly plied strands are smooth, bouncy, and resistant to pilling, making this stash staple great for garments and accessories that get hard wear like sweaters and mitts. And, it's warm!
It's an ideal yarn for one of these awesome projects:
Hikoo - Sueno is a balanced merino/bamboo blend: superwash merino wool for structure and warmth, with bamboo for drape and extra softness! Bamboo is great for breathability and wicking moisture, so this springy yarn is perfect for garments worn next to the skin, like cowls, hats, and socks!
It'll be the yarn of your dreams when you use it for one of these:
We just plain love Soak Wash. Soak is a rinse-free wool wash, meaning you can wet block or hand wash your hand knit and crochet items by simply soaking them in a water and Soak solution, then lay them out to dry! There's no extra rinsing required and no soapy residue once your handmades are dry!
Not only does Soak make blocking and hand washing easy, we love the light scents it comes in (in addition to scentless), the way it relaxes fibers to really let lace and stitch work shine, and helps to clean out debris in more rustic yarns.
