| New Malabrigo, Shibui, and a Wool Watcher Sale! They're both big boosters for your mental health! | | |
Today, during our seventh class of Jimmy Beans Wool University, we are going to highlight some of the ways in which our favorite hobbies can improve health and fitness! Both knitting and crochet have been proven to reduce stress-levels by channeling focus into our projects rather than grinding our teeth or making ourselves sick with worry. Some people use crafting as a form of meditation while others make-on-the-go as they run a marathon!

Uruguay is a country that has had deep-rooted pride in their sports and culture since the beginning of the nation. Uruguay participated in the Olympic Games in 1924 for the first time and has been involved in just about every Summer Olympic Games since then!
Their most popular sport is football (Soccer); they've won two FIFA World Cup titles and 15 Copa America titles. This makes Uruguay home to one of the most successful football teams in South America!

One of our favorite fibers comes from Uruguay! Malabrigo yarn has entered in a new contestant for our projects called Verano! Made out of 100% Pima Cotton, this yarn is the perfect fiber for our needles and hooks, winning gold medals in the categories of softness, strength, AND shine! This new base is extra-smooth to the touch and has new, vibrant colors Malabrigo is so well-known for (which was no easy feat with plant-fibers)! The cotton makes for a breathable material that's perfect for those Summer Games, after all, Verano translates to summer! Below, we have some warm weather kits that use this yarn in an array of yummy colors!
DID YOU KNOW?: Uruguay hosted the first-ever FIFA World Cup in 1930. They also happened to win the gold medal that year!

Wool Ewe Watch With Us?
If bird watching is considered an endurance sport, shouldn't Wool Watching join in that category?
|
We're currently in the middle of our Christmas in July Wool Watcher Weekend. This event started yesterday and will continue to run until July 27th at 11:59 PM PST. Wool Watcher is a list of rotating products that are available at some pretty sweet prices for a short amount of time (think flash sale). Normally, this list rotates every hour, but the Wool Watcher puppy will be shortening it to 20 minutes for each product to test your agility!
|
|
Everything (except certain kits and needle sets) will be between 35% - 65% off and almost all brands will be up for grabs during this event (grab your binoculars, there's gonna be some good stuff up there!).
Here's a quick rundown of the rules for this event: - This event will run from July 25th 6:00 AM PST to July 27th 11:59 PM PST.
- Each product will be listed for 20 minutes at a time OR until it sells out.
- ALL combined U.S. orders will receive free shipping.
- No cancellations. All orders are final unless we do not have the inventory to fill your order.
- Mixed dye lots will be sent out.
Depending on volume, we may take up until August 9th to ship everything out.

Happy Wool Watching!
DID YOU KNOW?: We aren't the only creatures that participate in sports. Dogs have a (surprisingly lengthy) list of sports they can train and compete in; a lot of these sports help strengthen the relationship between owner and dog while improving the dog's health to boot!

When we think of the act of meditating, what do we imagine, exactly? Maybe we think of meditation as something boring you can only do by sitting on the floor with your legs crossed; being in complete silence trying to keep your eyes closed as you wait for time to tick by. Luckily, there's no one true way to meditate! We can all reap the benefits of a healthy mind from the act of meditation without the leg cramps! Knitting and crocheting can help you achieve this through the rhythm of your stitches and the focus needed for your project.
As we meditate, it's important to tune into our sense of touch, which happens to be widely believed to be our most important sense (as it's the one that develops first). There's something about touching something soft that brings the warm feeling of coziness and comfort to our minds. Everything is at peace when you're wrapped up in fuzzy fibers! Shibui Tweed Silk Cloud gives us that satisfying, homey feeling while we create with it, making light, breezy projects with the perfect amount of tweed in them! With 190 yards in each skein, this lace weight yarn can be used for open, airy shawls or to pair with another yarn to give a soft halo in your sweater!
This fuzzy fiber is the same weight as Shibui Silk Cloud, meaning any pattern containing one will work perfectly with the other!
DID YOU KNOW?: Meditating can give your immune system a great boost! Meditation reduces the stress held in our bodies, helping our immune system and heightening our overall wellbeing.

The Health Bene-knits of Silver!
Silver is a pretty magical substance. With many studies showing how it's a natural way to avoid illness and prevent bacterial growth, it's no wonder how sought after it truly is! Silver has been proven to kill harmful bacteria (that's right, it isn't just for dealing with werewolves!), and this includes the odor-causing kinds, even some deodorant brands utilize this! So, a pair of socks incorporating silver sounds pretty great!
|
|
Feel Good Yarn SilverSpun® is an insanely stretchy and springy fiber containing, you guessed it - silver! Each skein is made primarily out of cotton with 5% silver thrown in the mix! With 335 yards to play with, this yarn makes the perfect material for some non-smelly socks or conductive gloves (the silver allows you to use your smartphone with your gloves on)!
Afraid of the silver washing out? Have no fear, because the silver is permanently adhered to the fibers ensuring no loss in its conductivity and bacteria-killing properties!

DID YOU KNOW?: Morton's toe occurs when your second toe is longer than your first. This is a genetic variant in the foot shape and affects 3% - 22% of the population.

GO TEE-M!
Competitive sports started to gain popularity due to the industrial revolution when people had a bit of extra money and mandatory time off. On Saturdays, when everyone clocked out they went, "Huh, what do we do now?" and football started to gain traction! Activities like this would garner attention and interest over time, growing into the massive professional leagues and competitions that we know today.
Some of our favorite sport weight yarns are staples in our collections; it's pretty hard to keep them out of our bags! With how versatile they are, it's no wonder we bring them everywhere! We even bring them to local sporting events, hehe! In a perfect world, our new tee would be completed (minus blocking it, of course) just as our favorite team scores the winning point. Crafting is the perfect way to keep our hands busy at home, too, watching the game no matter the weather and still getting those stitches in!
Below, we have some terrific tops made out of Cascade Ultra Pima Fine, Scheepjes Stone Washed, and Shibui Twig that would knit up well during any event!
DID YOU KNOW?: "Soccer" came to be as an abbreviation of the word "association" (as in Football Association). It started out as socca, then transformed into socker, before settling on the "soccer" we know today.
