Royal Baby Bouquet

Just in case you can't get enough of this Royal Baby madness, we've created some super-fun Royal Baby Bouquets for all of your (royal) baby knitting needs!
Baby Sweater Set

The Simple Bouquet is available in both Snips and Snails and Sugar and Spice, and includes enough yarn (two skeins) to complete the Baby Gift Sweater Set designed by Knitting Pure and Simple, a free pattern on our website.

The pattern includes a cute baby cardigan, hat and booties, which make a wonderful baby shower gift. Or gift the bouquet itself to any knit-happy mom-to-be!

Hat and Bootie Set
Royal Baby Blanket
The Full Bouquet includes enough yarn and the pattern to knit Ann Norling's Baby Blanket in any of the size design options! Six skeins of Snips and Snails or Sugar and Spice are included in this charming kit - enough to knit the blanket size. Or, if you prefer to knit the crib size blanket instead, you'll have enough yarn left over to knit the Baby Gift Sweater Set as well! Either way it's a win-win for that new little one in your life!

PS. If you are planning on participating in the Royal Baby Blanket KAL and CAL, the large bouquet has enough yarn for that as well! Please note we have found that the croceht version takes more yarn than the knit version and we suggest getting an extra hank (7 instead of 6) to ensure you have enough yarn in the correct dye lot.

Special Delivery- Koigu KPPPM 25g “Demi” Skeins!
Jimmy Beans Wool Newsletters

Just what you've been waiting for: your favorite Koigu Painter's Palette Premium Merino yarn now in smaller hanks of 25 grams! With all of the fantastic projects out there using multiple colors of KPPPM, including the incredibly popular Beekeeper's Quilt by Tiny Owl Knits, we've made it easier -and more affordable- to mix and match colors without having to buy full skeins!
KPPPM Demi Skeins

Each 25g hank is approximately 87 yards of fine merino wool, enough for several hexapuffs, if you're making the quilt. And the colors, oh my! Koigu is sending over 70 of their most popular shades, and they are stunning!

We have about half of those now, and the rest are on their way, so stay tuned for even more color options! We can't wait to see the projects you come up with using this amazing yarn; knitted or crocheted patchwork blankets, beautiful and colorful cross stitch designs, striped shawls and scarves, out-of-this-world colorwork, or even braided or yarn-covered jewelry...as we love to say, the possibilities are endless! However, this opportunity is not. The KPPPM Half Hanks are only available for a limited time - once we run out, they are gone for good!

      Free Pattern- Emerald City Shawlette
Jimmy Beans Wool Newsletters

Emerald City Shawlette
The Emerald City Shawlette was designed in honor of VK Live in Seattle this past April. For the show, we partnered with Cascade to create a kit that featured two of our favorite Cascade yarns: Venezia Worsted and New Kid Seta. The shawl is named as homage to Seattle's nickname "The Emerald City" and uses just one skein of each yarn for a quick and easy project. This little shawlette is the perfect shoulder warmer for a summer wedding, to give as a gift or to wear as a scarf all winter long. The softness of the silk and mohair (New Kid Seta) with the drape of the merino and silk blend (Venezia) are an elegant combination.

The semi-circle shape is wildly popular right now, and the simple eyelets and easy lace border make it a project that is perfect for a beginning lace knitter. All in all, this project is a simple and quick knit that can be done over a weekend! Kits to make this simple shawlette are available in our kit section, or feel free to add it to your Ravelry queue to remember it for later. Either way, we are sure you will be pleased and surprised with how quickly you'll be wearing your new shawlette!

      New Noro!
Jimmy Beans Wool Newsletters

Noro Taiyo Lace is the latest in the Taiyo line, and it's absolutely fabulous! We love that this cotton, silk, wool, and nylon blend just keeps reinventing itself! The new lace version boasts 920 yards per 100g ball and six different lovely colors to choose from. We really love the Garter Lace Triangle Shawl from the latest Noro Magazine. It's simply stunning and great to wear all summer long. Don't be intimidated by lace weight yarn either, this little shawl is knit on US size 4 needles to give it a more open feel. If you are a Noro fan like we are, this new lace weight is a must-try!
Koromo means "clothing" in Japanese, which is a fitting name for this gorgeous new yarn! The cotton, wool, and silk blend works wonders for any of your knitted garments calling for a worsted weight. With a generous 137 yards per 50g ball, this Noro has plenty of delicious color to work with and slightly shorter color repeats than some of their other yarns. We love the colorways in the Koromo yarn-each one packs a veritable color explosion as you knit! Check out the gorgeous Multidirectional Cap Sleeve Top from the latest Noro Magazine - it's truly a work of art!
Noro Takeuma features something you don't often see with Noro: Tonal stripes! Takeuma is a blend of wool, silk, and viscose, giving this yarn a super light and soft feel-a departure from the more dense Noro yarns we know and love. The colors of Takeuma have a very neutral feel and tonally stripe for a more subtle look in your garment. Use this yarn for beautifully striped sweaters, cowls, hats, scarves, wraps, mittens and gloves-just about anything you can think of! How about trying it with the Easy Eyelet Poncho from Knitting at Knoon? With that, you'll be cozy and warm when cold weather hits again!

Heather's Urban Infinity Cowl
Heather's Urban Lace Infinity Cowl

Heather saw this cowl and just HAD to cast on. Not only is it a free pattern from the Cascade website, it just takes 1 skein of the lovely self-striping Cascade Casablanca yarn! The pattern is pretty simple too, with an easy lace pattern that is knit width-wise and then joined by grafting (Kitchener stitch) for simple construction. We just love how Heather's cowl turned out! If you're thinking about following Heather's lead and knitting up an Urban Lace Infinity Cowl, this month is a great time to do so! The Urban Lace Infinity Cowl is the Kit of the Month for June -now 20% off!

Rachel's Lana D'Oro Leaf Hat
Rachel's Lana D'Oro Leaf Hat

Rachel whipped up this Leaf Hat, also a free pattern from the Cascade Yarns website, in no time for our booth display at the Vogue Knitting Live Show in Seattle this year! She said Lana D'Oro was a joy to work with; the alpaca is just heavenly, and continues to soften as you knit and wear it!

Sandy's Zealana Leaf Panel Beret
Sandy's Zealana Leaf Panel Beret

Sandy saw this hat in the Zealana Air booklet and couldn't wait to make it! Air is a super soft blend of Possum, Cashmere, and Silk and it's so lightweight, it really is like you are knitting with air! This stunning little beret only takes one ball of Zealana Air and it's a quick little project you'll be wearing in no time!

Kristen's Moonkoosa Boots
Kristen's Moonkoosa Boots

Moonkoosas!!! Kristen couldn't help but cast on for these fun fellted/fulled booties the minute she saw the pattern. The design is by Tiny Owl Knits and can be made in 4 heights. This is the short height with an extra repeat of the leg to create a boot that is somewhere between the short and the mid height. Kristen used Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Bulky in Olympic Bronze. She made the size 9 boot (Lg) and has plans to sew on leather bottoms similar to the ones that Tiny Owl Knits (Stephanie Dosen) shows in her video for these boots. Kristen loves her Moonkoosas so much, she is planning to make a taller pair in a dark charcoal gray color...so stay tuned for more Moonkoosa Madness!

Sandy's Winter Wheat Hat
Sandy's Winter Wheat Hat

Sandy just loves hats and berets, so she was excited to knit Kristen's Winter Wheat Hat - it was just perfect for this particular skein of Madelinetosh Vintage, a Onesie in Mansfield's Garden Party. She modified the pattern slightly to make the 'wheat' look more like butterflies (Sandy also loves butterflies and dragonflies), but otherwise made the pattern as written. We think it's beautiful!

Monika's Water Dancer Cowl
Monika's Water Dancer Cowl

When Monika saw Kristen's Game of Thrones inspired pattern, Arya's Water Dancer Cowl, she cast on right away using some alpaca yarn from her stash. The cowl certainly fits Monika's playful personality, and the color works really well with her hair! The Motherload or Aslan color of Lorna's Laces Haymarket (the yarn originally called for in the pattern) would be good substitutes!

Terry’s Tips: Yarn Overs - Not always so simple
Jimmy Beans Wool Newsletters

Yarn overs are increases that make stable holes in knitting, an essential aspect of lace. It's not uncommon for even fairly experienced knitters to have some difficulties with yarn overs. Some of the troubles are the different terminology between British and American English and assumptions about what knitters should know.

4 steps for a yarnover

There are four different variations. The type of stitch that comes before and after a yarn over dictates how a particular yarn over is formed. In American English all yarn overs are abbreviated (YO) no matter how they are formed. British English abbreviates each variation differently. The British term and abbreviation are listed after each description below.

- Between two knit stitches: bring the yarn to the front of the work between the needles, as if to purl, knit the next stitch. Forming a knit stitch from the purl yarn position automatically makes a yarn over. (aka Yarn Forward - yfwd)
- Between a knit and purl stitch: bring the yarn to the front of the work then over the top of the right needle again back to purl position, creating a complete wrap around the needle, purl the next stitch. (aka Yarn Forward Around Needle - yfrn)
- Between a purl and a knit stitch: simply knit the next stitch without taking the yarn to the back as you normally would to knit. (aka Yarn Over needle - yon)
- Between two purl stitches: wrap the yarn front to back over the top of the right needle and back to purl position. (aka Yarn Around Needle - yrn)
When working the next row, work the yarn over in pattern just like any other stitch unless directed otherwise in the pattern instructions.

As always please send any questions to me at askTerry@JimmyBeansWool.com!

Happy Knitting!
Terry
