| Mother's Day is May 12th this year-will you be prepared? Jimmy Beans Wool is breaking into the floral business with a little help from some of the most amazing hand-dyers in the industry, including Lorna's Laces, Artyarns, TSCArtyarns, Fleece Artist, Koigu, Madelinetosh, and Malabrigo! Using these beautifully dyed yarns in gorgeous and exceptional colorways, we've created the most unique Mother's Day bouquets you'll ever see! The Mother's Day Bouquet Collection is exclusive to JBW with a very limited run of each color. Each skein of yarn in the bouquet is presented as a "flower" (with knitting needle stem!), artfully arranged in a glass vase, and lovingly shipped to the yarn-loving mom of your choice. |
The Bouquets come in two sizes: the Full Bouquet which includes all 7 yarns in the collection, and the Simple Bouquet which contains 3 luxuriant blooms (Tosh Merino Light, Koigu and Lorna's Shepherd Sock). Very limited quantities of all 7 colors are also available for purchase "á la carte" in case you'd like to get a skein or two for yourself (to match your mother's yarn, of course!). There are only a limited number of bouquets and individual skeins available, so be sure to order early to reserve one for your mom and ensure it ships with time to spare before Sunday, May 12th! Once these beautiful yarn flowers are gone, they are gone forever.
Each gorgeous skein of hand-dyed yarn mimics the colors one might find in an actual bouquet of flowers, and each dyer created their exquisite colorways with flowers, mothers, and springtime in mind-pinks, purples, blues, yellows, peaches, pale greens. Some shades are bright, while some are more muted, but each individual skein is unique and beautiful, expressing each dyer's individual take on this important holiday! We've already received a great response to these bouquets via our social media outlets, and have created additional |

| Angel Lady Scarf by Suzy Allen using Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in Mother's Day. Elegant shades of lavender, mint, and pale blue make an eye-catching colorway you can't help but love - the striking tones are like no other combo we've seen from Tosh. Designer Suzy Allen took this gorgeous color to create this beautiful scarf. Lacy and light, the lace pattern for this scarf reminds us of angel wings, and is sure to look graceful around anyone's neck. The open lace design makes it easy to adorn with your favorite shawl pin! |
Garden Scarf by Iris Schreier using TSCArtyarns Zara Hand Dyed in Rose Garden. Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine the awesome collaboration between Tahki Stacy Charles and Artyarns. This spring Tahki Stacy Charles and Artyarns debuted their new line of Tahki yarns hand dyed by Artyarns that is absolutely to dye for! Of course we couldn't resist asking them to be a part of this Mother's Day collection. In addition to this beautiful color, Rose Garden, Iris (Schreier, creator of Artyarns) designed this charming little crescent scarf to complement the yarn. The pattern is perfect for one skein of the squishy 100% merino Zara yarn!
| Pinwheel Tam by Romi Hill using Malabrigo Worsted Merino in Mother's Day. Malabrigo Worsted Merino, one of our most popular worsted weight yarns, is 210 scrumptious yards of pure single ply merino wool. Their color, a variegated melange of rosy pinks, denim blues, and subtle purple is an original take on the average Mother's Day bouquet. Our friend and prolific designer, Rosemary "Romi" Hill has created a beautiful one-skein tam that works wonderfully with this chalky, muted colorway. Combined with the softness of the yarn, this project is a delight for your senses! |
Carnations by Maie Landra using Koigu KPPPM in Love Your Mum. Maie Landra, founder of Koigu, mother of Taiu and grandmother of Kersti, has designed these charming little knit flowers using one skein of Koigu's exclusive shade, Love Your Mum. Bright and vibrant pinks make up this exclusive color and show off Koigu's hand painted technique beautifully. We just love how these three charming flowers can be made out of just one "flower" within your mother's day bouquet!
| A Day at the Vineyards Gloves by Suzy Allen using Lorna's Shepherd Sock in Bukiety. Inspired by a certain flower shop in Lorna's Laces' home town of Chicago, the fine folks at Lorna's created this exclusive colorway based on some of their favorite hues - purple and green. To accompany this stunning color, Suzy Allen has designed a beautiful pair of lacy fingerless mitts that are both stunning and comfortable to wear. These almost elbow-length mitts feature a simple all-over lace pattern and gentle scalloped edges for an elegant, feminine look. The length is easily adjustable to create a custom set of mitts that mom will love! |
April Showers Caplet by Lynette Meek using Fleece Artist Woolie Silk in Peach Blossom. Fleece Artist's contribution to our Mother's Day collection epitomizes spring to perfection. Shades of peachy pink, yellow, and rose create a color that is soft and muted but still vibrant and eye-catching. The Woolie Silk yarn is a DK weight -perfect for spring and summer- and boasts over anadian designer Lynette Meek created this stunning little beaded lace capelet/cowl that can be worn a several different ways by moving the placement of an i-cord drawstring, making this pattern super versatile and easy to wear.
| Wildflowers Mother's Day Shawl by Iris Schreier using Artyarns Beaded Silk Light in Wildflowers.
The beauty of Artyarns Beaded Silk Light needs almost no introduction. In this unique exclusive colorway inspired by fields of wildflowers, vibrant color abounds creating a treat for the eyes. Iris from Artyarns created this brilliant little shawlette that can be worn either over the shoulders or around the neck for an extra little accent of color. Tiny amber colored beads adorn this multi-colored silk to appear as little jewels within the piece. Knit on large needles, this project can be knit easily in just a few hours!

We thought we had some cute fabric in stock already, but we went absolutely nuts over the Jenn Ski Oink-A-Doodle-Moo fabric when it came in! The bright and happy barnyard scenes remind many us of trips to the farm as youngsters, and the contrasting prints are just plain clever: chicken wire, cowhide, and rolling hills framed in vibrant primary colors. The whole collection is undeniably adorable, and all those cute baby animals made it a perfect choice for a special springtime Denise2Go set: we proudly present Spring Chicken! The matching yellow cords complete this endearing little package.
Denise2Go sets are the perfect item to take everywhere with you and easily fit into your project bag, pocket or purse. Along with the 6 most popular needle tip sizes and 3 different cord lengths, you also get end buttons, an extender, and a crochet hook. Make sure you get one of these delightful limited edition sets while you can - once we're out, we can't get more!

Cleo is a gorgeous and silky mercerized cotton in a wide-ranging and sumptuous palette of colors. From pastels to deep jewel tones, this line has a color for every project! Try it for a cool and breezy summer top, like the Cleo Lace Tunic. Colorando is another fantastic summery option; its colorful plied strands knit up into a light fabric with beautifully marled colors. And in an easy-wearing blend of cotton and acrylic, it's machine-washable! We think it'd be perfect for the Women's Shoulder Wrap. We're head over heels - and toes - for Diversity! It's smooth and soft ultra-fine acrylic with just a touch of stretchy polyester for a weightless fabric with fantastic spring and shape-keeping qualities. Acrylic might not be a traditional choice for hand-knit socks, but trust us, this yarn will more than satisfy the non-wool lovers in your life! And don't overlook Linen Concerto
- it's an airy linen blend that's also machine wash- and dryable, just perfect for all of the frequently used summer garments you'll surely want to make with it. Once again Kristen was inspired by the beauty of Malabrigo yarns (the first time being when she created the Truckee Shawlette in December using Malabrigo Lace Superwash). This time it was the colors of nature and the softness of naturally dyed yarn that drew her to our new exclusive and limited edition Malabrigo yarn - Malabrigo Dos . The Uno, DOS, Tres Cowl uses three different colors from Dos's soft color palette and a simple stitch pattern to create a beautiful and light-as-air cowl that is great for all types of weather. Super soft baby merino wool is almost weightless next to the skin, and makes for an everyday garment that you'll want to wear again and again.
Kristen love stripes (as is evident from her previous designs) and she just couldn't resist knitting them in a soothing range of neutrals that will go with everything in your wardrobe. Choose any three of your favorite colors for a simple and classic cowl you can wear year round! |

This is a continuation of a tutorial on short rows from the March Newsletter. If you missed it last month, or need a refresher, you can check out part one here!
When you create a wrap and turn, the working yarn becomes wrapped around the base of the "turning" stitch. In stockinette, this wrap will be visible if you don't pick it up and knit it together with the "turning" stitch. To pick up on the knit side:
1) Work to the wrapped stitch
2) Insert the right hand needle under the wrap from bottom to top
3) With the wrap on the needle knit the next stitch and wrap together as if they are one unit.
Alternate method:
1) Work steps 1 & 2 above
2) Slip the stitch to the right needle knit-wise
3) Insert your left needle into the front loops of the stitch and wrap and knit them together as one unit.
To pick up a wrap on the purl side:
1) Purl to the wrapped stitch
2) Pick up the wrap by inserting the right needle under the back strand of the loop and place it up on the left needle without twisting it.
3) Purl the wrap and the stitch together as one unit.
If you are working in garter stitch (alternating rows of knit and purl) it's not necessary to pick up the wraps because they will be nearly invisible. For you visual learners, check out our new video on How to Pick Up Wraps!

| A recent transplant to sunny Nevada from chilly Vermont, Heather hasn't been at Jimmy Beans long, but she's already made herself right at home! She's helped enable your yarn habit in the Retail Shop, answered your knitting questions over the phone, pulled and packed your online orders with care, and is now writing and posting up a storm on the Creative Content and Social Media team.
Heather's husband, Marvin, is a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, causing them to move around quite a bit - five times in the last six years! Faced with a choice between several locations for Marvin's next work transfer, they chose Reno as their new home for three reasons: affordable cost of living, safety, and Jimmy Beans. |
No, we're not kidding - bereft of her beloved Kaleidoscope Yarns in Vermont, Heather knew she needed a good LYS and the support of a community of crafters to be happy in her new location, and lo and behold, it worked!
When she's not knitting, sewing, or talking your ear off about one of those things, Heather loves to cook - especially Southern dishes, as she and Marvin are originally from North Carolina. Together they fulfill every whim of their incredibly spoiled dog, Sam, and have stopped feeling guilty about it (almost). Sam loves that his mom spends most of her time knitting, sewing, and writing - all are sedentary activities, which means he can sit in her lap! |
