I made my husband a beautiful scarf in Ruby. People have complimented him on it and he wears it almost to the exclusion of any other scarf. It does have a little sheen which makes it slightly dressy to me. Very pretty yarn.
I've never used novelty or ribbon yarn, and this is really neat. I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet, but probably a short sleeved pullover of some kind. A simple garter stitch turned out a nice plushy fabric swatch.
I know this is hand-dyed yarn, but I had extreme color variations in a single skein, and it got worse with the second skein. As always, JBW was incredible and offered me new skeins. But I would just warn people to be careful ordering this yarn online if you are using more than one skein. That said, it's beautiful and nice to work with.
I wanted to try yarn with bamboo fibre, but I should know to stay away from cheaper yarn. The plies split quite a bit and EACH skein was 3.5gr short of 100gr. Annoying! That said, it looks nice knit up into Cream of Spinach scarf and is quite soft. To me, when knit, it almost has the appearance of cotton.
I got 3 colors: Meadow and Thyme are pretty and look just like the photos. But I ordered 2 Passion Fruit and whoa, it's a very hot pink/fuchsia, not at all like the more aubergine that the photo shows. I doubt I'll ever use that!
That said, the yarn is beautiful. I love the look and feel of a single ply yarn and this is a nice one!
I loved this yarn except that the thick and thin aspect of it was very extreme. The thick was sometimes a huge puff of yarn, and worse, the thin was often not more than the black wrapping thread. But it looked nice when knitted, and also when felted slipper booties. I think it would be a great hat or bulky cowl, the colors are very pretty.
Extremely disappointed when I got this yarn recommended by Jimmy Beans on a phone order. It's definitely NOT a bulky yarn, the ply separates and thus is prone to splitting. I knit booties to felt and they just didn't turn out nice. The yarn didn't felt well. Really a fail since I told them what the project was that I needed orange yarn for. I'm going to donate the rest of this giant hank of yarn to charity. I know a lot of people use it, I just can't imagine why except for the price.
I got this sunny yellow for the beak any eyes on an owl hat. The twist was poor and it was way too splitty. Luckily I only had to use a small amount. BTW, most comments on Ravelry complain about pilling as well.
