Skacel Ovarian Cancer Support - The 'Egg-stra' Special Sock Reviews
Knitting for a cause is a wonderful thing! This eggstra special sock was designed by Rosemary "Chappy" Chapman in honor of Susanne Skacel, a three-year survivor of ovarian cancer. This Teal color is the one designated to represent ovarian cancer, and the Trekking yarn used in this kit has been specially dyed to match it exactly. I was excited to see the kit in support of Ovarian cancer. I received the kit in only a couple of days. I was excited. I love the color and feel of the yarn. I gave up on the pattern. It was too futzy for the small needles and yarn, I had trouble with dropped stitches and split yarn. I gave up and did a standard k2p2 rib for the sock. This was my first time using this yarn, I don't think I will use it again.
I would have given this item the full five stars except for a couple of mistakes/omissions in the instructions that had to be worked out. FYI, the instructions do not specify the number of stitches to work the heel flap 34 stitches.
I am a 1 yr survivor of ovarian cancer. I was surprised and pleased to see this kit offered. I have ordered a kit for myself and have posted a link to in on my Facebook. Thank you for offering this item.
Please consider also offering extra skeins of this special color yarn for other projects. September is National Ovarian Cancer awareness month. I would like to be able to make gifts for members of a support group.
Being an 11 year survivor of this deadly disease, I want to thank-you for this wonderful design and kit! It means alot to me that something like this exists for a very quiet disease. I can't wait to get my order. I am making a pair for all the women on my list (Mom, 3 sisters, 1 daughter and 2 best friends!)
