| Mother's Day Bouquets, New Namaste, and Earth Day! Celebrating with Mother and Nature! | | |
To all mothers, experienced and new, For all of the hardships you've gone through And helping us with what we wish to pursue We dedicate these bouquets to you!
As a way to chase the gray away For those who have yet to debut We have some strings with which to play And keep your skies a little more blue. |
Picture this, you're out in the garden, tending to the little sprouts and flowers that are blooming. Finally! This spring is going to have a plentiful harvest! You go back inside, get some crafting out of the way, and go to sleep. You wake up the next morning and excitedly walk to the window and much to your dismay... It snowed! Now your garden's frozen! UGH!!
Too many times has the unreliable weather been our downfall - we will have it no longer! Leading up to Mother's Day, we're weathering those pesky, chilly days with no wilt, no guilt bouquets!

Okay, flowers are nice, but what if you want the whole dang tree?! This year, we drew inspiration from the towering trees that line our mountains. You can tell a lot about these natural skyscrapers from how many rings are present in their trunks from all of the seasons they've weathered and the type of climate they've endured. Much like our own mothers, these trees are pretty tough!

Designed by our Bean, Amy Gunderson, comes the Growth Rings Cowl. This project is perfect for those of us who want to earn our stripes (hehe!) by trying our hand at the fun, scalloped pattern! This cowl uses a fingering weight yarn from the likes of Madelinetosh, Hedgehog Fibres, and various indie brands! The pattern is easy enough to be picked up by adventurous beginners who want to dip their needles into simple lacework and interesting enough for seasoned knitters to enjoy themselves with each color change!
|
This project is available in a soft palette of pastels which remind us of soft-serve ice cream and an array of bright, neon shades that make us want to dance the night away to some disco music, hehe!
Please Note: The Growth Rings Cowl does not come with the needles required. We recommend using a US size 4 - 24"!

We've all been feeling a little stressed as of late, so turning more attention to our projects has been a no-brainer. We've been knitting and crocheting to keep our minds and hands busy with a little help from our friends (those friends, of course, being our bags and yarn). They say a clear space results in a clear mind and we have to agree! Keeping our projects organized keeps us from tangles, losing our place, and forgetting our materials, so it's no surprise that we splurge a little more on our bags from time to time!
|
But what about our everyday things like credit cards and keys? Introducing the newest addition to the Namaste line: The Namaste Maker's Pocketbook!

Novels and Knits
Even though not all of the Beans here know how to knit or crochet, there is one thing that always brings us together - our love for animals! If you went around the building and asked everyone what their favorite animal is, you would get a different answer from everyone - ranging from corgis to ravens to snails, it's always interesting to see where people's hearts are. Plus, seeing someone gush over a picture of their pet on their phone while they share the latest story of their cat getting stuck in the sink? Priceless.
|
|
But what about animals we don't live with? What about the animals that are struggling to survive? In the book R:E:D: Rescue Endangered by Design, you can learn about the history of over 30 endangered animals (you read that right - 30!) and what can be done to help them, alongside knitting patterns inspired by each of our little (or not-so-little) friends!
Each project's silhouette is unique and perfect for any adventurous beginner who wants to rep their favorite endangered animal for children and adults alike!

A Universal Gift!
Gifting is one of the most fulfilling things we do! Picking out something meaningful that we feel will be a hit and seeing the joy on the recipient's face when they open or receive their gift? That's probably the best gift of all! The only problem is... what if you don't know what that special person wants? Do you keep tabs on their stash or their current project? Knowing a favorite color is a great start but what about allergies to certain fibers or the dreaded "not feelin' it"? We get it, gift-giving can be nerve-racking at times!
|
That's why one tried and true way to go is to get them a gift certificate! That way, they still get the surprise of a thoughtful gift (nothing is more thoughtful than the gift of choice) AND they can splurge on something they may have been squirreling away in their wishlist!
The Jimmy Beans Wool Gift Certificate automatically emails you a code upon purchase, but if you would like a physical copy, please let us know in the extra notes section during the checkout process or by replying to your order confirmation email!

ReBound, ReVerb, ReCycle!
As we celebrate Mother's Day, we have to remember one of the biggest mothers to us all - mother Earth, of course! More and more, we've been seeing our favorite brands turn to alternative ways of making some squishy strings for us. Whether they're made from recycled materials or pledge a donation for each skein sold, we're starting to see a lot more yarn that directly helps the Earth. Recently, we've picked up Cascade Rebound and Cascade ReVerb yarns, which are both crafted from 100% post-consumer recycled materials!
|
Sliding into the spring and summertime knits is Cascade Rebound, a worsted-weight, non-wool yarn made out of 70% recycled polyester (made from water bottles) and 30% recycled cotton. Breathable, with flecks of tweed woven throughout, this yarn gives whatever project you're working on a cozy, lived-in feel. Like most cotton blends, it gets softer with every wash, making it an excellent choice for your next breezy tank or sturdy market bag!
|
Maybe you're looking for something a little bit softer? Cascade ReVerb is another yarn made primarily from recycled water bottles with the secondary fiber being alpaca. The addition of alpaca to this sport-weight yarn gives a soft halo to the fibers, resulting in a sophisticated look for your next project. This yarn has a palette of delicate neutrals and pastels, which is perfect for some seasonal crafting!

Show Your Stash Some Tough Love!
|
|
In light of Earth Day, we wanted to ask around and see what the Beans have been up to! Some of us have been doing our part to help the earth for quite some time, while others have recently jumped into the deep end of it, changing our lives in healthy and productive ways! The past few weeks have been especially eye-opening as we reflect on what we do to give back and just live a little bit greener!
A lot of the Beans have been recycling everything we possibly can, unafraid to ask opinions on what can and can't be placed in our little blue bins! Quite a few of us have also been moving away from single-use plastics, utilizing things like glass jars and reusable bottles to avoid plastics! We've found that one of the best ways to fill these jars is by visiting local farmers' markets when we can.
Gardening has also been on our minds a lot more recently. The warmth of the sun on our faces and being able to harvest food is super rewarding! One of our Beans accidentally grew pumpkins last year!! While some of us only have a small section of our windowsills to keep our herbs happy, some of the others have things like a fruit tree orchard and vegetable garden (one of the Beans has a vanilla bean tree and we couldn't be more jealous)!
And, of course, where would we be without mentioning that we make our own clothes!? By knitting and crocheting, the Beans have steadily filled their wardrobe with sturdy, handmade garments that will last them years to come, filling them with a sense of pride and accomplishment (and warm fuzzies!).
