| Marvelous Minou & Our Fave Clubs + Reno Rafter 7! Introducing our first TRULY Local Yarn | | |
History tells us that yarn was a commonly created by-product of small, family-owned sheep flocks! They would take the wool, spin it by hand, and use it to knit the garments they wore on a day-to-day basis. Flash forward to now, and the world of yarn manufacturing is so much bigger!
The majority of what we knit, crochet, and weave with today comes from places like South Africa, Peru, China, and Europe. The sheep are raised in one country, their wool is exported to another for spinning, those hanks are exported to another for dyeing, and then imported (or exported, depending on where you live!) to another country for you. Phew...That's a long road to travel! But it doesn't have to be. Please meet: Reno Rafter 7. Our first ever TRULY local yarn!!

Rafter 7 sheep, the namesake of our new yarn, are raised right here in Nevada, on the middle eastern side of our state. The breed was developed by our local University of Nevada, Reno's College of Agriculture, Biotechnology & Natural Resources (say that ten times fast!) and are raised and bred in Eureka, NV - less than 250 miles from us here in Reno! Once the sheep are shorn, their wool goes from Nevada to Wyoming to be spun and hanked at Mountain Meadow Wool, then off to Texas to be hand dyed at our sister company, Madelinetosh. From Texas, it comes right back to us to sell to you in Reno, NV - a truly local, American-made yarn!
And being local isn't its only claim to fame... it's softer than a sheep's butt, too!
|
|
To really showcase our Nevada-based yarn, we appropriately selected 7 local designers to create a winter collection full of soft, muted tones, in the most gorgeous of garments!
You can read about each designer's relationship to Nevada and more about their unique patterns on our blog!
Also, make sure to join us on Monday, February 7, at 4PM (PST) for a special Zoom to meet the designers!

Have you ever wanted to pet a kitten while floating on a large fluffy cloud?! That is truly what dreams are made of! Knitting with Minou from Universal Yarns gets pretty darn close with its kitten-soft and fuzzy texture. It's a yarn you have to squish to believe!
|
This modern and sophisticated take on eyelash yarn is perfect for getting plush textural accents on garments and accessories or even stuffed toys!
We know, eyelash yarns are notorious for being tough to work with, but Minou has a great fiber content and cloud-like softness! Composed of baby alpaca, merino wool, and nylon, you can't get softer than this! If you have been looking for an eyelash yarn that doesn't want to make you lash out, then look no further.

Join the Club Before It's Too Late!
2022 is already looking bright! How are the goals you set for yourself this year going? Maybe one of the resolutions you set was to knit or crochet more and if so, we have the perfect way to hold you accountable to keeping yarn on your needles and hooks! Our 2022 clubs are kicking off and we still have spots available for our Accessory Club and Shawl Club!
|
|
Jimmy's clubs are meant for the knitters and crocheters who'd rather someone else pre-plan their projects, are looking for something to keep them creating with yarn, or just want to give themselves a surprise every month!
If you need to get ahead on the long list of people you need to give gifts to this year or maybe you prefer smaller quick projects, our Jimmy Beans Wool 2022 Accessory Club is the perfect fit for you!
|
Each month you will get a digital pattern for an accessory, the yarn needed to complete the project, and a fun notion. We swap out the designer and pattern combo for every month so the options are basically limitless!
|
Each club has the option for US customers to choose an ongoing monthly subscription (shipping included) or to pre-pay for the whole year! It will feel like a little gift to yourself each month that you don't even have to lift a finger to order.
Please note that needles/hooks are not included in these projects and to help reduce our waste and footprint, all club patterns will be available digitally.

Project On Our Needles!
Amy's Reno Rafter Toppers
Our Beans have been giddy with anticipation for the launch of Reno Rafter 7 yarn! Even since the first hank arrived at our warehouse, we have been spinning with project ideas to create with this plush yarn! Besides being our first truly local yarn, we are most excited about the soft, muted tones of the winter collection. And the cohesive color combos seem endless!! Our Bean, Amy, got straight to work on knitting beanies to test out these beautiful Madelinetosh colorway combinations! Two skeins of Reno Rafter 7 will give you enough for two of these color-blocked beanies!!
