Swans Island All American Sport Yarn

This 2-ply sport-weight yarn is Swans Island's domestic answer to traditional wools used for Fair Isle and other colorwork knitting. They developed it specifically with colorwork in mind, but it's perfect for lightweight solids as well. They use Rambouillet wool from Western American ranches, have it scoured and spun at the oldest woolen-spun mill in the US, then hand-dye it at their Northport studio for a truly all American yarn.

Swans Island All American Worsted Yarn

All American is the perfect embodiment of rustic sophistication hand-crafted in the good ol' USA! It's a rich blend of alpaca fiber from small east coast farms and Rambouillet wool from the Erk Ranch in South Dakota. These high quality fibers are woolen-spun, meaning they are scoured, de-haired then carded and spun at an historic New England mill (the combing process is left out in order to give the yarn its rustic look). From there the yarn makes its way to Swans Island's Northport studio in Maine, where it's hand-dyed to perfection!

Swans Island EcoWash Aran Onesies Yarn

Swans Island EcoWash Aran Onesies Yarn
Regularly $14.50Sale from $7.25
These Onesies are first quality yarn but contain small inconsistencies that distinguish them from the rest. Many of the skeins came out too light or too dark in the dyeing process, so color variation in general is a factor. There are also skeins with dots where drops of another color got on them, or white patches where the dye couldn't get to the yarn due to the string being tied too tight.

100% certified organic merino wool that has been gently treated with EcoWash, which enhances the wool fibers to prevent felting. The resulting yarn is soft in the hand and machine washable! All the dyes used are low impact with lots of tonal variation creating a gorgeous finished piece with so much depth!

Swans Island Ikat Collection - Firefly Yarn

Firefly - the newest Ikat Collection yarn - features nine hand-dyed colorways that incorporate striking white resist patterns against a single deep tone. Dyed using the same ancient Ikat technique, this fresh new addition to the Ikat Collection sports an entirely different look with striking results. The delicate accents of white resist marks are achieved by hand-tying each skein in a distinct pattern before saturating it in a rich bath of low-impact dye. When knit up, these bold resist marks reveal intriguing patterns of white stitches against their rich, dark grounds. The effect reminded us of fireflies sparkling against a night sky!

Swans Island Natural Colors Fingering Yarn

This incredible fingering weight yarn is dyed with natural dyes in a labor intensive process that brings much joy to the dyer, the knitter and the environment. It results in beautiful yarns with lots of variegation that vary from lot to lot. The generous 525 yards per skein is enough to create an exquisite shawl.

**PLEASE NOTE** Some of the colors are dyed with all natural Indigo. The dyeing process for indigo is quite different from other plant based dyes as the Indigo molecues sit on top of the fiber rather than penetrating into it. Because of this, it is the inherent nature of natural indigo dyed yarns to have some rub off. Everything has been done to minimize this, but you may experience some color rubbing onto your hands or needles. All colors that are created using Indigo are identified with a special tag.
