Surprise cables & splitting yarn 2 out of 5 stars (2 out of 5)
If I had known this pattern involved cable stitches I might not have purchased this kit never done cables before this. The yarn is very soft and slippy, but the individual threads that make up the strand have a tenancy to separate and make tiny birds nests across the project if you’re not REALLY careful. Overall I think I’d pick a higher quality yarn for this if I did it again. I’ve already ripped back all the way to the beginning once.

Poorly written directions 1 out of 5 stars (1 out of 5)
I would give this kit zero stars. I was excited when the kit arrived but soon realized it did not include wool for the hat. Shame on me, I guess, for thinking Jimmy Beans Wool Blitz Beanie Football Hat meant the hat was wool fiber. Not so. Acrylic/Nylon yarn was included for the project. I started knitting and finally realized I needed to reprint the grid to enlarge it. As I worked I could tell this was not coming out like the picture and I started over. I then went to my local yarn shop and they instructed me on the colors of the grid etc. I started over again and once again the pattern worked up, incorrectly, as it had before. I could not find the pattern author on Ravelry or your website. I cut the yarn, purchased some wool yarn, labeled the colors on the grid correctly and continued to work using the “helpful” grid only to get to row 40 to find I failed change needle size at row 38 that information was in the written notes, only Nevertheless, I worked on and continued to use the grid. Unfortunately, the grid was misleading and I had to refer to the written directions. The link to YouTube for video directions was not helpful either. I’m guessing the note: for cable squares ... was to make the grid correct or less confusing but it was a major fail. These are poorly written directions and wool is the better yarn for this project.

Meh 4 out of 5 stars (4 out of 5)
Overall the finished product is fun. The yarn quality was not that great. I might just be a yarn snob but it was stringy and very synthetic feeling. I am not that great at colorwork so I do have some puckers in the colored sections of the hat. I did not use the chart at all. I liked how the directions were written out. I do have enough yarn to knit a second one. The first one I knit was for my mother-in-law. The second will be for my husband. The colors for Green Bay are perfect. Definitely not a project that I could watch TV doing. Had to pay attention for this one. Quick knit overall though.

Not Eagles Colors 1 out of 5 stars (1 out of 5)
Looks like a cute hat, but those are not Philadelphia Eagles colors. Green and white or green and silver, but NOT blue!!!

Football Hats for Mom and Dad 5 out of 5 stars (5 out of 5)
My mom just had back surgery, she is a BIG 49rs fan, and she is allergic to wool. When I saw this kit I knew it was a perfect recovery gift for her. It was awesome that I could get a second one made for dad too! The chart was a bit confusing, but it is set up so that you read what is suppose to be on the needles after you have finished a row. When I gave the hat to my mom she bragged about it to all her friends and everyone loves the pattern and fit of the hat. Mom also loves how she can easily wash it and not worry about ruining her gift. All together, it was the perfect surprise gift for my mom and dad, especially with football season starting!!! 🏈❤️'🖤

Great Concept poorly carried out 2 out of 5 stars (2 out of 5)
I really like this idea, but I had a number of issues with both the yarn and the pattern, and I am a very experienced knitter. 1. The yarn is not wool. And the yarn is very splitty, not a good choice for the so-called cables actually just crossed stitches or slip stitches. It is also entirely synthetic, which is not a good choice for a winter hat, when warmth is generally needed. 2. I usually love charts and prefer using them to written patterns. But this chart was nearly unreadable. The colors are so dark it is hard to see the writing in the squares, and the chart is also rather small. Also, it does not use one of the common knitting symbol sets. 3. There are no instructions on how to attach the pompom or the label. While I realize these are both simple actions, a complete pattern should include this information. In addition to being a knitter, I am also a designer. 4. Finally, the pompom does not match any of the colors in the kit. Instead, it is black. Overall, although I successfully finished knitting my hat, I am disappointed.
