The Uno, DOS, Tres Cowl is one of our most popular free patterns to date. The original version used a sport weight yarn and smaller needles, but we wanted something a little more warm and squishy for fall and winter.
Enter the Tres Tosh Cowl! This version still uses three different colors and a simple stitch pattern, but we've bulked it up a bit with worsted weight Tosh Vintage Short Skeins (regular skeins work too!) and larger needles. You can knit a short version, similar to the original Uno, Dos, Tres Cowl, or the longer version pictured here... or anything in between if you prefer to customize!
Choose any three of your favorite Tosh hues for a simple and classic cowl you can wear year round!

Finished Measurements:
- Long version (pictured): Approx. 9" tall x 58" circumference
- Short Version: 11" tall x 25" circumference
- Please Note: The size of this cowl is easily customizable. You could cast on fewer stitches (in multiples of 2) to create a shorter cowl.
The double looped cowl pictured used almost every last bit of the Vintage Short Skeins in the Dirty Panther (Color A), but the pattern is intended for you to continue knitting until you either reach a height you like, or until you run out of yarn. Whichever comes first.
If you knit the short version, you should be able to get 2 cowls out of the 3 skeins of yarn.
Gauge:
- 19 sts and 38 rounds= 4" in Half Linen Stitch pattern
