The sun is setting on these sweltering hot days and the end of summer is almost here...but that doesn't quite mean the end of fresh seasonal produce! A variety of berries are at their peak this month, including some of our favorites - huckleberries!
| Because of our own Huckleberry (you know, the adorable blonde, curly-haired one), we thought a color inspired by his namesake berry would be fun for September's Tasty Tosh installment. Fresh Picked Huckleberries is a gorgeous purply pink tonal color and is the perfect way to finish off the warm months! |
It's time for making jams, baking pies, and maybe even a buckle or two, just like the Huckleberry Buckle (isn't that fun to say?!?!?) recipe we've included with this month's Tasty Tosh Color! | Want to knit this in a different color combo? Perhaps with the same colors as the original Baja Sunrise Shawl in Mexican Grilled Street Corn and Cousteau? Those are available in Twist Light as well! You can still download this pattern for just $1 in Kristen's Marinade Designs Ravelry shop through the end of October...then get to work picking out your own favorite colors! (See the Baja Sunset Ravelry Page for some ideas!) |

We always count on Rowan for classic, high-quality yarns with amazing pattern support - and after learning from Rowan designer Martin Storey at our 2015 Summer Retreat, it's easy to see why those patterns are so awesome! And, of course, their lineup for this fall does not disappoint: Comfort is key with these new yarns and patterns, and we're ready to get started on a cozy winter wardrobe!
| The new Super Fine Merino line is everything you'd want in a knitting staple: ultra-soft, extra-fine merino wool in 4ply Fingering, DK, and Aran weights - perfect for sweaters, accessories, and more! We love the Greenwich Sweater from Easy DK Knits; the classic "boyfriend" style is relaxed, cozy, and flattering! In fact, all the patterns from this book are just gorgeous - and so are the designs from the companion book, Easy Aran Knits! |
Easy DK Knits holds another gem: the
Pimlico Cardigan in new Pure Wool Superwash DK! You'll want to create this swingy, cabled cardi in a machine-washable yarn, because you'll be wearing it all the time! Or, with 32 beautiful colors to choose from, you can knit one for every day of the week - that's our plan!
| |
| For even cozier knits, pick up some pleasingly plump and squishy Big Wool Silk: It's super-bulky and slightly silky for ultra-plush knits with a touch of luxury! We can't wait to cast on for the gorgeously textured Turmeric Wrap from Autumn Accessories; wear it as a long, looped cowl or a warm, wrapped vest! |
Lovers of Rowan Lima, take note: new Alpaca Merino DK is out to steal your hearts! This chainette-construction blend of alpaca, merino, and nylon is the ultimate in softness, with just enough structure to make gorgeous sweaters and accessories. Need proof? Just look at the Etherow Pullover from Sarah Hatton's Winterscapes book!
| How about a versatile, breathable, and delightfully tweedy-looking yarn? New Hemp Tweed is exactly what you want for light but insulating trans-seasonal garments that just improve with wearing! The addition of hemp to the soft wool creates a gorgeously marled look that's just perfect in a rustic, subtly textured sweater like the Suffolk Pullover from the Hemp Tweed book. Talk about rugged good looks! |
The best way to show off the new, elegant tonal colors of Fine Art we just received is with a simple but stunning pattern: just like the Aramis Shawl from the Simple Shapes book by Sarah Hatton, for example! This slim volume is packed with lovely designs that use Fine Art and Fine Lace to their best advantage - alone and together!

The first round of our first ever Binge MKAL / MCAL has completed, but due to popular demand, we are doing another round September 25-27th for everyone who missed out on getting their yarn in time! We are so thrilled that there are so many 'Browncoats' out there who want to re-watch Firefly and knit and crochet with us, that we ordered more Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport yarn and more kits so we could host another round of this popular Binge MKAL/MCAL! Come knit and crochet with us, and enjoy a 2nd (or 3rd or let's face it, 15th) re-watch of this iconic series. Get your Netflix or DVDs queued up, yarn ordered, needles or hooks in hand, and be ready to go on the 25th! Also be sure to check out the Round 2 Firefly Pre-Event Chat Ravelry Thread, to avoid accidentally seeing spoilers (unless you want to - in which case, check out the Spoiler Threads from Round 1!) Rachel and Leanne are raring to go for round 2! Are you? |

We've got some great new (and a few older) chunky yarns in stock for fall, and we can't help but get excited for some quick, instant gratification knits to be wearing by the time the first leaf drops!
| First up we have Juniper Moon Farm's Moonshine Chunky: This heavier version of the Moonshine is scrum-diddly-umptious, and perfect for big accessories! Try out some of the designs from the Supermoon Collection like the squishy Eclipse Cowl. Or, if garments are more your thing, try out the Hermite Poncho or the Tidal Cardigan! |
Among our new fall favorites is Reluxe Cashmere from Jade Sapphire. Reluxe is made from recycled cashmere sweaters that are re-processed to become a whole new yarn! Available in eight pretty shades, one ball is enough to do a number of projects, including the Cashmere Neckie or some Bulky Hats for the Whole Family - both available on our Free Patterns Page! To truly wrap yourself in luxury, grab two balls to make the ever-popular GAP-tastic Cowl, free on Ravelry!
| Also on the "new list" this fall is Berroco's Ultra Alpaca Chunky Tonal in six gorgeous colors! Take them for a test-drive with the Simply Scarves crochet pattern from Francine Toukou. If you are itching to knit with this instead, try the Pontos Cardigan by The Yarniad for a quick wooly alpaca knit! |
Up next we have Lorna's Laces Cloudgate, which was new this spring, but is really well suited for cooler months! For something cozy you'll want to wear all winter long, check out the Katy Tunic by Kate Oates: it's like a cozy blanket that is acceptable to wear in public! Other awesome knits for Cloudgate include the Palone Baby Blanket and the What the Water Gave Me Shawl, both available on Ravelry.
| Lastly we have Malabrigo Chunky - though not a new yarn, it was new to us last winter. Since we've added it to our collection, we've gone a little chunky crazy because of its softness and great colors! Check out the Malabrigo Chunky version of the Game of Thrones MKAL 2015 design - The Halfman's Mantle (originally knit in Lorna's Laces Cloudgate)- that Kristen made in Stone Blue, it's stunning! We also love the Foliage hat pattern, a Knitty classic, and the Thorpe hat pattern, both available for free! |

| Ready to for fall layering? We are! We've been waiting patiently for cool weather to return so we can don our favorite neckwear. But because it's fun to wear something new, we've put together these kits using some of our favorite Baah yarns ( La Jolla, Sonoma and Shasta) and new patterns to get you started! |
We've got several gorgeous cowl options for you to choose from: First up we have Mira's Cowl, a simple one-skein project in Baah La Jolla. This cowl is knit in fingering weight yarn on larger needles (US 7) for an elegant, ribby cowl that will look great scrunched under fall jackets! Next we have the Color Play Cowl, for a little bit of multi-colored goodness! With two colors that you alternate several times in a chevron pattern, this double looped cowl is a delightful pop of brightness in your wardrobe! And then there is the two-color Honeycomb Cowl knit in squishy Shasta, and a straightforward Double Seed Cowl, also in two colors - this time in Sonoma.
We've personally matched each one of these color options to create some pretty and fun combos you'll love! |

We're gearing up for cool weather with an extra-special (and extra-soft) Knit-Along with Carol Feller and Fyberspates: The Mithral Pullover uses Fyberspates Cumulus to create a light, fluffy cloud of a sweater that will keep the fall chills at bay without adding weight to your wardrobe - just what you need for when those fall frosts start landing! The KAL kicks off on October 1st and goes through November 19th, so you can have this gorgeous piece ready to wear to all of your holiday shindigs! It's a sort of MKAL hybrid: you'll know what you're knitting ahead of time, but the four clues are a surprise! We have kits available to get you started with everything you need; just let us know in the order notes what color you want, and we'll send you the yarn and the download code for the pattern - easy! |

| Like a catchy tune you just have to whistle all day, sometimes a pattern just begs you to knit it over and over; for our Sandy, that's the Pembroke Shawl by Andrea Rangel! She's knit at least five of these bulky and beautiful creations, each one more colorful and interesting than the last! We're here to show you why it's worth knitting again and again, and how different yarns can change the look and feel of the shawl to make each one seem like a whole new knit! |
Sandy's first Pembroke was knit in Tahki Montana Print, a self-striping, roving-style super bulky yarn. She loved how quickly this shawl knit up, and the single-ply roving created a plush, lofty shawl that was still light enough to wear indoors. We no longer carry the Montana Print, but Tahki Montana would make a lovely solid-color version! Other great colorful options are Berroco Brio and Rowan Big Wool Colour.
| Once she got started, there was no stopping her: Sandy knit up two more Pembrokes, one in Madelinetosh Home and one in Koigu Bulky! Both of these gorgeous, 100% wool, hand-dyed yarns are plied, meaning they're less likely to pill and have a slightly springier feel than a single or roving-style yarn. But Sandy didn't quit there: she added one more in stunning, space-dyed Malabrigo Chunky! |
Sandy knit her latest Pembroke in Misti Alpaca Chunky, a luminous and superbly soft 100% baby alpaca yarn. Because alpaca fibers are hollow, this beauty is both warm and light with wonderful drape. We're sure it will keep her warm all winter... unless we borrow it (hint, hint, Sandy - you've got shawls to spare!)!
