We've got something that'll put a little extra stitch in your giddy-up this month: a Firefly-inspired Lorna's Laces Limited Edition colorway and a Binge Mystery Craft-Along to go with it!
We know more than a few fans of the space-western saga (you know who you Browncoats are!), and even though it was just a one-season wonder, you can't take the skein, I mean sky, from us!
Now, grab your knittin' and crochetin' weapons of choice (ours are named Vera), and hold on as we leave atmo because we have an extra-special surprise: a joint MKAL and MCAL! Rachel and Leanne have teamed up to create our very first Binge Mystery Craft-Along - several clues released in quick succession over 3 days, so you can knit or crochet as speedily (or slowly!) as you wish, while watching the show (all the episodes are available on Netflix and Amazon Prime)!
Grab 2 skeins of Shepherd Sport, or go ahead and pick up a kit to knit or crochet your very own Bandana Cowl - both designs are a mighty piece of pretty, and they'll keep your neck warm on those cold nights in space (or you know, on planet earth, too!) Join the fun in the JBW Ravelry Group - it starts September 11th! | And be sure to pick up these little "pieces of pretty" from Spark to adorn your projects in your Serenity yarn! This sparkly set is too perfect to pass up! |

We hope we've proven that great things come in little packages - if you doubt it, just check out our newest yarn samplers: Berroco Bento Boxes! |
Each adorable take-out container comes packed with 12 mini-balls of the most popular Berroco worsted and Aran-weight yarns (including some of the new fall yarns!), plus US 8 straight needles (just imagine they're chopsticks!), a silicone cupcake liner to hold your stitch markers (or soy sauce!) and a pattern using every mini in the box!
|
Designed especially for these boxes, the Nami Cowl is a wavy, textural, and striped design that's sure to whet your appetite for feather-and-fan lace! Choose from one of 5 pretty palettes and fill up on fantastic fiber!
| PS. If you've seen the Fall issue of Vogue Knitting, you might already have the pattern for the Nami Cowl printed on one of the cards tucked inside the issue! You can use that freebie to knit your own unique take on the Nami Cowl from scraps in your stash! |

Our warehouse is just brimming with Berroco! As the cool air approaches, we've stocked up on the newest Berroco yarns for fall and we're getting ready to stay inside - and MAKE our own fun! | Want a super-quick project in an eye-catchingly colorful yarn? Check out the oversized Wild Violets or Fir shawls in new Berroco Gusto! This super-bulky, thick-and-thin wool blend, is beyond cozy, and the multi-colored skeins are just to die for! Be sure to check out all of our kits for Gusto as well. Whether you're staying warm in the office or snuggled up with a good book, this cuddly wrap will keep you toasty in any temperature! |
| Berroco Briza is destined to become your go-to yarn for soft airy knits! It's a blend of fine mohair, nylon, and wool in a quick-working worsted weight that sits lightly on the skin and floats over the shoulders. Try it in the new Anza Cowl, in a pretty lace design, or the open Broderick Shawl for a wear-everywhere piece! Want sweaters? Check out the rest of our Briza Kits! |
| Next up on our knitting list is the Cocoon Cardigan in plush and squishy North Star! Easy stockinette with a gorgeous garter-stitch collar, we're keeping this one by the door so we can wrap up in it whenever we go out! It's generously sized to fit over winter clothes like a coat, or to snuggle down into on the couch - your choice! Or, for just a little bit of layering, try the Burrow Shawl! |
| Let your inner craftsperson shine with new Artisan - this luxe blend of merino wool and silk is dip-dyed, creating a range of gorgeous tonal colors that will look amazing in your new Saturnia Pullover! The simple textured stitches and knitterly details (the lace side panels are just marvelous!) make this unassuming pullover into an attention-grabber! Or, wrap up in the stunning Ceonothus Shawl, which is equally stunning. There were so many beautiful designs in this yarn; we just had to make " all-the-kits!" |
| New Berroco Colora might not be brazenly bright, but it's sure to catch your eye - and keep it! The softly shaded, multi-colored hues of this DK-weight gem look great by themselves like in the Damariscotta Pullover or in a 2-color project like the Scarborough Scarf! The effortless, all-over textured stitch is as fun to touch as it is to knit, and the contrasting ribbed edges add just the right amount of subtle style. |
| We're not through yet: we can't mention Berroco without talking about the newest pattern phenomenon: Portfolio Vol. 1! This gorgeously and expertly styled volume is a celebration of the Ultra Alpaca line: Martina Behm keeps it light and colorful with the Mrs. Watson in Ultra Alpaca Light, while Bristol Ivy uses worsted weight Ultra Alpaca to make her Gorse Cardigan extra-cozy. Pick up your copy and pore over all thirteen of the timeless wardrobe pieces in a timeless yarn!

| Many people (even knitters!) think "lace" is synonymous with "shawl" - and it's true, the two go well together! But one of our favorite designers (and Northern Nevada local), Romi Hill, is here to show us everything else lace can be with her book, New Lace Knitting: Designs for Wide Open Spaces. |
From simple embellishments on the collar of a sweater, to repeated motifs that make up an entire garment, Romi has applied her love of lace and knowledge of knitting it to every lovely pattern in this book - shawls included! We especially love the drapey, casual look of the Williwaw Cardigan - it's going to become a frequent sight around the shop, we're sure! The Bright Moment Cardigan shows how fantastic a single motif can look when it's repeated - beautiful! We have the book available for preorder, but until you get your copy, check out all the gorgeous designs on Ravelry!
**ATTENTION RENO LOCALS!** We're so excited to announce that we are hosting an in-store book-launch event on Saturday, September 19th, from 1:30 to 5:30 pm. Romi herself will be here to sign books, chat about all things lace, and demonstrate some of the techniques in the book. We'll also have some of her favorite yarns we don't normally carry (many of them featured in the new patterns) for a special pop-up event (ie. Quince and Co!!!)! For more info, and to RSVP, please call (775-827-9276) or e-mail our retail shop. |

| We hope you enjoyed the Knitted Toys feature in our last newsletter - we sure did! But it wouldn't be right if we didn't tell you about something even cuter: Crocheted Toys! You might know them as "amigurumi", but we know them as just plain adorable! Using simple crochet techniques, you can create all sorts of endearing animals and charming creatures to give as toys, or just keep for yourself. |
We've got some books to get you inspired - each one is better than the last! Amigurumi Toy Box has enough patterns to fill any toy box with adorable amigurumi toys: There's everything from little forest dwellers (like birds, foxes and a snake) to mythical creatures like unicorns and a frog prince! Cuteness abounds in Beastly Crochet - besides 23 delightful patterns (such as a garden gnome, a robot blanket and a zombie!), the author even gives tips on how to style your crocheted creatures to maximize the adorable factor!
When choosing your yarn, make sure you pick a sturdy fiber that can stand up to lots of touching and hugging and won't stretch too much - cotton, wool blends, or acrylic yarns are perfect! And many patterns call for worsted weight or heavier to give the toy a solid foundation. Some favorites are Plymouth Worsted Merino Superwash, Cascade Avalon, and Red Heart Soft Solid, just to start. If you're planning on felting your new little friends, make sure to choose a feltable (non-superwash) yarn like Universal Deluxe Worsted - or, just plug in your preferences using our neat Yarn Search Filters! Choosing your tools is easy: a metal hook will slide through tight loops, so choose a slick one like the Addi Swing or Knitter's Pride Aluminum Gold Crochet Hooks. You want to make sure your stitches stay firm and dense, so you may need to go down a hook size or two from what's normally called for to get the right gauge for the project. Just do a few rounds to test out the look and feel of your stitches, and if you're happy with the result, hook away! |

| Rachel's Frozen Upon a Time set (from our Once Upon a Time MKAL last fall) just got even more snuggly: she's created a matching hat! These warm and wonderful sets are available as a kit in Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted, so you can get colorful and cozy at the same time! Each kit includes 3 skeins of yarn and the download code for the pattern, and we have several colorways to choose from. And, so you can get cozy on the cheap, we've made it our September Kit of the Month - so it's 20% off all September long! |

Tosh Short Skeins - Vintage and Prairie!
We've got a secret: we're a few yards short of a skein... but we love it! You can be short-skeined, too: just grab some Madelinetosh Vintage or Prairie Short Skeins and knit up something amazing! The yarn is all first-quality, richly-colored, high-quality merino wool, but the Vintage Short Skeins are just 3 yards short (yep, that's all!) and the Prairie Short Skeins are 100 yards short of a normal hank. Leanne used 3 colors of Vintage Short Skeins to knit up a Tres Tosh Cowl (the new and longer version of Kristen's Uno, Dos, Tres Cowl), a FREE pattern on our site - and it's gorgeous! Rachel's Aurelia Shawl uses 2 Prairie Short Skeins to create a beautiful gradient effect, and Heather's Blueshift Loop is a quick-knitting, one-hank project with an easy lace option - use 2 colors of Prairie Short Skeins for an even more colorful duo!
Muench Yarns by the bag just $10! Now's your chance to stock up on sparkly yarns for a steal of a deal! 10 balls for $10? What's not to like?! Grab a bag or two of Muench Cleo, Diva, Fabu, New Marabu, Oceana, Rockstar, String of Pearls, Tessin, and Verikeri and make something beautiful. Whether your adding bling to a project, or creating an eye-catching top or accessory, you can't go wrong with any of these one-of-a-kind yarns!
JBW Mystery Yarn Grab Bags - 40% off!
The sweetness is in the surprise: 400 grams of Sport/DK/Worsted or Bulky Weight yarn at 40% off retail! We've made it to the end of Make it Laceweight event on Ravelry, and what an event it was! We had dozens of gorgeous entries that ran the gamut from intricate lace shawls and scarves, to cozy double-stranded (and triple-stranded!) projects, and even a beautiful cardigan! As an interesting side note, many participants said they enjoyed crocheting with laceweight more than they did knitting with it - sounds like something new for some of us to try out! However you did it, you all knitted and crocheted your way to sweet success and showed us (and the thousand-plus Ravelers who tuned in to watch your progress) that laceweight yarns equal loved projects - well done, you! And for those of you who want more, check out the Finished Objects thread or take a look at our Laceweight Bundle for favorite projects and yarns! And, be sure to check back on Ravelry to see the winners - they will be announced today! |
