March Lorna's Limited Edition - Craigh na Dun & a new MKAL!
Jimmy Beans Wool Newsletters

Rachel's first Mystery Knit-Along project - and over 400 of you were rewarded with a gorgeous shawl representing the intertwining stories of Jamie and Claire!
MKAL with Unraveled Designs
Now that the second half of the first season is almost upon us, Rachel (aka Unraveled Designs) has worked with Lorna's Laces to create our March LLE Color: Craigh na Dun, named for the magical stones that carry Claire through time!

The gray and purple shades in each gorgeous hank symbolize the ancient, lichen-covered stones, with dabs of blue for the forget-me-not flowers Claire picks.
To go along with this beautiful colorway, Rachel has designed another Mystery Knit-Along project that will start April 4th! You can join the fun on Ravelry, and of course, we'll have kits ready to go with the two skeins of Shepherd Sock you'll need for the project (hint: it's a shawl!), plus a Ravelry download code for the pattern.

As always, that's not all: Spark has created a wonderful set of coordinating stitch markers just for this amazing color. They'll help keep your place in the pattern and sparkle up your knitting at the same time!

New Lorna's Laces Colors for Spring!

Lorna's Ladies are having a tea party

Lorna's has rolled out some new colors just in time for spring, and with them has rolled out the red carpet for some ladies near and dear to all our hearts! Each color is named after moms, grandmas, or super special friends of a Lorna's team member, and there's even one for long-time Jimmy Beans employee (and our resident Mom), Sandy! Go, Sandy, Go! is now a permanent Lorna's colorway available in all your favorite Lorna's yarns, and they are generously donating 10% of the proceeds from Go, Sandy, Go to a charity for cancer awareness and prevention in honor of Sandy's battle with endometrial cancer.
Leanne's Shard made with Princess Donna
The other fantastic gals showcased in this season's selection of Lorna's latest colorways include:
  • Lady Viola - named for Bettie's mom, this bright, energetic colorway matches Viola's vivacious personality perfectly!
  • La Regina - Margret loved this color and picked it to carry her mom's name, Regina. This color also happened to catch the eye of designer Kate Oaks who used it for her Katy Tunic!
  • Ma Ruth - this combo of soft grays and blues with a pop of gold takes its name from Mento's grandmother.
  • Miss Sonia - the sassiest of the bunch, this bold, flashy colorway is named for Melissa Jo's mom, Sonia.
  • Princess Donna - a subtle rainbow of pastels, this colorway fits Daniel's mom to a T! Leanne fell in love with this color the moment it arrived and used it to make Romi's Shard Shawlette (pictured above).
  • Sally Jean - a test knitter and long-time friend of the Lorna's crew, Sally Jean's color is a deep, luscious red that honors a milestone birthday.

We hope you'll be inspired by these new colors to knit something special - for Mother's Day, perhaps, or "just because" for a treasured lady in your life!
Along with the bases you know and love, all of the new colors are available in the newest Lorna's base, Cloudgate, a sumptuous bulky-weight blend of superwash merino wool and nylon with a delicious squishy feel - just like hugging a cloud!

Winter's not over yet (and will always come again!) so there's still time to cast on for a warm and snuggly project like a wear-with-everything cardigan.

And for those of you who are Game of Thrones fans, there may even be something special coming your way in this cozy base when Season 5 premiers in April (wink, wink!) - stay tuned!

Jimmy Beans Wool Newsletters

You already know we're filling our warehouse with Knitter's Pride, and now we're going gaga over the new needles we just got in stock! So you'll love them as much as we do, we've prepared a Needle Narrative to help you get to know each type and its benefits!
Knitter's Pride Platina Needles
Nova Cubics Platina needles are the best of every world: smooth, slick, chrome-plated brass tubes that are light in the hand, a square-barreled ergonomic shape that keeps stitches uniform, and perfectly tapered tips that pick up stitches with ease!

You'll want to replace all your needles with these gems, and now you can - we've got them in Double Points, Single Points, Fixed Circulars, Interchangeable Tips including Special Short Tips for 16" cords, all in a full range of sizes and lengths, plus Interchangeable and Sock Sets!
Knitter's Pride Trendz Needles
You may have heard about Trendz, the brightest needle of the bunch! These durable yet flexible acrylic needles are lightweight and quite pointy, and like the Dreamz series you know and love, each size is a different color so you can spot them with ease while digging through your knitting bag!

We have them in Interchangeable Tips, Single Points, Fixed Circulars, Double Points, and Tunisian and regular Crochet Hooks, so you can stock up on the fun!
Knitter's Pride Marblz Needles
If you love the colorful Trendz needles and something even bolder, look to Marblz! These gorgeous needles are also made of strong acrylic, but multiple colors are blended to make each batch into a special work of art.
Because they're mixed by hand, no two needles have the exact same color pattern, meaning yours will be absolutely unique!

Also available in Interchangeable and Special Tips, Single Points, Fixed Circulars, and Double Points.
Knitter's Pride Bamboo Needles
For ultimate versatility and a warm hand-feel, go with Knitter's Pride Bamboo needles. They're made of high-quality Japanese bamboo and are polished to a silky finish that adds just the right amount of grip to keep even the most slippery stitches on your needles!
Be sure to check out all the types we carry, including Double Points, Interchangeable Tips, Single Points, Fixed Circulars, Interchangeable Sets and Sock Sets as well as Crochet Hooks and Tunisian Crochet Tips!
All of the Interchangeable tips have 24-karat gold plated connectors for smooth gliding over joins and an extra bit of luxury.

Whew! That's a lot of needles, but that's not all - we also have expanded our size and length range in all of your favorite collections like Dreamz, Cubics, Basix, Nova Platina, and Karbonz.
Come on over and wander around in our Needle Nirvana - you'll be glad you did!

How to wear a Howlcat

Alex Tinsley of Dull Roar Designs has taken the knitting world by storm with her ingenious Howlcat pattern! It's an elegantly simple design with a quirky twist: a long tube is knitted in two weights of yarn to make an all-in-one cowl and hat (get it?) that can be worn a multitude of different ways! Laura (a.k.a. Jimmy) snapped a video of Jen demonstrating how easy it is to get four fun fashions out of this great garment! To make it just as easy to start on your own, we've made kits using Malabrigo and Madelinetosh yarns - pick your favorite and get going!
If you've already added a Howlcat or two to your wardrobe and are itching for more Dull Roar Designs, we won't disappoint you: we just stocked up on a bunch of new patterns!

The Rocket Pop and Dragee hats are pure fun - and just as sweet as the confections that inspired them! The Zam Hat will go perfectly with your Chevzam, and the scalloped Varia slouchy hat pattern includes sizes for both children and adults, so everybody in the family can look super stylish! And if you're local and would like to see any of these great projects in person, come on over to the shop and check out the Dull Roar Trunk Show, here through March 12th!

For many of us, the waning of winter is like coming out of hibernation, and all we want to do is cast on for that next project to keep our busy hands moving until we can really get outside and enjoy some warm weather! Lucky for all of us, there's plenty going on to keep us occupied - here's just a sampling of some of the great group projects and new patterns we're working on!
Rowan's first Crochet-Along!
Rowan painted the knitting world in rainbow colors with the Kaffe Fasset Afghan Knit-Along last year, and this year they're back with an equally fun event for crocheters: their very fist Crochet-Along, using Rowan's new Summerlite 4-ply and a gorgeous selection of patterns from Lisa Richardson! Kits for each project - a v-shaped shawl, baby blanket, decorative cushion or rectangular scarf - are available today!
The first clue will be released on March 25th through the Knit Rowan website (please note you will need to register if you haven't already - it's free!). Be sure to check Rowan's Ravelry Group for updates and all of the CAL chatter! Like the KAL, they will also release videos of the designer showing techniques and tips for each project, and there will be a contest with great prizes!
If knitting is your craft, we've got a Knit-Along for you, too - using the incredible Hat Box yarn from Mrs. Crosby! Amanda from Lorna's Laces is running the show to create the adorable and versatile Newsom Cardigan by Bristol Ivy - so chic!

It was specially designed using this delicious yarn, and takes full advantage of the sumptuous merino wool, silk and cashmere to keep your shoulders warm and cozy! We can't wait to cast on for ours, and we've made it super simple to get your supplies for the Newsom Cardigan all in one place! Once you have your yarn, head on over and purchase the pattern on Ravelry and join Amanda's Discussion Thread!
Newsom Cardi
Finished Downton MKAL shawl
Now that the latest season of Downton Abbey is coming to a close, the Edith's Secret Mystery Knit-Along is wrapping up over on Ravelry, and those of you that participated now have a gorgeous striped shawl to wear as you nibble your nails over predictions of what might happen next season.

If you missed out on the mystery, the complete pattern is now available as a download on Ravelry or with one of our perfectly paired MKAL Kits - we still have a few left, so snag one now and knit up a great shawl of your own!
Next up we have some patterns that don't require group participation, but are equally as fun! For a quick and interesting knit that is sure to get a conversation going, check out Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton's Dragon Tale Shawl!

It's knit in two different yarns and colors with a proprietary technique that results in beautiful openwork panels. We've never seen anything like it, but it's sure to be stunning and soft in Fyberspates Scrumptious DK and Vivacious 4ply. Leanne cast on as soon as we got the pattern and is enjoying knitting in the ingenious openwork technique!

Rowan Magazine 57
For even more gorgeous patterns, check out the new Rowan Magazine 57!

This issue is packed with plenty of lightweight and lovely designs meant to show a little skin and celebrate warmer weather. There are knitting and crochet patterns for both women and men, and they're all perfectly on-trend: tribal-inspired colorwork, delicate lace in both shawls and garments, and interesting textural details that will make your wardrobe really stand out! Just take a gander at the Sieci Crocheted Top in Pure Linen - worn over a light tank, it's the perfect spring layering piece!

      New from Koigu!

all the Koigu Fun!

If there's one yarn in the warehouse that makes us jump for joy when we get a new shipment, it's Koigu! We turn to these great merino yarns again and again for their luscious hand-dyed colors and painterly appeal! We've got a new one you'll be excited about, too:

Koigu Sparkle! The geniuses at Koigu took the ever-popular KPPPM yarn and added just a touch of glitter to lend a beautiful twinkle to everything you knit! The overall effect is a subtle shine among the gorgeous hand-dyed hues - we think it would look great in the Astrid Top from Koigu Magazine 2, or how about revamping the classic Churchmouse Ruffle Scarf with some shimmer?
If you love your Koigu in a slightly heavier weight, you'll love American Merino - all the hand-painted goodness of KPPPM in a sport weight, made and dyed in Canada and available exclusively Just at Jimmy's!

In fact, Jimmy herself loves it so much, she commissioned a special poncho/sweater pattern using this scrumptious yarn, and we've made it available as a kit!

And the pattern is free - who wouldn't love that?

Pembroke Shawl in Koigu Bulky
Once you've caroused in the Koigu, head on over to see what Ravelers created for Koigu Make Something You Love event!

If you cast-on something using Koigu after February 14th, post a picture of it in the thread so we can enjoy it, too! If you finish by March 31st, you'll be eligible for some fantastic prizes!

If you need ideas on something to make, we have a few suggestions: how about a Whimsy Cardigan from Koigu Magazine 6?

For little ones, there's the Sprinkle Baby Sweater from Juju's Loops. Or one of our go-tos, the Pembroke Shawl by Andrea Rangel, would look great in Koigu Bulky (pictured to the left)!

Our new Beans' Babies

Last year, we welcomed several new bean sprouts into the JBW flock, so we thought we'd give you a proper introduction! First up we have Kristen's baby girl Olive who was born in July. She loves wearing her mama-made hand knits and is sitting up on her own a lot these days! Pears and avocado are among her new favorite foods.

Charlotte (aka Charlie) is Jenn's little girl who was born in October, and she is super happy and observant these days! She loves sticking her tongue out at you on cue and blowing raspberries.

Lastly, we have Bethany's adorable little guy Sebastian (aka Bash), who was born in early December and looks a lot like his mama. He's just coming out of the newborn stage and is smiling up a storm!

It's so much fun to have so many babies (and future fiber artists!) in the JBW family at the moment. Stay tuned for more updates on them as they grow!

Donate for Beans for Brains at Crowd Rise
You saw from our video in a recent newsletter that our Beans for Brains Scholarship program is back for yet another year! These scholarships provide invaluable financial assistance to aspiring fiber artists who are trying to put themselves through college, and this year, we want to create our most generous endowment to date!
Wouldn't you love to help? Well, you still can! We're using the crowdfunding site Crowd Rise to help us reach this goal, and you can donate in any denomination - 100% of your donation will go directly to the scholarship fund.

We also have Beans for Brains Team Beanie Kits available for purchase, if you'd like to show your support that way and have a fun knitted or crocheted hat to show for it! For every kit sold, Jimmy Beans Wool and Schachenmayr will each donate $1 ($2 total) to Beans for Brains!
