| By the power vested in us by the state of Jimmy Beans Wool and Lorna's Laces Yarn, we hereby sentence you... to a long weekend of binge knitting! This month's Lorna's Laces Limited Edition color is so awesome, it might drive you to criminal acts - ok, so maybe not that, but it will certainly get you excited for the release of the new season of Orange is the New Black on Netflix! The New Black combines smoky gray and deep charcoal with flashes of bright orange that might even have you wishing you were sporting one of those snazzy jumpsuits the ladies on the show wear! Kidding, of course, but it is perfect for breaking the shackles of monochrome monotony and adding something super-special to your stash! |
The show, which follows the adventures of a sassy (and let's face it, a little spoiled) New York public relations specialist who is unexpectedly incarcerated, is a guilty pleasure for many of us at Jimmy Beans, and Rachel (one of our MKAL mavens) had the genius idea to combine both our love of yarn with our adoration of the show: a Binge Mystery Knit-Along! Because the entire season is added to Netflix at once, you can watch all the episodes one right after the other should you choose to do so (not speaking from experience or anything).
| |
Rachel will release clues in quick succession over the weekend of June 12th-14th, so you can binge on knitting as you binge on the show! The Knit-Along will take just one skein of Sportmate, and we have Binge MKAL Kits available that include the Ravelry download code for the clues. | And, because everything's better with sparkle, make sure to pick up some of the June Limited Edition Spark Stitch Markers, created especially to coordinate with the gray and orange of this month's color! Just be sure to hide them before bed checks! |

If you've never tried them before, you might see the term "drop stitches" and think, "What? On purpose?!?!" But we promise it's a skill you'll want to keep in your toolkit for creating interesting and beautiful lace effects in your knitting! And no, it won't cause your project to unravel, as Rachel and Leanne demonstrate in this handy dandy video! If you are thinking about doing the Orange is the New Black Binge MKAL, be sure to check out this video for hints of what's in store! | You may have seen Monika's recent design with Yarn Carnival's Fire Dancer yarn from our Micro-Brewed Series. Inspired by her admiration for legendary explorer Jacques Cousteau and his documentaries exploring the mysteries of the deep, Monika knew as soon as she saw the yarn that she'd have to make something in it! Her pattern, Deep Sea, features drop stitches that mimic slowly undulating waves, and can be made as a fluttery wrap or a lacy shrug - depending on where your own explorations take you! |

| Drumroll, please... take a look at the Halfman's Mantle! Now that the Game of Thrones Mystery Knit-Along is finished and the project has been revealed, we can't wait to show ours off! Kristen put those skeins of squishy, bulky-weight Cloudgate in our April Lorna's Laces Limited Edition color, Casterly Rock, to good use in a caplet-style shoulder cozy full of lace and brimming with vibrant color! |
Our Beans cast on for this one and tailored it to their personal style: Leanne chose another LLE color, Prepare to Dye, while Jeanne stuck with Casterly Rock and couldn't be happier! Kristen knit two - one in Casterly Rock and another in Malabrigo Chunkyin Stone Blue - and now she has one to suit any mood! Even if you missed the mystery, you can still grab a kit for this great cowl, or purchase the complete pattern on Ravelry!

| Just in time for our summer Rowan Retreat, we've stocked up on some new Rowan yarns so you can, too! As usual, Rowan is perfectly on-trend and on-target with what we'll be knitting this summer! Their new Cotton Lustre yarn is a unique blend of cotton, linen, and modal with a tape construction that knits up super-quickly into a light and slightly stretchy (thanks to the modal!) fabric with a subtle sheen. And the Cotton Lustre Collection is packed with patterns that put this great yarn to good use, including the cropped Hinata Cardigan, perfect for wearing over a sundress! The Kiku Top is equally sure to find a place among your wardrobe favorites; wear it with a patterned skirt or some simple capris for a flirty, feminine look! |
New Tetra Cotton was designed with a painter's palette in mind: each strand of this DK-weight, 100% cotton chainette yarn is made up of four well-blended colors that knit up into gorgeous garments with a wonderfully marled appearance. We've already picked our favorites from the Tetra Cotton Collection (believe us, it wasn't easy to choose!): the Rooibos Pullover was a shoo-in, with its classic open rib pattern and versatility (wear it over a tank top, dress, or a swim suit!). We also love the Keemun Vest for a man - he can stay cool and still look classy with some simple cable patterning!

We have a host of reasons why our sweet samples are perfect for summer knitting: they're small and portable, the sampler sets include the pattern for a small project you can knit on-the-go, and they're full of color to keep you inspired all summer long! | For an all-in-one package that has everything you need to get started on a project right away (except your needles, of course!), try one of the Lorna's Little Bites samplers or a Tosh Tea Cakes kit! Each Little Bites sampler includes 12 tiny tastes of 20 yards each of Shepherd Sock, perfect for creating Rachel's Stratigraphy Cowl - and the pattern is included! Of course the Tosh Tea Cakes are just as exciting: each adorable pastry box comes packed with 12 sample-sized cakes of marvelous Madelinetosh yarn! |
The Tosh DK Tea Cakes are 15 yards each, and come with a download code for Rachel's Modicum Hat, which uses all of the colors in the box in a genius and fun colorwork pattern! The Tosh TML Tea Cakes are 20-yards each of Tosh Merino Light, plus a pattern download code for the matching Modicum Mitts! Maybe you have a taste for creating your own patterns, or want to add some color to a project you already have in mind. Our individual samples are perfect for you!
Use them for swatching, colorwork projects, or just to get a feel for a yarn you're interested in before buying a full skein. Take as many nibbles as you want to, but don't get too full to try more!
| And for the yarn lovers you know who are also wine lovers (like our Sandy!), we have Yarn Flights from Vice Yarns! Each flight includes 10 mini skeins of 20 yards each of Vice Paradigm, a deliciously springy, hand-dyed fingering-weight yarn, plus adorable wine charms from Spark (yes, you can also use them as stitch markers!), all poured into a special JBW-logo wine glass! |

If you've tried Lotus Yarns, we know you'll agree that Lotus = Luxury! They've cornered the market on some very special, lavish and lovely fibers that lend an air of sumptuous sophistication to your hand-knits, and we have them in spades!
| You might already be familiar with Lotus Mimi, a deliciously soft 100% mink yarn - yes, mink! The fur is harvested in a mink-friendly shearing process and spun into plush, plump, fingering-weight yarn in gorgeously saturated colors. For the true color junkies out there, we have Mimi Shades, which comes in luminous, tonal self-striping colorways, in addition to the rich, hand-painted hues of Mimi Hand Dyed! They'd look wonderful in a simple, small shawl like the Dull Roar Doublish Shawlette, or use two colors (or a solid and a variegated) together in the Two-Tone Twill Scarf by Churchmouse! Or, if you dare, try knitting this stunning Open Cardigan from Vogue Knitting Magazine! |
To add a bit of indulgence to your warm-weather knitting, try some Autumn Wind Hand Dyed! It's a practical, cool cotton combined with just a touch of cashmere for ultimate softness, in a DK-weight yarn perfect for lightweight knits! And the vibrant, hand-dyed colorways are sure to satisfy those color cravings that come on with warm weather. Use it to knit up a truly unique Top-Down Trapeze Tunic for a special little gal, or a gorgeous Grace Akhrem Aviva Tank for yourself! And the hand-dyed colors would also look amazing in the Lotus Hat, a free pattern on Ravelry!

| We've been in love with the Debbie Bliss Fine Donegal Lacy Shawl since it came out in the Debbie Bliss Fall/Winter '14 Magazine last year - the all-over lace pattern is simple enough to really let the beautiful, tweedy look of the Fine Donegal yarn show through, and it just looks so comfy and cozy! And with the fine merino wool and cashmere content of the yarn, we're sure it will be, so we've made it our Kit of the Month - that way, you can get started on one for when cool weather returns! The kit is 30% (yes, 30%!) off all month long, so choose your favorite color of Fine Donegal and get started - we'll be right there with you! |

Shibui Sale Yarns - from 35% off!
Shibui yarns are the ultimate in luxury, and they don't go on sale often, but when they do we've got to have some! Try Shibui Merino Alpaca for garments and accessories; it's a balanced blend of merino wool and baby alpaca in a dense, springy worsted-weight yarn that comes in muted, natural colors you'll never tire of. The Merge Tank and Curve Tunic are essentials for warm weather, or how about a fun Pom Pom Hat from the Mix Collection? We also have select colors on sale of gorgeous laceweight Shibui Cima for shawls, and merino/silk blend Shibui Staccato - it's so soft and so lovely!
Kollage Wildflower and Pixie Dust Mini - 40% off!
We love Knit Collage for their super-fun, hand-spun yarns, and right now, we've got some gorgeous ones at great deals! Wildflower is spun from strips of beautiful cotton voile fabric from Jaipur, India, that's been printed by hand in an age-old tradition - use it for a super-chunky, fashion-forward cowl or an absolutely unique Pembroke Shawl! And Pixie Dust Mini is just as interesting: a single-ply, roving-style bulky yarn with cocoon-like slubs for extra texture and a sprinkling of sparkles, just like magical pixie dust! It would look awesome in a colorful Mini Bandana or a cute Ruffle Shawl!
Sirdar Raffaella and Summer Stripes DK - 50% off!
Get ahead on your baby shower knitting with these great sale yarns from Sirdar! Rafaella has an interesting, nubbly texture created by wrapping the strand of cotton and acrylic with a fine thread. It's super soft and would look fabulous in baby cardigans and accessories! Summer Stripes DK is just begging to become a fun baby blanket - the cotton/acrylic blend is easy-care and the colors self-stripe into vibrant patterns to stimulate baby's senses!
Plymouth Toria & Sublime Extra Fine Merino Lace - from 30% off!
If you're looking to knit something light and lacy for hot weather, look here! Plymouth Toria will have a beautiful, featherweight garment floating around your shoulders in no time - like the gorgeous Plymouth Lace Shrug! The mohair and nylon content keeps this yarn nice and light so it won't weigh you down. And for an even lighter feel, check out Sublime Extra Fine Merino Lace! Each 100% merino wool ball has a generous 393 yards, so you can make a whole project with just one. Try the Flippy Edge Scarf for a quick and fabulous project!
Muench Oceana and String of Pearls - from 60% off!
Muench doesn't mess around when it comes to novelty yarns - they've got the best in the business! And we've got some of them on sale: Oceana reminds us of an Impressionist painting; the fun flags add texture and the bright mix of colors is sure to add pizzazz to your next novelty scarf! String of Pearls has a more subtle approach, but is equally interesting: tubular cotton is spun with shiny polyester and rayon strands to create a delicate sheen in the fabric. Make the pretty Camisa Pullover and wear it on your next night out!

| Did you make it to our Anzula Trunk Show event in May? We're still reeling from the Anzula Awesomeness we experienced - and we're hungry for more! We were almost tempted to hitch a ride with them to Ohio for TNNA, but we controlled ourselves. Barely! Sabrina and Logan are seasoned travelers, taking Anzula yarns across the country for events, shows, and yarn shop visits for much of the year, and we're thrilled that they included us on their most recent road trip! |
True to the traveling theme, they brought all their fabulous Anzula fibers and garments packed in gorgeous vintage suitcases that we all enjoyed riffling through - we could hardly take it all in! Including several new-to-us yarns we had to get our hot little hands on: the most popular were silky-soft Milky Way (80% Milk Protein, 20% superwash merino), Oasis (70% silk, 30% Camel), and Haiku (70% Superwash Merino, 20% Bamboo, 10% Nylon).
| There was so much to see and touch, Terry had trouble keeping her class in their seats! They all had a great time choosing colors of Anzula Nebula (some chose the scrumptious Anzula Squishy instead!) and matching beads, plus some other Anzula goodies to take home! But once they sat down to work through Terry's Gems on the Beach pattern (soon to be available on Ravelry), they were hooked - in fact, Terry will be offering a repeat of the class on June 27th - call the shop for details! |

Some of you may have noticed an exciting new change to the yarn search feature on our website: attributes!
We've reworked our search page to let you get right down to the knitty gritty (ha!) of what you're looking for: you can now narrow your search by twelve new parameters, including sheen (does it have a soft glow, or will we see it from outer space?), texture (is it actually slubby, or just slightly nubby?), behavior (does it felt?), dye method (only hand-dyes for me, please!), and more! Head on over and try it out!
Let your imagination run wild - what about a merino wool, hand-dyed, hand-spun yarn that's also washable? Let us know what you find! (Hint: it's Malabrigo Rueca!) Or, maybe you're looking to make some quick-drying dishcloths that keep their shape well. For that, you'll want a chainette-construction, machine-washable cotton yarn with a crisp hand-feel, let's say in a DK weight because you have your size 5 needles handy. Well, that's Plymouth Cleo! See how easy that was? We can already tell, this is going to be a game-changer - we hope you're as excited about it as we are!
