You know that when we discover something you all like, we like to give you more of it! When we noticed that the Tailor-made Madelinetosh colors from 2014 were among the best sellers this past year, a yarn-bulb went on over our heads: why not host a limited edition color EVERY month this coming year, inspired by the thing we love more than cloths (and as much as Tosh) - food! The unanimous response was "Yum - and YES"! Introducing Tasty Tosh 2015, with a Just-at-Jimmy's collection of one-of-a-kind monthly colors and best of all, the scrumptious recipes that inspired them!
Each month for all of 2015, we'll release a new color in a selection the most popular Madelinetosh yarns and include the delicious recipe that goes with it. Each release will also be accompanied by an extra-special treat: a soap or mud treatment from Black Rock Mud, in an exclusive scent made just for us! Made with alkaline Illite clay from our Nevada Black Rock Desert, these luxurious products leave your skin feeling silky-soft and transformed.
| Without further ado, on to the January color! First up is Olivia's carefully guarded (until now!) chili recipe, perfect for that upcoming Super Bowl Party! The hand-dyers at Madelinetosh have captured the deep, rich reds and browns of the dish perfectly with Rojo Texas Chili - it's absolutely mouthwatering! Just make sure you have a cool drink on hand when you start knitting up this spicy color! It would look amazing in the Poet Society Tam; no matter your hair color, this trendy topper using Tosh Vintage in this hot new hue is sure to shoot fireworks! |

It's Madelinetosh Madness in the warehouse! The Beans are flitting around in a tizzy over all the gorgeousness to be seen everywhere, not least of which is due to the huge shipment of Prairie and Chunky Short Skeins we just received! Now, these are not "onesies" like you might be used to: the dye job on these is absolute first-quality. However, the hanks themselves came out a few yards too short, and that means we can trim the price as well! With dozens and dozens of your favorite hand-dyed Madelinetosh colorways to choose from, we're sure you'll agree that they can send us short skeins anytime! But therein lies the rub: these special skeins are available in finite quantity, and once they're gone, they're gone - so grab them while you can!
| |
*Note: as of right now, we've only received Tosh Chunky Short Skeins in colors with names starting with A through D and Prairie in A through E, the other colors listed on our website are on their way. You can place a pre-order for these colors at any time and we'll ship them as soon as they arrive!

We can already tell it's going to be a Berroco kind of season - if the new yarns we just received are any indication! Each new skein we touch is just begging to get on the needles and create clothing and accessories for those of us who are already wishing for warmer weather! First up is Fiora, a delicious DK-weight blend of Cotton and Viscose, with just a touch of Alpaca, Nylon, and Wool. Now you might be thinking, what's with all those fibers? Well, think of it this way: your project benefits from all the great qualities of each component! This yarn has it all: drape, sheen, lightweight warmth, softness, and breathability, all in a richly-hued color palette. Just don't forget the matching Fiora Pattern Book - you wouldn't want to miss out on these great garments and accessories!
| Berroco Indigo is yet another fabulous recycled-fiber yarn for the favorites list: although it's worsted weight, the light blend of cotton and recycled denim fibers is ideal for effortless garments with durability and a subtly tweedy texture. Choose one of the gorgeous muted hues, pick up a copy of the accompanying Berroco Indigo Pattern Book, and get started on a fantastic new sweater or shawl! |
Spring wouldn't be spring without a bit of whimsy, and these two new chainette-construction yarns have just that! Mixer is aptly named: it blends a cotton base with ribbons of lightweight synthetic fibers resulting in an ensemble of thick and thin, smooth and matte textures with silky sheen - and the colors are absolutely luminous! The patterns in the Mixer collection certainly take advantage of this yarn's gorgeous drape. But Espresso is not to be outdone: the bright, fun colors and airy construction give this special yarn an irresistible appeal! It's technically bulky weight, but the lightness of the fibers means it will sit weightlessly on your skin, keeping you cool and chic at the same time. It's perfect for a sweet shrug or breezy tank - just take a look at the beautiful patterns that go with it!

Jenny's Windsor Warmer | Check out this beautiful cowl Jenny knit! Intrigued by the concept of a buttoned cowl that can also be worn unbuttoned as a scarf, Jenny cast on for the Windsor Warmer from New England Knits by Cecily Glowik MacDonald and Melissa LaBarre. We no longer carry the book, but you can find the patterns on Ravelry. Jenny used Classic Elite Majestic Tweed, a heavier weight yarn than the pattern called for, so she went up a needle size and shortened the length a bit. We no longer carry this yarn, but the pattern would work with any DK weight - we suggest Fibre Company Acadia for a similar fiber content and a tweedy look! |
Sandy's Koigu Bulky Pembroke Shawl | Sandy just can't get enough of the Pembroke Shawl by Andrea Rangel Knits! This is her third one, in bright and colorful Koigu Bulky. Thanks to Leanne for being our model... though she threatened to keep the shawl as payment! It's a quick and easy lace pattern and the project just flies by with this bulky yarn. Be sure to show us your take on this great pattern by sharing on our Facebook or Ravelry pages. |
Jeanne's Rowan Fine Art Aran Ribbed Cowl | Jeanne couldn't wait to cast on with her new skein of delicious Rowan Fine Art Aran! She made up a simple little pattern to help her use up the entire skein: once you measure your gauge, cast on enough stitches to make a 24" circle, but make sure the number is divisible by 8 (for example, if you get 4 stitches to the inch, cast on 96. At 4.5 stitches to the inch, cast on 112). Then, knit in 4x4 rib (knit 4, purl 4) until your yarn is almost used up - be sure to leave enough to bind off! Cast off the stitches loosely, and you're done! This makes a snug and cozy neckwarmer. |
Jenny's Madelinetosh Tosh DK Verdure Mitts | Jenny loves both Madelinetosh yarn and Botanical Knits patterns, so she couldn't wait to get these mitts from the second Botanical Knits book on her needles! She says they are perfect for fall and a nature-loving knitter like herself! They'd also make a beautiful gift, as they use just one skein! She used a size US 6 needle and the Saffron colorway. Just gorgeous! |
Jeanne's Stitch Mountain Nordic Hat | Jeanne knit up this adorable two-color intarsia Nordic Hat from the Stitch Mountain collection. It's warm and cozy in Rowan Lima and would look great on both guys and gals! She used two balls of the main red color and 1 of the beige contrasting color to complete the hat. Remember that the alpaca in the yarn can cause it to stretch when wet, so be sure to hand wash gently and dry flat. If you'd like to buy the hat as a kit, check out the Nordic Hat Kit! |
