| Why is brunch always associated with Mother's Day? Is it because our moms always cooked us breakfast, and now we want to do the same to honor them? We think so - and we think we have the perfect dish to serve at your special Mother's Day Brunch: Asparagus Camembert Bread Pudding! |
According to Olivia, who serves this as a yearly tradition, this delicious concoction is not only a cinch to make, it's also full of beautiful color for the brunch table - and that's why it was a perfect inspiration for this month's Tasty Tosh installment: the appealing greens, toasty golden browns, and creamy whites will make your mouth water!
To go along with this scrumptious colorway, the ladies at Black Rock Mud have created a unique gift all about MOM - Milk, Oatmeal, and Mud Soap! This luscious soap is the ideal complement to April's Tasty Tosh Mother's Day theme, using natural illite clay from the Nevada Black Rock Desert!
The high mineral content of this unique, buttery-rich mud leaves skin feeling soft, silky, and optimally moisturized. It's the perfect way to pamper Mom this year!
| If you're looking for something special to knit up in this yummy color, try Kristen's Tru Love Bites cowl - it uses just one skein of luxurious Pashmina yarn, and we'll include the pattern download code for free with the purchase of Pashmina in this delectable hue! (Or, if you'd rather knit it in another color, you can snag the pattern on Ravelry for just $1 until the end of the month!) |
Or, if you love lace, the Starshower Cowl by The Yarniad would look gorgeous in the newest Tosh base, Twist Light! Pick your pleasure and get started! |

As if we needed one more reason to go crazy for Madelinetosh yarn this month: we've got a warehouse full of new Tosh colors! Knitters in the know secretly wink at one another when they hear that Madelinetosh is discontinuing a color, because we know that means new colors are on the way! And this run of new shades does not disappoint; in fact, we can't decide which our favorite is - there are eighteen to choose from!
| If you love rich, warm colors (and who doesn't?!?), take a look at Daffodil, Geode, Heartbeat, Kilim, Resin, and Woodstock. So vibrant! If you're more drawn to super-saturated, cool colors, you'll love Deep, Fir Wreath, Odyssey, Plunge, and Raspberry Cordial. Of course they've covered the neutrals well, too - and we can just imagine some of these in gorgeous sweaters that will become wardrobe staples: Fallen Cloud, Great Grey Owl, Kitten, Leopard, Moonglow, Pecan Hull, and Silver Leaf! |
Best of all, we have all of these new colors, plus about 50 more regular Tosh colors in the newest Tosh yarn, Twist Light! Now, this is something to get excited about: it's a superwash merino blended with a touch of nylon for smoothness and durability, making it just right for long-lasting socks, pill-resistant accessories, light and airy shawls, and more! The added nylon content causes the yarn to take the dyes differently for a slightly more muted, subdued look, but the gorgeous, hand-dyed tonal variations still take center stage! First on our project list for this irresistible yarn is Leanne's newest design in Tunisian crochet: the Honey Bee Cowl! She created this lovely buttoned cowl in the February Tasty Tosh Color, Sausage, Chard, and Lemon Lasagna, and it looks delectable - and, it takes just one skein! Pick up a Honey Bee Cowl Kit and then download the pattern for free from her Ravelry store!
To give you an idea of how Twist Light compares to the other Tosh fingering-weight yarns, we've prepared a handy Tosh Tutorial! Don't forget to take notes (wink!)!
| Twist Light
Content: 75% machine-washable merino wool, 25% nylon
Yardage/Gauge Info: 420 yards (more than enough for 1 pair size women's large socks), 27-32 sts/4 inches on size US 1-2 needle
Properties: Plied with a springy twist; soft and smooth; durable against rubbing (resists pilling and wearing away, so it's good for socks, mittens, and other accessories that get harder wear)
Project Suggestions: Andrea Rangel Clochan Socks, Olgajazzy Tabi Mittens, Leanne's Honey Bee Cowl
|
| Tosh Sock
Content: 100% machine-washable merino wool
Yardage/Gauge Info: 395 yards (enough for 1 pair of women's size large socks), 27-32 sts/4 inches on size US 1-2 needles
Properties: Plied with a medium twist; soft and slightly springy; the wool gets softer and fuzzier with blocking and use; wool "memory" means it holds lace patterns well
Project Suggestions: Afterthought Socks, Ripple Cowl, Romi Hill's Sakaki Shawl
|
| Tosh Merino Light
Content: 100% machine-washable merino wool
Yardage/Gauge Info: 420 yards, 27-32 sts/4 inches on size US 1-2 needles
Properties: Single-ply yarn with loose twist; slightly thick-and-thin texture; very soft and slightly fuzzy; knits up into warm but light fabric great for shawls and light garments
Project Suggestions: Romi Hill's Asterope Shawl, Olga's Vest, Madelinetosh Hay Cardigan
|
| Dandelion
Content: 90% machine-washable merino wool, 10% fine linen
Yardage/Gauge Info: 325 yards, 27-32 sts/4 inches on size US 1-2 needles
Properties: Single-ply yarn with slightly thick-and-thin texture; linen takes dye differently than the wool, giving it a faintly heathered appearance; the linen "lightens" the wool, making it great for warmer-weather projects, and softens with wash and wear
Project Suggestions: Cocoknits Gisela, Churchmouse Diagonal Lace Scarf and Wrap, Dull Roar Doublish Shawlette

We like to think of Tunisian Crochet as a friendly handshake between knitting and crochet because it uses elements of each craft, making it a perfect transition to learn some new skills! Our Knitter's Pride extravaganza wouldn't be complete without detailing their excellent specialty crochet hooks, including Afghan and Tunisian crochet hooks!
Just one look at these awesome tools will have you wanting to get started on a new project, or start learning one of these fun techniques - our Leanne was so inspired, she hooked up a beautiful Tunisian Crochet Lemon Lasagna Cowl to show off her new skills! Here's a little Crochet-Hook Crib Sheet to get you started!
| The Aluminum Afghan Hooks are exactly what you need to make a gorgeous, textured Afghan in Tunisian Crochet. Each 12-inch-long hook is lightweight, so even when it's holding multiple stitches for Tunisian techniques, it won't weigh you down! The end is tapered to slip through loops easily, and there's a firm stopper on the back end so your stitches won't slide off. They come in sizes A (2.0 mm), 2.5 mm, 3.0 mm, E (3.5 mm), G (4.0 mm), US 7 (4.5 mm), and H (5.0 mm). |
| The Bamboo Tunisian Crochet Hooks provide an ingenious way to do Tunisian crochet: much like interchangeable needle tips, they attach to any length of Knitter's Pride Gold Cords and with a stopper on the other end of the cord, give you plenty of room to hold your loops! The smooth bamboo is light and warm and will hold onto slippery yarns better than metal. These hooks come in sizes 3.0 mm through US L (8.0 mm), plus a special Tunisian Crochet Set that includes eight popular hook sizes, four cords, eight end caps, a set of cord connectors, and four cord keys, all in a handy case! |
| The Dreamz Tunisian Crochet Hooks are similar to the Bamboo Tunisian Hooks, but made from the silky-smooth Symfonie wood and color-coded according to size for ease of finding the right hook! They're used with the regular Knitter's Pride Cords, and come in sizes US E (3.5 mm) all the way up to 12.0 mm! |
There's also a beautiful Tunisian Crochet Set available, featuring eight sizes of crochet hooks, four cords, eight end caps and four cord keys packed in a clear vinyl pouch.
| The Trendz line has us covered on every front with two types of hooks available, both featuring the smooth, brightly-colored, lightweight acrylic shaft of Trendz needles! Use Trendz Afghan Hooks for traditional Tunisian Crochet. They're 12 inches long and come in sizes US H (5.0 mm) through 12.0 mm (like the Dreamz, each size is a different color) and have a stopper on one end to hold your stitches on the hook for regular Tunisian Crochet. |
| Trendz Double Ended Crochet Hooks are super special: they're for doing Tunisian crochet with two colors and/or working projects in the round! They're also 12 inches long, and come in sizes US H (5.0 mm) through 12.0 mm. The two crochet hooks at either end of the shaft, when used with two balls of yarn, allow you to create hats, cowls and more in the round!
Leanne sure had fun playing with two-sided fabrics, as she demonstrates in this video.

Each bouquet comes with all the yarn she'll need, perched on decorative needle "stems", plus a single-use Soak Wash packet for soaking and blocking her shawl once it's knit up! All she'll need are her size US 8-24" circular needles and she'll be knitting in no time! |
The Rowan Kidsilk Haze Bouquet is another great choice for Mother's Day: three balls of Rowan Kidsilk Haze knit up into a beautiful, light Color Block Wrap by Jan Hurwitz in three coordinating colors - super stylish and super easy! It will be the wrap Mom grabs time and again to keep her shoulders warm and chic, especially after she soaks it using the included Soak Wash packet (it's like flower food for keeping yarn fresh!)! She'll just need size US 7 circular needles to get her started.
| For the super-trendy Mama, choose a Rowan Thick 'n' Thin Bouquet! It features 2 balls of Rowan Thick 'n' Thin yarn, a pair of size 17 Knitter's Pride Basix Needles (the required size for the accompanying project!), a single-use Soak Wash packet, and a link to the Satellite Cowl by Rowan's talented design team. It's everything she needs to make a thick and chunky, very hot-right-now neckwarmer to impress all her friends! |

| Leanne's Shard Shawlette When Romi Hill released the Shard Shawlette to accompany the February '15 Lorna's Limited Edition Color - Dark Crystal, we knew we had a hit pattern on our hands! Leanne loved the design so much, she had to cast on right away. A new color called Princess Donna was calling her name, so she cast on in this delicious pastel shade in Lorna's Laces Solemate for a pretty knit that will go with just about anything.
|
The nature of the Shard design calls for at least one color repeat in the yarn to measure 12" so that the little short row knit "shards" in the design are all one color. We just love the subtle result in this colorway!
Get the kit to knit your own Shard shawl in our kit department.
| Jenny's Henrietta Hat Jenny has wanted to knit with HiKoo Kenzie ever since we started carrying it a couple of years ago. Recently she found the perfect project for it -- Kelbourne Woolen's Henrietta Hat (for which the Fibre Company's Knightsbridge yarn was originally used). We think it's a perfect fit too, and love how the pretty green Kale color makes the cables pop perfectly! |
| Laura's Color Blocked Bias Wrap Laura was so excited about her latest knitting accomplishment because it's the first project (besides a hat) that she has knit in the 4+ years since Huck was born! This gorgeous wrap is knit in Classic Elite's MountainTop Chalet yarn-- a squishy blend of baby alpaca and bamboo in a range of all natural color blends. This wrap takes 6 skeins, and is a quick knit on large needles. |
| Monika's Tribe Top Monika crocheted this top out of Rowan Panama using the free Tribe pattern from the Rowan Website. The result is a cute bohemian top that can be layered over tanks or long sleeves and is easy to dress up or down with jeans or a nice skirt! Here is what Monika had to say about the project:
I would technically assign this pattern an intermediate status, but working with Panama with such a small hook made it quite fiddly, so work-wise, it's an advanced. But worth it - can't wait for it to get warm enough to wear it!
We love how this top turned out! Nice work Monika!

| Chris's Slipping Away Scarf This fun stripy scarf uses fingering weight yarn making it a great weight for multi-season wear! Designed by Chris, one of our JBW team members, this scarf features short rows and an I-cord border for a unique finished look. Here is what Chris has to say about his design:
|
Slipping Away is a comfy scarf knit with fingering weight yarn, making it a perfect accessory anytime of the year. It is constructed in three colors, mainly striped and decorated with perfectly organized slip stitches and several short rows to give the piece a gentle curve. An i-cord border finishes up the scarf for an extra color pop. While created on fingering yarn originally, this design can be knit on any yarn, so enjoy!
You can purchase your own copy of Slipping Away in Chris's Ravelry store! |
