We LOVED our "Go Ahead, Make Something Malabrigo" event last month, and turns out you all did, too! One of the things we learned was that you also love Malabrigo Worsted Merino yarn - it's a universal favorite! And no wonder: this squishy, soft, single-ply in amazing kettle-dyed colors feels great in the hand and lends itself to a huge variety of projects. From warm accessories to home decor crafts, you can't go wrong with Merino Worsted.... It is also a beautiful option for felting! Given our mutual admiration for this amazing yarn, we know you'll be excited about the new Malabrigo Worsted Samples we've whipped up. They're 15 yards each and we'll have them available in every color of the vast Malabrigo rainbow! Ideal for swatching, testing colors, colorwork projects, or just trying out the yarn if you haven't already, each sample is wound up into a sweet little yarn cake and individually packaged with the yarn and color information - order one or one hundred, we'll be ready! |

Did you know that Zara, the luxurious extra fine merino yarn from Filatura di Crosa, has been around for a quarter of a century?! That's right! This sweater-knitting staple has withstood the test of time, and is celebrating its 25th anniversary. While Zara started out as a versatile DK weight yarn in a rainbow of bright, solid hues, Filatura di Crosa knew they had something special and has expanded the line to include sport-weight Zarina, chunkier Zara Plus and Zara 14, and the colorful Zara Print... Not to mention the softly marled Zara Chine. There's even Zara Fur, as well as Hand Dyed Zara in the original DK, Fine, and Bulky, the three of which are part of TSC's collaboration with Artyarns. We're not kidding when we say that for any and every project, there is a Zara! If you don't have project in mind, just take a look at the "West-Coast Style" photo shoot we did earlier this year with some of our favorite Zara designs! |

Our preference for the Zara family of yarns rests solidly on its great foundation: deliciously soft, superfine merino wool that's machine-washable, with a smooth and springy hand in a range of classic colors that appeal to every eye. But don't just take our word for it - we talked to some of the designing elite to find out why they enjoy knitting with Zara!
For me, Zara is a knitter's/crocheter's best friend. It's a loyal yarn with amazing stitch definition, tons of colors, and a slick, buttery feel as you're working with it. It's been one of my staple yarns for years now, whether I'm swatching or designing. It's one of those things that should be in a roadside survival kit. Blanket, extra jugs of clean water, candles, flares, and Zara. - John Brinegar
Zara showcases stitch patterns very well and has a great elasticity. A well-designed yarn and a delight to work with!! - Cornelia Hamilton
I have been using Zara Yarns for 20 years [...] and have made numerous designs in this yarn. It is my favorite yarn to use because it is not only high quality, soft, pleasant to use, but also has a wide range of beautiful colors. Zara yarn can be used from anything from baby hats and blankets to elegant adult designs. After 25 years, it still remains the most popular yarn for knitters. - Irina Poludnenko

Jeanne's Chemo Cozy for Sandy | Jeanne designed and created this special cowl (that can also be a hat when the drawstring is cinched) with love for our Sandy as she journeys through chemo. She used the über-soft Lorna's Laces Honor in 'Go Sandy Go' to create this comfy and cozy project. Proceeds of the pattern sales on Ravelry will go to the SD Ireland foundation to raise funds for cancer research. |
Gus's Woven Bated Breath Scarf | Gus is at it again! His speed and talent amaze us all, and he says he loves to keep creating!! This beautiful scarf is woven with Lorna's Laces Haymarket in Bated Breath (a Limited Edition color that is now sold out, but the Beverly colorway is a beautiful alternative!) and Cascade Pure Alpaca. Gus keeps saying these scarves are super easy and quick to do, which has given one or two of us here at JBW the itch to start weaving! |
Leslie's Saint Stephen Hat | Leslie knit this adorable striped beret in Fresco by Classic Elite Yarns. While she enjoyed knitting up this simple striped version, she is very excited to work on the colorwork version available in this design! The pattern is found in the Cathedral booklet from Classic Elite, and instructions are included for both the striped and stranded colorwork versions. |
Penne's Skirt | Bethany used her creative genius to design this pattern for her little Penne! She used Madelinetosh Vintage yarn in the limited edition Technicolor Dreamcoat color and cast on enough stitches to fit around Penne's hip circumference. She knit straight until it was the length she wanted, and then she added a cute ruffle and a drawstring. This adorable skirt is perfect for a toddler to wear over a pair of leggings, and it only took one hank of yarn! |
Jenny's Bray Cap | Jenny recently knit up the Bray Cap by Jared Flood for a warm winter hat! She knit this cozy head warmer with cables in a Swans Island Yarns Worsted Onesie for a squishy soft, one-of-a-kind hat! The pattern is available as a download on Ravelry, or as part of the Brooklyn Tweed Fall 2013 collection. |
