So... what do you get when you cross one brave lady, a talented hair dresser, a super talented yarn dyer, a rainbow, and... a unicorn? Answer: Technicolor Dreamcoat!! As you can see, this color was inspired by an instagram photo that Amy (the owner of Tosh) posted a couple of months ago (her handle is "madelinetosh", ours is "jimmybeanswool" - if you're on instagram, please join us!). I couldn't help but ask if she could turn that photo into our next Tailor Made Tosh custom color. Boy, did she deliver! Complete with bright, crazy colors from all across the map, this color is "Rainbowtastic" (as Monika would say) in every way. Not only that, but this color is so unique that there are many different-looking dye batches within each Madelinetosh weight. Each batch has varied tonal leanings, so your skeins will be truly unique and one-of-a-kind! Never again to be seen on our shelves (or anyone else's), this color is available in all of your favorite Tosh bases (or even a gorgeous bouquet!). Have fun! Need some accessories to match?! We thought you might... bitten by the [techni]color bug herself, Jeanne sewed up some project bags using fabrics designed by the King of Color, Kaffe Fassett! As you probably know, Kaffe is known for his amazingly colorful designs - and therefore seemed like a natural match for the Technicolor Dreamcoat. And lastly, we have one more extra-special exclusive treat! Introducing... Spark Stitch Markers: the Tailor-made Tosh Editions! Leticia at Spark recently contacted us and asked if she could send some samples over for us to include with all of our Downton Abbey Mystery KAL Honor orders. Of course, when we saw these dangly delights in person, we were hooked! She is now creating a special limited edition set to color-coordinate with each Tailor Made Tosh colorway, starting with Technicolor Dreamcoat! She's also created an exclusive JBW set inspired by our color wheel logo, which we hope to have on hand forever. We are so excited to welcome Spark Stitch Markers to the JBW family, and hope you'll love them as much as we do!

 | Not a fan of variegated colors, but still want to have rainbow-tastic fun?! Our newest samplers, named Pickled Pure Wool, are a great way to try a range of colors in the new, ridiculously popular Rowan Pure Wool Worsted (note: we talk more about this yarn below...). Available in four different color palettes - and containing four different pickle recipes - we tried to create something for every palate : "Dill" (Brights), "Mustard" (Jewels), "Sweet" (Pale Tones), and a "Bread & Butter" (Neutrals) option. What do you think?! |
Each sampler set:
- Contains 12 mini-balls of Rowan Pure Wool Worsted.
- Comes packaged in a Mason Jar (perfect for canning... pickles!).
- Has a link to download the Rainbowtastic Fingerless Mitts from Kristen Ashbaugh Helmreich for free. (Shown in the Brights.)
- AND includes several homemade pickle recipes (from our own recipe boxes!).
This adorable sampler set is so much fun, no one would blame you if you got one in every flavor! | |

Speaking of Rowan... the new stuff for Spring is here!
First up is Silkystones, a blend of tussah silk and linen. Silkystones has amazing drape and transforms into absolutely stunning summer garments, some of which can be found in the Silkystones Collection - such as the Cascade top, Terrace dress, or Trellis crocheted top. Each one is more beautiful than the last! Next up is Pure Linen, which takes 100% linen yarn to the next level! This single ply linen is actually a heavy worsted weight, which gives your knitted garments some heft without adding a lot of weight or warmth. Once washed, this linen has a drape to it that cannot be beat. Check out the designs in the Rowan Pure Linen Collection, like the lovely St. Kilda lace tunic sweater (Kristen's favorite!), the Coogee twisted cropped cardigan and the Mermaid poncho - this one makes a great beach cover-up!
Last, but surely not least, is the aforementioned Pure Wool Worsted, the newest addition to Rowan's Pure Wool line! This 100% machine washable yarn comes in tons of lovely shades (as seen in the Rowan Pure Wool Pickle Samplers) and affords endless possibilities for creativity. Check out the designs in the Rowan Pure Wool Collection, such as the Alba sweater or the Morna long cardigan. We also love Pure Wool Worsted's great potential for men's items, like the Tavish men's hooded sweater or the Harald men's vest. With its soft feel and ultimate practicality, Rowan Pure Wool Worsted is sure to become a new stash staple!

We are so thrilled to be carrying Freia Fine Handpaint Yarns... we have no words! Our relationship with Freia's owner Tina goes waaaaaay back, almost to the beginning of JBW itself! Laura (Jimmy) first started carrying Tina's products back in 2003 when she was just starting out as KnitWhits, designing patterns and creating unique kits. JBW was also a brand new business at that time, and Laura and Tina immediately bonded over learning the ins and outs of the yarn industry. It's created a friendship that has lasted over the years. When Tina began dyeing her own line of yarns a few years ago, we couldn't wait for the day when we could carry it in our shop! That time has finally come, which is why we are delighted to introduce you to Ombre Sport and Ombre Lace! Ombre Sport is a squishy and soft 100% wool yarn that has 217 yards per ball. Ombre Lace is also 100% wool and boasts a whopping 645 yards per ball! All of the Freia yarns come wound into cute little yarn cakes, which are perfect for displaying the stunning colors in each colorway! You are sure to fall in love with each of the scintillatingly vibrant color combos Freia Fine Handpaints has to offer. Also, be sure to check out some of the gorgeous KnitWhits patterns that complement this yarn perfectly, like the Sonoma Shawl, the Undine Cowl, or the Greensleeves shrug! |

Good deals on Noro yarns are always exciting, which is why we were thrilled to receive the discontinued Mossa yarn in stock at such a great price! Mossa is fun and textural, with a mossy appearance reminiscent of a boucle, due to its fuzzy and closely coiled fibers. A bulky weight wool-blend with mohair and silk, Mossa is both soft and luxurious, making it an ideal choice for quick but uniquely textured garments and accessories where the yarn does all of the hard work for you!
Plymouth Sin City & Sinsation: Now 60% Off!
For velvety soft projects that have a lot of shimmer and shine, check out the Plymouth Sin City and Sinsation yarns! Kristen's Freia Fibers Baby Hat | Kristen has been in love with Freia Fibers since she first saw them at a knitting event years ago, and over the years has added to her stash collection bit by bit. It's so exciting that we now carry two of the Freia yarns here at JBW! This particular yarn is one we don't carry, it's from the Flux line and is a worsted weight. One skein easily made this simple baby hat on US size 8 needles. The pattern is one that Kristen just made up as she went, and may publish at some point. In the meantime, you can easily knit something similar by modifying a basic beanie pattern and making the decreases more slowly. |
Rachel's Beaded Arcadia Shawl | Rachel fell in love with just about every design in the book Sock Report when it came out last year, but she finally cast on recently for her first project, Arcadia! She used Malabrigo Sock and adjusted the pattern slightly to work with a little less yardage. Not only that, but she strategically added beads throughout to make her project truly unique! We just love how this shawlette turned out - it is just stunning in person! |
Jenny's Springtime Bandit | Jenny had been wanting to knit this pattern for quite some time, and finally broke down and splurged on the lovely Fibre Company Terra yarn. The Springtime Bandit Pattern by Kate Gagnon Osborn is free from the Fibre Company website and is a fast and easy knit. The lace pattern is quite intuitive, making it a great first lace project! Jenny says she wishes she had made hers a little bigger, but right now it is the perfect size for wearing around her neck on cold days. Beautiful work, Jenny! |
Kristen's Noro Zuzu's Petals Cowl | Kristen wanted to squeeze in one last quick knit for herself before she commenced her baby knitting extravaganza, so she grabbed a ball of the new Noro Taiyo Sport and got to work knitting Zuzu's Petals by Carina Spencer, which can be purchased as a PDF on Ravelry. This design is a pretty quick knit that just took about two thirds of the ball of Taiyo sport. The project was completed in about a weekend of knitting on and off. In fact, it took more time to block it than it did to knit it! She knit the pattern exactly to specifications for the Sport weight gauge, and it turned out beautifully. Nice one, Kristen! |
Monika's Crocheted Cascade Shawl | Monika made this gorgeous crocheted shawl as a holiday gift, and we were able to snap some photos before she sent it off to its recipient! This lovely shawl is actually a free pattern by Cascade Yarns, called the Alpine Shawl. It uses 4 skeins of Cascade Ultra Pima yarn. Monika says this was a pretty quick project and that it was a lot of fun because of the interesting stitch patterns. We love it! Nice job, Monika! |
Sandy's Noro Shiraito Slouchy Beret | Sandy saw this lovely hat in the Fall/Winter '13 issue of Noro Magazine and couldn't wait to knit it! The project took just one skein of Noro Shiraito and one ball of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino (for the size Small.) The resulting hat is so soft, she never wants to take it off! As soon as everyone else at the shop saw it, they of course wanted to steal away with it as well! The corrugated ribbing is just lovely, and the way that the Shiraito stripes throughout makes each hat completely unique. So beautiful! Go Sandy!
