This month's LLE color, Sookie's Last Stand, comes to you by popular customer request! Over the last few years we have been asked to do a "True Blood"-themed Lorna's Laces Limited Edition color, but we've never been able to hit the timing quite right with the TV show's air dates. Since this month marks the beginning of the final season of this popular series, we figured we'd better give the people what they want!
 | Kristen designed this color based off of a gorgeous image of the cast she saw online, featuring the main characters sitting in a shadowy forest (presumably somewhere near Bon Temps, LA) with shades of purples and blues all around. Not seemingly very vampire-ish given the premise of the show, but pretty nonetheless, and a lovely way to honor the ending of such an epic series. |
In tandem with the colorway, Sookie's Last Stand, Kristen also created the Tru Love Bites Cowl, a fun summer-weight design (you know, to help cover up those bite marks) using just one skein of Lorna's Laces Sportmate. For the entire month of June, she is offering this pattern on Ravelry at a special promotional price to celebrate the final epic season of True Blood!
Sookie's Last Stand is available in all of your favorite Lorna's Laces yarns shown below, as well as stunning yarn and fabric bouquets! |

Take your knitting on an unforgettable journey with Mrs. Crosby yarns! Mrs. Crosby is a new line of hand-dyed yarn from the makers of Lorna's Laces that seeks to add a spirit of adventure to the fiber arts, conjuring up images of a well-appointed lady bursting with personality and sass. Our very own Leanne was so taken with Mrs. Crosby's vivacious nature that she invited her to come along on her recent trip to Europe (Mrs. Crosby never turns down an opportunity for international travel!). She has recounted their adventures together over on our blog for your enjoyment!
Mrs. Crosby comes in a variety of yarn bases, so let's be proper ladies (and gents) and make some introductions. Satchel is an absolute dream of a fingering-weight yarn. A hearty single-ply of scrumptiously soft superwash merino, this yarn gives you a truly endless range of possibilities from shawls to cardigans. Another member of Mrs. Crosby's entourage is Train Case, a plied fingering weight spun in a unique blend of superwash merino, Outlast viscose, and nylon, which makes for a superb sock yarn!
An ideal companion for when you're traveling in style, Hat Box is a luxurious sport weight yarn that adds silk and cashmere to its superwash wool base for an extra drop of hand-dyed decadence in your garments and accessories. If you're looking for a slightly thicker yarn, Mrs. Crosby offers Carpet Bag, a lustrous DK that combines superwash merino spun with a splash of silk to create a single-ply yarn characterized by its silky smooth texture and elegant drape. Last but certainly not least, Steamer Trunk is a highly twisted worsted-weight made from 100% superwash merino that has amazing stitch definition and highlights cable work beautifully. Regardless of the base you choose, Mrs. Crosby has an exquisite palette of sophisticated, semi-solid hues bursting with vivid color. Once you invite Mrs. Crosby into your life, your knitting will never be the same! |

We are so pleased to introduce Vice yarns to the JBW family! When Laura visited Hill Country Weavers back in February, she met Lizzy, head dye-mistress and owner of Vice yarns. They hit it off instantly and Laura couldn't help but fall in love with their collection of bright and spunky hand-dyes, leading us to give into temptation and ultimately putting Vice on our shelves. We now have five awesome ways (plus a sampler!) for you to indulge in your favorite Vice here at the shop!
First up we have the "Blurred Lines" Sock Sets and Fingering weight yarn! The " Sock Set comes with two 50g balls of Blurred Lines Fingering, which eliminates the work (and weaving in ends) that often comes with knitting stripes, and also allows you to create two perfectly matched socks! Try it out with Knitting Pure and Simple's Beginner's Lightweight Socks pattern. The Blurred Lines Fingering is 100 grams of self-striping fun that would look great knit up as Stephen West's Little Colonnade Shawl. Sport-weight Chubbie features a mixture of variegated brights and solids that would make for a snazzy pair of Oak Grove Mitts by Never Not Knitting. Paradigm, a fingering weight in similar colors to Chubbie, is a great choice for Stephen West's Akimbo Shawl. If you are the adventuous sort, you can also pair the Paradigm and Blurred Lines Fingering to make the gorgeous Xena Cowl by Christina Wilkins, available for purchase on Ravelry. Lastly, we've got the Fluff roving for all of the spinners out there who want a little (or big!) pop of color in their life!
If these vices aren't enough for you, check out our Vice "Yarn Flight" Sampler Sets! These fun samplers contain 10 mini-skeins of Vice's Paradigm yarn and come packaged in a Jimmy Beans Wool Logo Wine Glass with adorable Wine Charms from Spark! that double as stitch markers! These sample skeinettes are 20 yds each making them perfect for itty-bitty projects like hexi-puffs for the Tiny Owl Knits Beekeeper's Quilt, a Star Garland (the stars also make great coasters or ornaments!), or a Monkey Jacobus like the one Jeanne recently knit! | |

Check out all four prints and pick up your favorite while supplies last! | Juniper Moon Farm Sabine - 21 Brick $17.95 | Sabine yarn from Juniper Moon Farm is sure to become a trans-seasonal favorite! This exquisite blend of royal llama, merino, and cotton makes for a fabulous worsted weight yarn available in a range of rustic colors. Sabine's tweedy texture makes it the perfect all-season yarn for a variety of projects from cardigans and pullovers to shawls and wraps. We particularly love the Kayleen Pullover from the Summer '14 issue of Interweave Knits and the Bramble Wrap. This short-sleeved top is absolutely gorgeous with a beautiful cable motif that really shines in Sabine with its crisp stitch definition and airy drape! | Noro Knitting Magazine - Spring/Summer 2014 $9.99 | The new issue of Noro Magazine is here - and it's bursting with ways to get your Noro fix for this spring and summer! One of our favorites is the Feather and Fan Lace Blanket, an exquisite design done in Silk Garden that would be great to cozy up with on cool summer evenings. Another favorite is a set of Faux Cable Socks, made from Silk Garden Sock, which are just gorgeous and use a twisted stitch so you don't have to fuss with cables. In addition to being just full of wonderful patterns, this issue is a great resource and includes a super helpful article on bending Noro colors to your will-it should be required reading for all Noro enthusiasts! | Daniel Miller Wooden Yarn Bowl $45.00 | You asked, and we listened: You may recognize these handy yarn bowls as the base from the Rauma Flower Pots, and now they're available separately by popular request! These lovely wooden yarn bowls are hand-made by Daniel Miller, an Amish gentleman based in Wisconsin. They're a beautiful way to keep your yarn from rolling away from you as you knit or crochet, so keep one or two of these functional and decorative pieces on hand. They also make great gifts for the knitter or crocheter who has everything - or seems like they do! | Jimmy Beans Wool Hand Made Gifts - Joel Dewberry Heirloom Quilt $250.00 | We know that sometimes you want to give a hand-made gift, but just don't have the time to do it yourself. So we've approached some of our most talented crafty friends to create some beautiful hand-made items to sell in our shop and online. One of our current favorites is the Joel Dewberry Heirloom Quilt, which was created by our resident quilting guru, Gus, using fabrics by Joel Dewberry, mostly from the Heirloom collection. Gus designed this quilt himself and there are no others exactly like it, so it is truly one-of-a-kind! Like all of the other stunning items in our rotating Gifts selection, once it's gone, it is gone for good. |

Jenny's Lumen Shawl | Jenny just recently finished this gorgeous Lumen Shawl (a pattern from Brooklyn Tweed) in the rustically stunning Tracie yarn from Imperial Yarns! Knit in the perfectly neutral Desert Landscape color, this shawl took just 2 skeins of Tracie. Since Tracie was recently discontinued and we only have a little left in stock, we'd suggest Tracie Too as an alternative for a more colorful version of this shawl. If you want something with a more tweedy look like the original Brooklyn Tweed version, Shibui Pebble and Rowan Fine Tweed would make comparable (and stunning!) substitutes. |
Monika's Groovy Noro Capelet | Monika is a sucker for anything Noro, so when she had an opportunity to knit a shop sample in Noro Kirara, she jumped at the chance! She chose the Groove design by Stephen West, which is free from the Winter 2011 issue of Knitty. For this stunner, she used two different colors (#10 & #13), alternating as the pattern specifies, which created an extra-colorful, more actively striped version of the pattern. We love how bright and vibrant this turned out, so cute and fun! We can't wait to see Monika wearing it next winter. (PS: The buttons are from Monika's personal vintage collection.) |
Leanne's Fine Art Crescent Shawl | Leanne knit this gorgeous shawl as our shop sample for the beautiful Crescent Shawl pattern that comes with our Rowan Fine Art Gift Towers. This stunning shawl takes two skeins of Rowan Fine Art and US size 5 needles. The pattern includes the option for the shawl, shown here, that takes both skeins included in the tower, and a smaller scarf version that takes only one skein so you could potentially make one for you AND a friend. We just love how this shawl turned out! (Thanks to Lauren for modeling!) |
Ailene's Noro Kureyon Hooded Sweater | Ailene just completed her first sweater and it's simply stunning! The yarn is Noro Kureyon in color #277. The pattern is design #6 from Noro Collection Book #3 by Jenny Watson. This book in particular is a longtime favorite around here with tons of great classic designs. The pattern itself is quite simple and is seamed at the end. The seaming was Ailene's biggest challenge with this project because she'd never seamed a sweater before. With a little help from Terry she was on her way, and the result is absolutely fabulous! Nice work Ailene! |
Leanne's Mara Shawl | Yes, folks that's right, another Mara shawl! You may have noticed a trend here at JBW, we love the Mara! It's such a simple little pattern and the result is as lovely as can be. Leanne knit her Mara out of Anzula Cricket, a new yarn we just started to carry. She used a color called Fiona that she acquired at STITCHES West a couple of years ago and we now have in stock! The Mara Shawl pattern is available for free on the Madelinetosh website. We think Leanne's version is so lovely! |
