August 2014 Lorna's Laces Limited Edition Release

In fact, we couldn't help but celebrate with not one, but two limited edition colors!

The colors combine for an off-beat pairing that is perfectly complementary - just like the fictional couple! Fraser's deep reds and oranges are inspired by Jaime's distinctive hair color (and his sometime fiery nature), while the gorgeous blues and teal of Beauchamps take on the calming presence of Claire's capable attitude.

Along with these special colors, Rachel of Unraveled Designs and Yarn is hosting a Mystery Knit-A-Long in our Ravelry group to make a stunning two-color shawl! Knit in Shepherd Sport, the shawl requires either 2 skeins each of both limited edition colors, or your favorite sport weight yarn in two colors (400 yards each - stash busting, anyone?). The MKAL kicks off the same day as the show premiers, Saturday, August 9th, and will follow the same format as our last MKAL for the Game of Thrones-inspired Stormborn Shawl. Last-minute bonus! When Leticia at Spark found out we were doing a KAL and offered to do coordinating sets of stitch markers to go with Beauchamps and Fraser. Ourselves being fans of both Spark Stitch Markers, we asked her to send them ASAP! These beauties are still in production, but are currently available for pre-order and will ship August 6th. While you won't see stitch markers on the supply list for the MKAL, they are a great way to keep knitting once you've cast off the MKAL!

Chunky is a plied bulky yarn made from 100% merino that would really shine in sturdy sweaters like the Girl's Double Breasted Coat and cool-weather accessories like perennial favorite the Shawl Collared Cowl from Never Not Knitting. Nube is a pure wool roving dyed in Malabrigo's distinctive colors that is amazing for spinning, felting, and thrummed mittens.

As if more colors of Lace Baby Merino weren't enough to get you lace-knitters excited, we've also gotten more of the limited Lace Superwash, a plied 100% superwash wool that is exclusive to Jimmy Beans. Danube, available in an Aran weight, Bulky, and DK, has a tweedy, hand-spun texture. Unlike traditional tweeds, Danube is soft and squishy and, of course, available in a rainbow of hues. Great for 1-2 skein accessories such as the Danube Bulky Knotted Lace Hat, or Danube DK Shell Cowl, Danube is a hard-wearing yarn that gets softer and softer the more you wear it.

If you are looking for a sleeker fabric, Nocturne is right up your alley. This classic merino, acrylic and nylon blend comes in both Aran and DK weights. Each ply features a different rate of self-stripey-ness, and when spun together, gives the yarn a marled look. Great for keeping simple projects interesting, finished knits have beautiful bands of color that harmonize well together. Another great yarn for accessories and quick projects, the Nocturne Aran Eyelet Scarf takes only 3 skeins, while the Nocturne DK Waffle Cowl takes only 2!

We had a blast at our Stitch Mountain retreat with Rowan. The schedule was jam-packed with activities from touring JBW, taking a class with the amazing Sarah Hatton from Rowan, cocktail hours, outdoor activities, and more.
