We love Tosh yarn so much that we often comment on how we like to just look at (and sometimes pet) it in our stash. In fact, sometimes you'll find some of us (ahem, Kristen and Sandy) lingering too long near the Tosh section of the warehouse snuggling with all of the yarns. Now we've found a way to really put these amazing colors and fibers on display with these gorgeous Tosh Cornucopia Baskets! Available in Vintage or DK with small and large versions in both weights, each basket contains gorgeous fall colors of Tosh, arranged with fall foliage in a beautiful cornucopia basket that would make the perfect centerpiece for any table or fireplace mantle!
Huck loves Tosh, too! Be sure to check out our blog post with more photos we took behind the scenes!

 | The 2014 Winter Olympics will be here before we know it - and we are getting a head start on keeping our athletes warm (pun intended!). What are we up to this time, you ask? Well, we've set a goal of gifting every single Sochi-bound athlete (and their families) with a cozy and patriotic handmade hat, compliments of the yarn industry (after all, what goes better with winter sports than hand-knitted hats?). As you can see from the photo, we've finished one... just a few hundred to go!
Want to join us in our hat drive? Here's the skinny:
|
1. Each hat must be made in red, white, and blue. (The hats are going to the U.S. Teams)
2. Crafters choice: hats can be knit or crocheted. Any size needle, any type of fiber.
3. JBW will be the collection point for the hats. (i.e., mail your finished hat to us at 891 Trademark Drive, Reno, NV 89521.)
4. All hats must be delivered to JBW by January 1st.
5. JBW will deliver all of the collected hats to the various U.S. Teams!
6. Our goal is to deliver thousands of hats, so as to keep all of the athletes - and their families - warm! For those of you that don't already have red, white, and blue yarn at home - and/or don't know what pattern to use - we've created this Team USA Hat Kit which includes three balls of Schachenmayr Original Boston yarn in the quintessential patriotic trio of Red, White and Blue. The kit also comes with an exclusive hat design straight from our latest book, Stitch Mountain, which is debuting this December (we modified the pattern slightly by doing it in stripes instead of a solid color... as modeled here by future Olympic athlete, Huck.) But, remember, you don't have to use our pattern or our kit --we will happily forward on anyone's awesome handmade hat (as long as it's red, white, and blue)! Go Team USA! |

October is here and while everyone is preparing for Halloween, we are having ourselves a Masquerade Ball with Denise2Go! This month's limited edition needle case uses a fabric from the Star Flakes and Glitter Collection by Tina Givens with a complementary contrast color to tie in with the whimsical theme. Inside each set are six of the most popular needle sizes, US 5-10, and 14", 16", 19" cables. Also included in each special limited edition case are cord connectors, end caps, and a crochet hook. | |
All of these essentials pack up into a palm-sized case that is perfect for knitting on the go! So while you are prepping for the holidays this year, be it a masquerade ball or not, make sure to have this festive little set in your back pocket for those times when you just need to start your next project! |

Shibui Pebble - 0040 Spore $16.95 | Shibui's latest fiber offering, Pebble, may be one of their most stunning yet! A light and lofty blend of cashmere, recycled silk, and merino wool, this fingering weight yarn has so much potential for a variety of projects. With a slightly tweedy look, you can use it for sweaters like the Knitbot Wispy or Featherweight Cardigans, shawls like the Truckee Shawlette, or scarves like a subtle version of the Churchmouse Linen Stitch Scarf. Pebble is sure to provide a classically rustic look to any design. | Mirasol Sulka - 247 Pewter $9.95 | We've had Mirasol Sulka in stock for quite some time, and we are always amazed at its softness. This fall there is an even bigger reason to love this yarn, with a batch of six lovely new colors and patterns to accompany them! Sulka is a scrumptious blend of merino wool, alpaca, and silk, which makes it perfect for heavier weight winter garments and accessories. We love the Leaf Panel Jacket with its feminine shape and lace detailing and the vintage styled 3/4 Sleeved Jacket for its fun textured pattering and classic shape. Any way you knit it, you are going to love the silky softness of Mirasol Sulka! | Hikoo Kenzie - 1005 Bayberry $8.95 | Of all of the new yarns we've received recently, this may be Kristen's favorite! The perfect blend of New Zealand merino, angora, alpaca, silk, and nylon, Kenzie takes tweed to the next level of awesome (and softness!). Along with this fabulous new yarn, Skacel has provided some amazing free pattern support to accompany it. We love the Pine Bough Cowl, Tayberry Hat and Cedar Leaf Scarf patterns, which are now available as kits on our site! | Hill Country Weavers - Prairie Bliss - Vol. 1 $22.95 | When Laura recently visited Hill Country Weavers in Austin, Texas, she just knew we HAD to carry their stunning western-inspired patterns. Prairie Bliss Vol. 1 contains a stunning range of western inspired patterns, including the vintage styled Prairie Point Crocheted Skirt, the Sweet Azalea Blanket in Tosh Pashmina and Tosh Merino Light, and the Strawberry Fields Socks in Solemate. Be sure to check out their other wonderful patterns and books that we carry! | Pippa Yarn Dispenser - 098 Dr. S. Flowers $20.00 | Della Q needle cases and other knitting accessories have long been some of the most beautiful and functional items we sell. The Pippa Yarn dispenser, which is now available in several new prints and colors, is an ingenious design meant to keep your skeins of yarn neat and tidy in your knitting bag. The Pippa allows you to cinch the top just enough to let your yarn to pull through the opening but not pull your entire ball of yarn out of the bag. When you are done knitting, the bag is large enough to fit a small project inside! **Hot Tip: we now have select discontinued fabric styles in this adorable bag on sale!** | Tula Pink Acacia - Racoon - Canyon $10.99/yd | The latest collection from Tula Pink highlights the simple joys of nature with whimsical prints and colors! A butterfly blends into the leaves, a raccoon hides in the surrounding landscape, and daisies sink into a field of grass, all bathed in the rich eccentric hues of nature's palette. We have the entire collection here in the shop and can't wait to get creative with it! In fact, Kristen is planning to make another Schoolhouse Tunic out of one of the Racoon prints soon. And, for a little quilting inspiration, be sure to check out Free Spirit's Treasure Hunt Quilt that uses the entire collection to create a gorgeous cozy masterpiece! |

As if the fact that Artyarns and Tahki Stacy Charles are collaborating wasn't exciting enough, they had to go and throw a little glitter into the mix! This fall season, a little sparkle is popping up all around us in yarns from every brand we carry, but I think it's safe to say that Artyarns has always had that area covered. Tranquility Glitter's light and soft blend of extra fine merino, cashmere, and silk make it perfect for soft accessories and garments. Check out the Trailing Vines Shawl from the TSC Artyarns Second Collection booklet, which uses one skein of either regular Tranquility or Tranquility Glitter.
Also new this Fall from TSCArtyarns are the luscious Cashmere Tweed and Vanessa yarns. Cashmere Tweed is an amazingly soft blend of merino wool tweed and cashmere in a selection of tonally variegated colors. We love the Woodlands Hat and Wristwarmers; they are perfectly luxurious accessories that make a great holiday gift and just take one skein to make the whole set! The Scarlet Fever Cowl in the new TSCArtyarns Vanessa is also stunning. This worsted weight kid mohair and merino wool blend yarn is the quintessential winter yarn that is wonderful for garments and accessories.

Leanne's Blue Heron Tunic | Leanne had a sample skein of Blue Heron Rayon Metallic and loved the color so much she knew it HAD to become a tank or tunic. After a little Ravelry research, she settled on Janna's Tunic by one of her favorite designers, Grace Akhrem. Leanne knit the smallest size and had a little bit of yarn left over, so she thinks one skein of the Blue Heron is enough for the first two sizes. Although we don't carry this particular color, Parrot, she thinks the Deep Copper, Curry, or Water Hyacinth colors would garner a similar variegated effect. We don't currently carry this Grace Akhrem pattern, but it is available for purchase as a download on Ravelry. |
Bethany's 'Some Cloudy Day' Legwarmers | It gets pretty cold in our warehouse in the winter, so this year Bethany wanted to be prepared with some cute legwarmers to wear on those extra chilly days. She found the free 'Some Cloudy Day' leg warmers pattern by Tiny Owl Knits, which turned out to be exactly what she was looking for! Bethany really wanted to use the new Malabrigo Mecha yarn, but the gauge is much bigger than the pattern called for, so she knew she would have to alter it a bit. Since the Mecha calls for a US size 11 needle and she knits at a really loose gauge, Bethany grabbed a US size 9 needle and cast on 40 sts. (If someone with an average gauge were to knit this in the Mecha, it would be best to stick with the US 11 that the yarn calls for.) Bethany found that 40 stitches were enough to be able to follow the pattern easily and still get the size she needed. That was it! Easy peasy, and the result is this cute and cozy pair of legwarmers that she can wear all winter long! |
Amanda's Malabrigo Slouchy Hat | Amanda is a new pretty knitter and she really wanted a simple hat she could knit to wear this fall. She found the Simple Slouchy Hat pattern on Ravelry, which was perfect for a beginner knitter! The pattern called for just one skein of Malabrigo Worsted Merino, and US size 8 & 9 needles. The result is a cozy hat that she'll wear all winter long! Nice job Amanda! |
Kristen's Big Montana Tunic | Kristen has wanted to knit this tunic ever since it came out in the Fall 2009 issue of Interweave Knits (now the pattern can be purchased as an individual download from the Interweave Online Store.) Designed by Cecily Glowick MacDonald, the Big Montana Tunic was originally knit in Tahki Montana yarn, but Kristen had some discontinued Lana Grossa yarn in her stash that fit the gauge and had a little sparkle to it (bonus!), so she used that instead. She was thrilled when the tunic grew in length with the first blocking and now it falls about 4" below her hips. She had to alter the design a bit for her height, so she added an extra 4" to the length of the body, and an extra 4" (2" on the front and 2" on the back) to the armholes. She also opted for a 2x2 ribbing for the entire cowl neck collar, and after the final blocking anticipates that it will have plenty of drape as the neck on the original tunic had. We can't wait to see the finished result! |
Skye's Tardis Socks | Skye is a big Dr. Who fan, so in anticipation for the upcoming season, she just HAD to knit something Dr. Who-themed. Enter the awesome Tardis Socks, a free pattern on Ravelry. Skye used Cascade Heritage in Royal Blue and White. Sock # 2 is on the needles, and Skye is well on her way to finishing this fall!

Laura's Color Blocked Bias Wrap | Laura was so excited about her latest knitting accomplishment because it's the first knit in the 4+ years since Huck was born! This gorgeous wrap is knit in Classic Elite's MountainTop Chalet yarn - a squishy blend of baby alpaca and bamboo in a range of all natural color blends. This wrap takes 6 skeins, and is a quick knit on large needles. The pattern is from Classic Elite's Handmade Los Angeles Book 1 and is called the Color Blocked Bias Wrap. Nice work Laura! |
