November sparks the debut of the next Hunger Games movie, and all of us here at Jimmy Beans are burning with excitement for its big release on the 22nd! That is why we couldn't help but design a special color in honor of the big event. The color "Catching Fire" is a yarny embodiment of "the girl on fire." Fiery flames of cranberry engulf the deep charcoal and pewter grays, creating the perfect tonal representation of the flaming capes that Katniss and Peeta wear during the lead up to their first Hunger Games. The color is ultimately perfect and timely for part two of this thrilling series.
With the movie in mind, we thought this color would be ideal for some outdoorsy-themed winter accessories. Haymarket is an excellent yarn for the Scarf/Hood and Wrist Warmers pattern by Knitting Pure and Simple, garments that would have come in handy for Katniss to have on cold nights in the arena. Churchmouse's Boyfriend Watch Cap in Worsted, with its temperature controlling Outlast fiber, would be the perfect warm cap for Peeta to wear during the games to keep his body temperature at peak levels. Or, since boot cuffs seem to be the hot accessory of the season, why not try the Cozy Boot Cuffs from Churchmouse, also in Shepherd Worsted? Whether you or someone you love is a fan of these iconic books and movies, knitting with "Catching Fire" this November is a great way to celebrate the second installment in the Hunger Games movie series!
"Catching Fire" is available in all of your favorite Lorna's Laces yarns including: Lorna's newest yarn, Haymarket, Shepherd Sock, Shepherd Worsted, Shepherd Sport, Helen's Lace, Lion & Lamb, Honor, Solemate, and Sportmate!

November is an exciting month around here, as we begin to ramp up for the holidays. Not only are we about to release our yearly holiday collection that we've been working on hard for months and are SO excited to reveal to you on November 22nd, but we have some other fun and exclusive items we are debuting just in time as the festivities begin. | The first of these is our Luxury Fiber Sampler set. Have you ever wanted to try knitting with cashmere, yak, or even mink? We certainly do (who can resist ultra-soft and exotic yarn?!), so we created these special sets that span a range of our most luxurious fibers, allowing you to give them all a go without spending a lot of dough. Each Luxury Fiber Sampler includes twelve 20 yard mini-skeins in a palette of wintery neutrals in of some of our most high-end yarns: Jade Sapphire, Artyarns, and Reywa Fibers, just to name a few. |
The set comes contained in a special Limited Edition Tin, perfect for holiday gift giving! As a bonus, Kristen designed a special pattern using the yarns inside the sampler to give you something more to knit than just a square. The result is this month's free pattern - the Luxury Holiday Garland! This garland is comprised of twelve stars knit in each of the yarns in the collection and joined by a soft cotton and linen blend yarn (also included in the sampler) that has the appearance of rustic twine to connect them all together. We can't wait to hang this stunning garland on our fireplace mantle, banister or tree this holiday season to dress up our home in fibery goodness! Don't you want one too?!?!

| I don't know about you, but the older I get, the more often I ask myself "what sort of gift should I get for the guy or gal that already has everything?!" Or, "what sort of gift can I give that I know won't end up in the back of their closet?" Sound familiar? As I write this, December 25th is exactly 2 months away... which means that some of us need to start doing some strategizing, budgeting, and planning. Personally, I'm a sucker for any sort of gift that comes in a box or a basket. Pretty much anyone who knows me will tell you that I constantly ask for "food or yarn in a pretty box!" when quizzed on what I want for Christmas or my birthday (or for Boss's day - haha!).
|
I can't help it - I LOVE pretty boxes or packaging (and I love food & yarn)! And, since we don't sell food - but do sell yarn - we thought it'd be fun to create a few options for those of you who also love stuff in pretty packaging. Our first few baskets are below... but don't hesitate to email us if you have other ideas, as we'd love to hear them! (And please visit us soon in Reno - we are in the midst of building a "DIY build your own basket bar" in the shop!) Interested in something simpler? How about one of these?! |

Fall means a whole new batch of yarns and gorgeous designs from all of our many yarn vendors, and each year we wait eagerly for the latest offerings from Classic Elite. This year we welcome Ava, Horizon, and Wynter (yep, totally spelled with a "y") into our shop. Ava is a DK weight merino wool with a metallic strand running through it making it perfect for holiday glam knits. We love the Bastille Hat and Notre Dame Scarf, which are both wonderful for dressing up any holiday ensemble.
Next up we have Horizon, a soft, chunky-weight multicolored yarn that really stands out. We love the Honovi cardigan for its bulky warmth and the Adoette scarf and Tayanita hat for their traditional winter coziness. Kristen's favorite is the Alo cowl, because of its simple construction and feminine ruffles.
Lastly, Wynter, a dyed version of Classic Elite's MountainTop Blackthorn yarn, comes in 16 vibrant colors that knit up quickly on big needles. Some of our favorite patterns are the Koko Jacket and Cowl, which can be knit as a matching set or as separates, and the Panik Jacket, which is wonderful for chilly days. All in all, these gorgeous new yarns from Classic Elite are sure to inspire plenty of woolly knits this winter!

Yikes. It's almost winter! And even though fall is by far my favorite season, I'm still excited for the snow to fly - primarily because it means that I get to watch Huck get bundled up, strap on his skis, and shoot down the mountain. It doesn't get much cuter than that! As such, and in celebration of skiing - and knitting - season, we've just added six new free hat patterns to the site, courtesy of Schachenmayr's My Mountain campaign. So, grab some yarn, cast on to your needles and hooks, and join me in whipping up some hats for kids (and adults) like Huck! Happy Knitting & Crocheting, Laura (aka. Jimmy)
