 | I am always thinking of things that you might like to learn and am a huge fan of the basics, so enter my trusty pinking shears! I use them all the time when I am sewing to minimize the fraying of fabrics as I work. I am currently working on a patchwork pillow, and guess what I grabbed to help me with the final detail on the front of the pillow? Yep, you guessed it! My pinking shears!! The pattern calls for some embellishment on the front and I decided to pink the edges of some circles in descending sizes and will be using applique to attach them, with a cute button at the center. |
When I use these handy scissors I make my first cut and then place the points of the scissors into a point up ahead, ready to make another clean cut. If I don't take time to do this, my points can get all wonky and uneven, so I recommend a little practice - and you will be a pro in no time! I feel that my shears are invaluable in my sewing box and encourage you to give them a try.
As always, happy sewing! Jeanne

 | We absolutely fell in love with the Shades of Black collection by Me and My Sister while attending Quilt Market in Portland. These quilting cottons are sure to make a splash since they feature subtle, monochromatic prints which create endless possibilities that are big on style. Me and My Sister turned the various prints from this collection into the delightful L7 Quilt pattern, too! Why the name L7? Because that's what you see when looking at the dark colored blocks: Ls and 7s! |
For a taste of the Shades of Black collection without committing to a large project, try the Mini Charm Packs. These cute bundles contain 42 squares that are 2.5" by 2.5" and are perfect for the patterns in the Moda Candy Booklet, which showcases 18 projects specially designed for Mini Charm Packs. So what'll it be? A quilt? A pillowcase? A table runner? Whatever you choose, it's likely to be sweet! |

Sharon's Sew Project Bags | Sharon fell in love with the Erin McMorris Moxie collection as soon as it arrived, so of course she had to make some of Kristen's fun project bags!! She made 2 different sizes and said the pattern is really easy to follow. She will be using her bags for projects, shopping in the Farmer's Markets and even for traveling bags! Versatility is the name of the game with this great pattern. |
Jeanne's Schoolhouse Tunic | Jeanne just completed her first Schoolhouse Tunic and is already planning her second one! She chose Valori Wells' Jenaveve Linen in the color Pebbles - Toffee for hers and loves the feel. And of course linen is so great for the hot months here in Reno! Jeanne says the pattern is super easy to follow, though she did take the time to make a bodice using some muslin to check for fit and she did end up changing her size option at that point. This saved her tons of time and fabric in the long run and she suggests taking the time to do so, especially if you are new to garment sewing. |
Sandy's Pillow Case | Sandy has been eyeing the Valori Wells Novella collection ever since it arrived and just had to jump in!! She was looking for a smallish project that would show off this lovely fabric, and Valori's Pillow Cases pattern was just the inspiration she needed. She did change a couple of things from the pattern and used french seams on the inside, as well as a turned hem on the inside of the case. We are all ready to follow in her footsteps, so stay tuned for a whole lot of fancy cases! Note: the pattern includes directions for a travel pillow as well. |
