He's starred in a slew of movies and made People Magazine's list of Sexiest Men Alive more times than can be counted - but now Brad Pitt has achieved the true pinnacle of success: a Lorna's Laces Limited Edition Color dyed in his honor! That's right, the January LLE color "A River Runs Through It" was inspired by none other than Brad Pitt, who turns 50 in December 2013! I know we're a little early for a birthday celebration, but we loved this color so much we couldn't wait to release it! Whether or not you are a fan of the man himself or just like pretty string, it's easy to appreciate this color with its muted blues and greens inspired by the film that helped seal Brad Pitt's status in the hearts of movie lovers worldwide.
The "Sexiest Color Alive" is available in our favorite Lorna's Laces yarns!
Please note some yarns were so popular they disappeared before this newsletter went out! Fear not, more is on its way and should be arriving soon. |

While it may be cliche, we couldn't help kicking off 2013 with a Top 10 list of things we're looking forward to and celebrating this year. If you hadn't guessed, #1 is Mr. Pitt's half-century birthday this December. Many of us at the shop, including myself, are huge fans, not only of Brad's ruggedly handsome features, but his amazing talent as an actor and the entertainment he has provided for decades to film fanatics around the globe.
2) Beanie Baby! One of the Beans here at the shop, Nicole -and her husband CJ- are expecting a beautiful baby boy to arrive this month. Needless to say, none of us can wait to meet him!
3) 50 isn't just for Brad Pitt. This year is also the 50th Anniversary of the popular and beloved British television show, Dr. Who!
| 4) The February release of Sew Red, the companion to last year's Stitch Red book, Knit Red. All copies will be signed by the author (that's me, Laura!) -you can even pre-order one today! 5) ISON, a comet rumored to be brighter than the moon, will be streaking across the night sky in October and should be visible through January 2014. |
6) Downton Abbey Season 3: Of course we are thrilled to find out what happens next to the characters of Downton, but we're also looking forward to our Downton Mystery KAL that begins on Sunday Jan. 6th. See the JBW Blog for more info! 7) A Royal Baby! Everyone loved the April 2011 LLE, Royal Wedding; perhaps it's time to have another royalty-inspired colorway?
| 8) Our Hot Tub Full Of Yarn: For anyone who has ever dreamed of submerging themselves in yarn, come visit us and take a dip!
9) The movie adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel, The Great Gatsby, directed by Baz Luhrmann (Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge) is sure to be phenomenal starring Leo Dicaprio as Jay Gatsby.
|
10) All the new yarn and fabric! Sorry to be vague, but we happen to know there are some pretty amazing yarns and fabrics coming in this year and we can't wait to share them with you!
Feel free to shoot us a note and let us know what's on your Top 10 this year!

It's easy to get excited about Cascade yarns - they come in every color under the sun, in every weight and gauge, and range from hard-working basic wool to top-of-the-line luxury blends. But this year, they've outdone themselves: Cascade has gotten us even more excited with several new yarns for warm and cozy winter projects, including two hand-painted lines! Magnum Paints is the multi-color cousin to your favorite super-bulky Magnum yarn; a squishy, thick single-ply in bold, variegated colors, this yarn quickly works up into a sumptuous fabric you just want to dig your hands into. It's perfect for felted projects, too - we can't wait to try it out on some felted slippers to see how the beautiful colors blend together! Pure Alpaca Paints is the second new hand-painted option - worsted weight 100% baby alpaca in mesmerizing bright tonal colors, it's a silky-soft dream to work with; and the finished fabric has a gorgeous sheen and drape. Another Cascade yarn we can't help but touch every time we walk by it is Highland Duo, a 70/30 baby alpaca and merino wool blend in a worsted weight just perfect for cozy accessories and durable but soft sweaters. The colors are deep and saturated jewel tones that complement any skin tone and add a sophisticated pop of brightness to dark winter garments and coats. For a more neutral look, Eco Highland Duo is the minimally processed take on the same yarn; it's un-dyed and comes in shades from deep coffee brown to pale eggshell, exactly as it would be found on the animal from which it was shorn. For an equally luxurious feel and spectacular loft, Sitka is a finger-pleasing option. A heavy worsted weight blend of merino wool and kid mohair, it makes a plush, comfy fabric guaranteed to keep out the chill! |

Double Pointed Needle Keepers $12.00 | We're never disappointed with the clever, useful products Saremy Duffy of Chicken Boots dreams up - not only are her fabric choices super cute and colorful, but her designs are also functional! Take her new Double Pointed Needle Keepers; constructed of two fabric end caps connected by an elastic band, they're easy-on, easy-off, adjustable, and will keep your project on your needles without squashing, creasing, or tangling it. You can fit all 4 or 5 DPNs in the Keepers at the same time, too, so you don't lose a loose needle in the bottom of a bag or a couch cushion. To top it off, they come in two lengths to accommodate both short sock needles and much longer ones (over 7 inches). All those points have never been more manageable! | Rastita 049 Jupiter $15.20 | Malabrigo Rasta yarn has a baby sister: Rastita! You love Rasta for its fluffy softness and beautiful kettle-dyed colors - now you can experience both in this versatile DK weight! Rastita still has the lofty, cushy feel of single-ply merino wool, with the benefit of a lighter weight perfect for accessories, baby items, and even sweaters. At an unbelievable 310 yards per skein, use one skein for the Never Not Knitting Cloudy Day Beret or 3-5 skeins for Knitbot's Sycamore Vest - the possibilities are limitless! | Claire Bandana Pattern $5.00 | We prize Swan's Island patterns for their ability to combine timeless elegance with warmth and function. The designs are simple and straightforward, and are meant to create classic-looking garments that will be worn often and loved much. Some designs especially drew our eye this season, like the Claire Bandana and Sarah Bandana. The former takes just 2 skeins of Natural Colors Worsted, while the latter requires only one skein of Natural Colors Fingering. We also like Just Your Basic Crew which is designed to flatter both men and women. Make one for everyone in the family - it's sure to become a favorite! | 04 Southern Spices $21.60 | If there's one yarn that's inspired our imaginations, it's Misti Alpaca's Best of Nature Hand Paint Worsted. This 100% baby alpaca yarn is hand-dyed using colors from natural sources: vegetables, seashells, minerals, even onion skin! We love looking at the labels to see how the different colors were sourced. Each skein is unique - the hand-painting process results in subtle tonal variations - and the downy halo of baby alpaca is absolutely exquisite! It would be perfect for a snuggly cowl like Ann Norling's Easy Cowl in Any Gauge or cozy hats and mittens like this Basic Set from Knitting Pure and Simple... Yum! |

Ruffle yarns have been more popular this year than ever, and the choices are never-ending! Katia, creator of two of our most sought-after yarns - Triana and Triana Lux (now on sale) - has branched out from the run-of-the-mill mesh ruffle to offer several exciting new options that will surely tickle your ruffle fancy. Roma is a wide ribbon-construction yarn that comes in beautiful, muted colors reminiscent of a desert sunset. Knit along one edge just like the mesh ruffle yarns, it works up into wide, fluffy ruffles topped with silky ribbons of softly contrasting colors. Funny also has a flat ribbon construction, but the resulting ruffles have a really unique woven look with subtle stripes throughout. Try folding it in half lengthwise and knitting through both edges for a tubular ruffle! Both Roma and Funny are perfect for cozy, stylish scarves to give that extra something special to a winter coat. If you're looking for something really unique, check out Brooklyn! It is unlike any other ruffle yarn: two different colored strands of fleecy, feathery wool on either side of an open-construction mesh can be worked up in a variety of ways to give you a truly one-of-a-kind look - try it knitted horizontally or vertically for different effects. Or, how about a hand-knit necklace or wristlet made from Grace, a fine nylon mesh yarn with shimmering metal beads along one edge? The textured mesh works up quickly into a variety of projects, and the glittering beads add sparkle to any design - use it to dress up an entire project, like a special evening bag, or as a fun trim on a shawl or glove cuffs for a classy bit of bling! Get some project inspiration and learn to knit and crochet with Brooklyn, Roma, Funny, and Grace from the video tutorials on Katia's website! |

Currently one of our e-commerce Team Leads, Ailene has worked at Jimmy Beans in some capacity or another for about three years now and we couldn't be more pleased that she has stuck around (if we're lucky she'll stay forever!)! If you've followed our blog over the years, you may remember when she traveled to China to study abroad and shared her experiences with us. She recently graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a dual degree in International Affairs and Biology but is currently taking some time off from school before deciding her next move. At the moment she is thinking of becoming an Ultrasound Technician - super cool!
Ailene is an awesome knitter and has made some gorgeous items over the years, including the lovely Koigu Linen Stitch Scarf she is showing off in this picture. Koigu KPPPM is actually one of her all-time favorite yarns because it is gorgeous and the colors make it really fun to knit with. Her other favorite knitting tools are the Dreamz Interchangeable Needles. She has the full set and says they are the best knitting investment she's ever made! |
