For all of you who have been dying to know what all the hullabaloo is about surrounding Operation Turkey Trot, the "turkey" is now out of the bag! This year, we have put together our first ever Jimmy Beans Wool Holiday Collection featuring one-of-a-kind colors and products from some of our favorite hand dyers and vendors. We decided to call the collection Fit For A Feast, as the collection theme for 2012 was "favorite Thanksgiving day dishes". As you can see below, no one held back - this is truly a feast to be remembered! These exclusive products are available in very limited quantities, so be sure to grab your favorites before they disappear. In addition to this fantabulous yarn feast, we have put together an actual feast for your culinary pleasure. That's right, for every product featured in this collection, there is a corresponding recipe! We asked each hand-dyer to not only create a color based on their favorite Thanksgiving day recipe but to submit said recipe to us as well! We've compiled all these recipes in one booklet, which is available as a PDF on our website. Anyone who purchases a Fit For A Feast product will receive with their order a special link allowing them access to this scrumptious compilation of spectacular dishes. In October, we had a JBW potluck to test drive all the recipes from this booklet and the verdict was a unanimous YUM!
But wait, there's more! While you can purchase anything from the Fit For A Feast collection a la carte, we also have created easy-to-order Gift Baskets featuring some or all of the "dishes" from Fit For A Feast! Each basket will include yarn (colors and amounts will vary, but are specified in each kit), a LoLo To Go bar in The Queens Buns, and a limited edition Fit For A Feast Project Bag. The best part? All Gift Baskets are packaged in meal containers so you can take your yarn feast to go!
If you would like to view the entire Fit For A Feast collection all in one place, just go to www.JimmyBeansWool.com/FitForAFeast!

Tosh Merino Light - Turducken $19.20 | Leanne really, really, really wanted someone to pick turducken as their dyed dish. So, you can imagine how thrilled she was when Madelinetosh picked it as their inspiration! The warm, autumn tones of this color may not directly conjure images of a chicken inside of a duck inside of a turkey (Turducken!), however, you can't help but be reminded of harvest-themed decorations, comfort food and holiday gatherings when feasting your eyes on this gorgeous colorway. | Tough Love - Truffles and Sage $24.00 | Felicia, the wonder-woman behind SweetGeorgia is a self-proclaimed stuffing-lover. She chose this color as a challenge - while it is her favorite (and the most delicious) Thanksgiving day dish, it is not the most beautiful or colorful thing on the table. Despite the odds, Felicia has created a stunning color that reflects stuffing's inner beauty. The greens, yellows, oranges and deep charcoal make this unique colorway truly special. | Smooshy - Cranberry Kale $24.00 | Stay heart healthy over the holidays with this scrumptious salad from Nancy and Veronica at Dream in Color! A super quick side dish, and also an eye-catching colorway, Cranberry Kale is not to be overlooked. We love the bright combination of berry reds and purples with the fresh green accents - both in the Smooshy yarn base and on our plates! | Ensemble Light - JB1 Corn Pudding $58.00 | Not just a scrumptious comfort food, Corn Pudding is a sophisticated melange of soft and light fall colors inspired by this classic dish. Available in both Ensemble Light and Beaded Silk Light, Corn Pudding is a exquisite colorway for shawls, wraps and lacy shrugs. Iris (the creative genius behind Artyarns), picked corn as her muse for this colorway since it is a traditional part of the harvest season and Thanksgiving. | Silk/Cashmere 2-ply - Cranberry Orange $37.00 | It was love at first sight with Cranberry Orange! This color is superbly striking with its bold combination of cranberry reds and citrusy oranges. In addition to making her mother's delicious Cranberry Mold recipe for Thanksgiving (in her castle-shaped mold, of course), Jane, of Jade Sapphire, created a simple fresh cranberry dish - Cranberry Orange Relish. Not only is it a scrumptious side, but a beautiful and colorful one to boot! | Jimmy Beans Dreamz Limited Edition Needle Set $82.49 | Need something to consume all of these amazing yarns with? Look no further than the Holiday 2012 Dreamz Deluxe set from Knitter's Pride! These limited edition needle sets are truly one-of-a-kind. Featuring sleek, onyx tips (we like to think they resemble silverware Fit For A (yarn) Feast!) in sizes US 4 through US 11 along with a spiffy case and four cords (one each 24" and 40" plus two 32"), you'll be set to start knitting just about anything. |

Shepherd Sock - Pumpkin Pie $24.50 | Beth, of Lorna's Laces, always uses the recipe on the back of Libby's canned pumpkin when making pumpkin pie every fall. Growing up her mom always said it was the best, and she would never doubt her mom! This savory tonal colorway embodies the rich, rustic pumpkin hues of a pie just out of the oven. | Worsted Merino - Pecan Pie $11.00 | We firmly believe you can never have too much pie, so don't stop with pumpkin - be sure to try some pecan too! A warm blend of crunchy, sweet and luscious browns, this yummy colorway almost glows with deliciousness. Even though the folks at Malabrigo (based in Uruguay) don't normally celebrate Thanksgiving, they were very excited to creating this enticing color and be a part of the collection - boy are we glad they did! |
Lo-Lo Body Bar - Queen's Buns $11.90 | Can you guess the scent of this royal Fit For A Feast product? Cinnamon Buns! Kismet, the skin care guru of Bar-Maids, and her family bake cinnamon buns for breakfast every time they get together for the holidays in honor of her grandmother, whose nickname was The Queen. Available in Lo-Lo Body Bars and smaller Lo-Lo To-Go bars, this heavenly scent will have you jonesing for some sticky sweet yummy buns! | KPPPM - Fluffy Pudding (1) $14.00 | Simple and delicate, Fluffy Pudding (the dish), also known as Bubert, is an Estonian dessert. While you may not recognize it as part of the traditional Thanksgiving fare, Fluffy Pudding is a dish Taiu (founder of Koigu) and her family enjoy during the holidays each year. Also simple and delicate, this lovely colorway from Koigu is an elegant mix of deep berry tones drizzled over a modest, vanilla base. As a special treat, Taiu dyed three different versions of this color, so be sure to check out version 2 and version 3! We think they'd be perfect for a berrylicious Churchmouse Linen Stitch Scarf - it requires just one hank of each color! |
Fyberspates Faery Wings - Mulled Wine $30.00 |
A native of Britain, Jeni celebrated her first Thanksgiving 8 years ago when one of her American friends decided to throw a massive Thanksgiving feast. She remembers it as one of the MOST wonderful dinners she has ever had. While she doesn't normally celebrate Thanksgiving, we're so glad she participated in this collection! Her color, Mulled Wine, is simply beautiful. The sultry burgundy, red and purple hues that are a perfect match for the Faery Wings yarn, with its soft mohair halo and silky glow.
|
Mudra Cuff - Cherry Lux $18.50 | I like to call this one "the cherry on top" of the 2012 Holiday Collection. The Cherry Lux Mudra Cuff Kit by Nelkin Designs uses SweetGeorgia's luxurious Silk Crush yarn in a festive cherry red color. The kit includes everything you need (yarn, beads, clasp, pattern) and is perfect for gift-giving or dressing up your holiday party attire. The to-die-for recipe that inspired this super-stylish bracelet is the Chococlate Cherry Ginger Bark (recipe found in the recipe PDF). Both the tasty treat and beautiful bracelet are worth indulging in this holiday season! |

Another exclusive for this November is the Limited Edition Denise2Go! Aptly named A Walk In The Park, the fabrics we chose remind us of walks in the crisp fall air taken right after a delicious Thanksgiving dinner! If you are unfamiliar with the handy dandy Denise2Gos, each set includes six pairs of smooth acrylic needle tips in the most popular sizes (US 5 through US 10), a crochet hook, 3 cords in 14", 16" and 19" lengths, 2 end buttons and one extender. Basically everything you need to knit anywhere, anytime, all in one easy-to-carry bundle. Be sure to grab your A Walk In The Park now since only 50 sets were made. Once they're gone, they are gone! | | Also available are the Stitch Red and Vogue Knitting Live styles! We created these limited edition sets especially for the Stitches East and VK Live in Chicago shows and had a few sets remaining after the shows. Super-cute and one-of-a-kind, these sets make great gifts, perfect for your favorite on-the-go knitter! |

Shepherd Sock - A Light At The End $24.50 | If you went into November thinking, "Rusty Bucket? That doesn't have anything to do with Breaking Dawn!" don't worry, we didn't forget! In honor of the final movie release this week that brings the epic Twilight Saga to a close, we are releasing a super-special colorway, A Light At The End. Whether you've already been to the midnight showing or are just glad it's all over (we know not everyone is a fan), this final Twilight-themed colorway is sure to be a favorite no matter your stance. |
A smooth, elegant combination of deep navy, rich mulberry and a refreshing dash of light blue, A Light At The End is available only in Shepherd Sock and Shepherd Worsted. The yarn is currently available for pre-order and will ship November 20th but you might not want to wait wait until then. We've already pre-sold quite a bit, and once it runs out, there will be no more! |

Peavine Peak, a tall standing mountain on the north end of the Truckee Meadows (where Reno is located) is an important landmark to Reno residents and is one of my favorite places in the area. At one point, I lived a short walking distance from the mountain and I would walk my dog Wallace there almost daily. However, Peavine's history extends well beyond recreation. The native Washoe tribes used Peavine not only as a landmark, but a seasonal indicator. It is said that the Washoe would not plant their summer crops until all of the snow melted off of Peavine in the spring, a rule that many local residents (myself included) use to this day when planning their gardens.
Peavine Peak has had such significance in my life as a Reno resident that I thought it a fitting inspiration for this design. This matching hat and cowl set is knit with two yarns held together -- a beautiful hand-dyed merino wool ( Tosh Merino DK) and a silky mohair ( Debbie Bliss Angel) to create a cozy set to wear on the coldest of days. The hat has an updated slouchy fit while the cowl is shaped slightly to widen a bit at the bottom for a more comfortable drape. The simple faux cable pattern creates a bit of interest while still being an easy knit. This set is perfect for those late fall hikes on Peavine Peak, or anywhere else you choose to enjoy them! |

The importance of gauge can't be stressed enough! A tiny difference in stitch gauge will make a HUGE difference in the size of garment. Checking gauge is never a waste, knitting a sweater that doesn't fit is!
Here's how you can ensure you obtain the exact pattern gauge:
-Compare pattern gauge to suggested gauge on the yarn label. If close then the yarn will work for the pattern. You will still have to swatch and possibly adjust your needle size to get exact pattern gauge.
-Make a large swatch, 30 - 40 stitches wide and 4" tall according to pattern, use the same needles to be used for the project. If knitting in the round, swatch in the round.
-Don't expect to cast-on the number of stitches needed in 4" and expect it to measure 4". It won't! Edge stitches, cast on & bind off all affect gauge.
How to measure gauge on your swatch:
-Launder the swatch as you would your finished garment. Important because yarn can bloom or shrink!
-Use a gauge check or a good ruler, measure no closer than 1" to any edge.
-Count stitches in full 4". Be sure to count partial stitches, even an eighth of a stitch will make a difference in the size of your finished sweater.
-If you have too few stitches per inch, your gauge is loose and you will need to work another swatch with a smaller needle.
-If you have too many stitches per inch, your gauge is tight and you will need to work another swatch with a larger needle.
Repeat process until you get the exact pattern gauge.
Always take time to swatch and measure gauge! You won't regret it! For the visual learners out there, check out our Gauge Check Instructional Video!
Happy knitting!
Terry

Available in several print colorways, this yarn is a great choice for creating perfect fashion accessories to combat the cold winter temperatures. Another ruffle yarn with a little more texture to it is Petals, which features a fine fishnet construction (much like Bossa Nova). With an iridescent band along one edge, Petals results in shorter ruffles than most yarns but just one ball is plenty for a scarf! |

So many folks in the crafting community have been coming together to support the victims of Hurricane Sandy and participate in the relief efforts. We've seen so many knitwear designers, yarn companies, and craft mavens organizing the troops to create warm items and collecting donations over the last couple of weeks. As a result, we decided to create a resource guide so you would have just one place to look to find all of your options for giving back! If you are looking for a way to get involved, check out our blog post to peruse a list of designs (like this Winter Wedding design by one of our customers, Diane Edgerly, pictured here. 100% of proceeds are being donated to the Salvation Army!), yarn companies, and bloggers who are leading efforts.
Also, we know we may have missed some folks or organizations who should be on this list! If you'd like to add a link to the list, please leave a comment on the post with the link to where people can go for more info. We'd love for this to be a resource guide for all of the efforts the needle-arts and crafting community. Together, we can do our part to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy! |

Shevawn's Cowboy Cowl | As soon as Shevawn saw the Cowboy Cowl by Pam Powers, she immediately fell in love! She had so much fun knitting it up, and she loves how the shawl drapes over while the cowl keeps her warm and toasty. She says the pattern was indeed worth the price - easy to follow instructions all the way through! If she made this again, however, she would probably go down one needle size since she's pretty pretty short! :) She used Madelinetosh Tosh Merino in Antler! |
Terry's Beginner Socks for Women | The Knitting Pure & Simple Sock Pattern 9728 - Beginner Socks for Women pattern is one Terry has adapted to teach in all of her knitting 2 socks on 2 circulars class. In fact, she's knit these socks from this pattern too many times to count since it's the perfect first sock pattern for those wanting to learn or for those wanting a simple and fast knit. She knit these ankle high socks to wear in her hiking boots, but says that they are also great bed or slipper socks (the perfect holiday gift)! |
Jeanne's Brooklyn Ruffle Scarf | As soon as Katia's Brooklyn Yarn came through our doors, Jeanne was immediately fascinated with it. She grabbed a skein and went to Katia's website to watch their video tutorial. After she finished watching the video, she whipped up the scarf in no time! One skein makes one scarf and is a great gift! |
Jeanne's Top Down Lightweight Cardigan | Jeanne is a huge fan of Knitting Pure and Simple, so when the Top Down Lightweight Cardigan pattern was released, it immediately caught her eye. She added some lace detail to give it a little punch, as well as multiple small buttons for a little extra pop. Diane's patterns are so fun to use and clear cut that she has knitted quite a few of them and always has fun! She loves this sweater for layering and gets compliments on it every time she wears it! |
Terry's Ithcowl | Terry has been admiring the Cascade Eco Duo Yarn in the shop for a long time now but couldn't think of what to do with it. It is such an ever so soft, drapey and natural colored yarn. Then came our Secret Santa drawing and she drew Rachel's name. She immediately thought about how she wears shawls and cowls and how much knitters love to receive handknit items. Rachel also wears a lot of natural colors, so this was a perfect choice. Terry then went on Ravelry and found the Ithcowl by New York Minknit with a great explanation on how to make Mistake Rib in the round. It looks far more complicated than it really is! |
