Jimmy Beans Wool is now a proud supplier of Sweet Grass and Wolf
Creek Wools! This Montana-based company uses locally raised Targhee
Sheep and an all natural washing process for its delicious Mountain
Silk DK and Silk 2-ply yarns, both of which are under the Sweet
Grass Wools name. Use three to six skeins of the Mountain
Silk DK for an adorable Goodale
Cardigan from Winged Knits or five to seven on Indigirl's fantastic Ravinia
Cardigan . The Mountain
Silk 2-ply is great for accessories like Brooklyn
Tweed's Habitat beanie, which is what Leanne is making out of it. It's equally perfect for WestKnits Windschief hat. The result you'll get is a super plush fabric that
retains its natural beauty, shape, and strength over years and years
of wear. This super-soft wool, spun with a hint of silk and then hand
dyed, makes for a truly stunning yarn!
Sweet Grass's Wolf
Creek Wools yarns are equally scrumptious with their unique
fiber combinations. Wolf Creek Wools are the imported fiber side of
Sweet Grass Wools and are true treats for your fingers. The
Bliss
sock yarn is a delicious blend of superwash merino wool,
cashmere and nylon for extra strength. It's so soft and squishy on
your fingers and works great for all kinds of projects including the
adorable Candelia
Cardigan from Winged Knits or the Damson
Shawl by Ysolda Teague. The Luscious
lace weight yarn, a blend of alpaca and silk, would make a
gorgeous Celes
Wrap from Brooklyn Tweed or Featherweight
Cardigan by Knitbot with it's 650 yards of silky goodness!
You'll never want to put down your needles once you start knitting
with Sweet Grass Wools and Wolf Creek Wools yarns! |

We've been so excited about all of our latest yarns that we've let
some of our favorite designer patterns sneak by without much fuss!
Whoever your favorites are, listen up, because we've got plenty of
exciting new patterns and we want to share a few of our absolute
favorites with all of you!
We live in the high desert where temperatures can fluctuate a
lot, so we like to keep our eyes peeled for those perfect transition
patterns. We like the patterns below for their layering potential
and, of course, gorgeous style. Try snagging 10-16 skeins of Alpaca
Sportweight for the Primavera
Cardigan by Blue Sky Alpacas. Or, for something with a cable
challenge, try the Folk
Story Cardigan with seven to nine skeins of Spud
& Chloe Sweater . These patterns will help you make it
through the chilly transition time and these lines of yarn have each
come out with NEW colorways for the season! Of course, there are also plenty of lovely summer knits coming our
way! Check out the super light-weight Shibui
Mix No. 5, which is designed to be fabulously airy! Or, how about
the cute Kollage
Campari? The pattern and the Sock-a-licious color it uses are both
Stitch Red products, meaning
you're not just investing in a great summer piece, you're also
investing in a great cause! Not a knitter? This pattern comes with a
knit AND a crochet version! We have a little bit of baby fever going around the shop, with two
of our beans pregnant. Most of the rest of us are planning to knit or
crochet something for the wee ones. Among the options we're
considering are the Tweed
Baby Blanket by Jared Flood and the Snap
pattern by Cocoknits. Stay tuned to our Project
Log to see what we choose! Last, but not least, we have some absolutely lovely patterns for
the home. Churchmouse, a favorite for many of us at the shop, has
just come out with a collection of simple, attractive pieces like the
Crocheted
Baskets and a couple of styles of Tea
Cozies. We've also received a couple of extremely cute stuffed
animal knits from the talented Ysolda Teague. How precious! And where are the patterns for men? Well, those are on the way.
Our latest batch of new patterns was a little short on knits for men,
but we have managed to score a few great ones. Turtleneck
Sweater pattern by Bergere de France and Spud & Chloe's
Jersey
Pullover are some of our favorites.
This is just a small sampling of the latest designs! Be sure to
check out all the most recent pieces by these wonderful designers and
stay current with the latest
patterns. Looking for help choosing the right yarn for any of these
patterns? Give us a call! We're happy to offer suggestions! |

Kristen's Anna Cowl | This was the cowl that Kristen knit for the Swan's Island KAL . This beautiful cowl is the Anna Cowl
pattern from Swans Island. It took a little more than one skein of the Swans Island Worsted Yarn --there was enough left over to make a hat to go with it!
She knit this cowl in the Garnet color on her favorite Knitter's Pride Dreamz
circular needles and when all was said and done, it was a pretty quick knit! The 100% organic merino wool is super soft and squishy to work with and resulted in an absolutely gorgeous cowl! |
Kristen's Gretel Tam | This pretty cabled tam was knit in Debbie Bliss Luxury Tweed and is the size Medium version of Ysolda Teague's Gretel Tam from Debbie Stoller's Superstar Knitting (This pattern is also available on Ravelry and Ysolda's Website.)
This hat has just the right amount of slouch to it and is soft and stylish to wear. According to Kristen, the Luxury Tweed was really nice to knit with and the hat would look stunning in any color! She also said that this pattern was a super fun knit that was interesting without being too tough. The pattern is well written and easy to follow. A great intro to cabling! |
Bethany's 'New In Town' Baby Sweater | Not only is Bethany expecting a little one of her own, but she has several friends who are also pregnant! What better time then to whip up a bunch of these cute little baby sweaters out of a nice, machine washable wool?
Bethany chose to knit the New In Town pattern from Spud and Chloe in Cascade 128 Superwash (in Green Apple, Pumpkin, and Camel), which is slightly lighter than the yarn used in the orignal pattern (Spud and Cloe Outer), but she adjusted the gauge a bit to make it work. She is a super loose knitter, so she knit these on a US size 9 needle, but she would recommend a US size 10 for most people with average gauge. She knit the largest size, and ended up with a sweater that is approximately a 12-18 month size.
We think these little sweaters turned out adorable and can't wait to meet the little one who is going to wear them! |
Jeanne's Sheep Heid Hat | Jeanne, Sandy and Alli each knit this hat at the same time. They special ordered the yarn from Scotland and split it 3 ways. The hats came out just darling! The design is Sheep Heid by Kate Davies of Textisles.
Jeanne says: 'This pattern was really a fun knit and I think it helped that I laid out all the colors in advance on a card. l also labeled all the little plastic bags with color name and number. I love, love, love my hat...baaaaa!'
See Alli's Sheep Heid Hat Project for an alternative yarn suggestion. |
Shevawn's Rustling Leaves Beret | In Shevawn's words: 'Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I loved every minute knitting this hat...from the lovely hand of Tosh Sock **soooo soft and lovely** to the incredible interlocking leaf work of the pattern. The chart work was easy (it's written out, too) - the most difficult part was handing it over to the intended recipient after I was done! The good news is that I think I'll be able to squeeze out two hats out of one hank of Tosh Sock! woo-hoo!'
This hat is called the Rustling Leaves Beret and it was designed by Alana Dakos of Never Not Knitting for the Coastal Knits book.
|
Erika's Parisian Slouch Hat Pattern | Erika saw this easy and free hat pattern on Ravelry and had to knit it as an excuse to try out Red Heart's new Boutique Midnight
yarn! She says: 'It is nice yarn for a hat, because of the sparkle but it feels softer before knitting with it. It is a bit scratchy when knit up.'
Either way, she was still happy with the result and we think it turned out pretty cute! |
