We interrupt this bi-weekly broadcast to bring you some very important news...We've moved!!
Yep - you heard right. We've moved to a brand new location! After loads of planning, sorting, packing, lifting, (not to mention five pounds of coffee between all of us) we are now officially settled into our new spot. We want to apologize to many a customer who has showed up at our old door since then - it was really hard to get the word out there. We hope that the gorgeous storefront Terry and the awesome retail team set up will make up for any inconvenience the move may have caused. Next time you stop in, be sure to let them know how you like it! To our lovely online customers, please note our new address for any future returns, broken needle exchanges, or kind regards in the form of homemade cookies and silly postcards. :)

Fall weddings always seem to really capture the feeling of autumn and Kristen's late September wedding last year was no exception. Our September 2011 Lorna's Laces Limited Edition color, Rustic Wedding, is a beautiful homage to Kristen and her husband Nick's special day. What a fun way to celebrate their first anniversary as a married couple! For those who don't know, Kristen is one of our awesome Customer Service team members and also helps with many of our social media projects, including many of the video reviews and instructionals you see on our site.
Kristen was busy as a bee planning her DIY wedding when she came back to work for Jimmy Beans last fall and has been dying to create a 'wedding' LLE color ever since. Her own wedding was held at an old ranch-turned-summer camp which boasts acres of forests and meadows, as well as stunning views of the surrounding mountain ranges. All of the decorations were nature and ranch inspired, right down to the cowboy boots that Kristen and her bridesmaids wore. Almost every aspect of the wedding was handmade, including her veil and the homemade jam that the couple made to give to all of their wedding guests. A lot of love and intention went into making their day a reflection of their personalities (just like our own handmade gifts).
Here is what Kristen had to say about her inspiration for the color: "We really wanted to take advantage of our beautiful surroundings, and used that to inspire our wedding theme. The ranch sits on 1,700 acres of Jeffrey Pine forest at the northernmost end
of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It's simply stunning. We settled on chocolate
brown - the color of the pine cones scattering the forest floor, various shades of orange -
the color of my favorite gerbera daisies and desert paintbrush, chartreuse green - the
color of my favorite button mums, and, last but not least, cream - for the dahlias that adorned my
bouquet and veil."
We think Kristen and Nick's beautiful day was captured perfectly by the folks over at
Lorna's and it's the ideal color to ring in new beginnings - whether in the form of a marriage or simply the start of fall! We hope you'll join us in
celebrating the change of the seasons, as well as one of our "Little Bean's" first wedding
anniversaries. They say that paper is the appropriate "1st Anniversary gift." In
Kristen and Nick's case, it's wool! For more pictures and the full story on Kristen's gorgeous country-style wedding, check out her blog here!
Love is in the air! Another one of our "little Beans", Amber, is getting ready to get hitched later this month. We wish her and her handsome beau the very best and for a most beautiful day! :) Stay tuned for her own wedding tale! Have your own handmade wedding story? We'd love to hear what you did for your special day and, of course, see the pictures! E-mail info[at]JimmyBeansWool.com!

We have some new yarns, colors, and things to update you on. We hope you find these helpful for your next project!
Ysolda Teague Patterns - Veyla $6.00
|
Nothing says romance quite like these Veyla mitts by Ysolda Teague. In fact, it's a pattern we all can't quite get out of our heads. It's feminine, sexy, delicate...and it keeps your hands warm. What more could a girl ask for? Every time I try on the pair that Jeanne knit up (she's already finished hers - man, she's fast!), I feel like some mysterious Parisian woman sipping a cappuccino in a cafe. I've been thinking about modifying the pattern to repeat the lace cuff all the way to the elbow for an elegant Breakfast at Tiffany's feel - knitting them up in Rustic Wedding, of course. I've also seen these fantastic mitts in both the long fingered and full mitts versions - both are equally as beautiful!
|
Jim Knopf Shell Buttons - Etched Shell $2.50
|
The perfect accompaniment to any dainty pair of mitts is a good button, and we just adore the latest ones from Lantern Moon, the Etched Shell Buttons by Jim Knopf! The mesmerizing sheen will dress up any knitted garment while the two sizes allow for a good range of options. Going for something a bit more casual? Check out the funky Guinea Feather buttons or the to-die-for Lace Laser Shells! There's nothing quite like a great button to provide the finishing touches on a knitted piece - it can really make or break the overall effect!
|
 Lantern Moon Olivia Lite $56.00
|
A bag for all seasons, Lantern Moon's Olivia Lite has already proven itself to be an instant hit! Of course, once you pick one of these beauties up for yourself, you'll see why! Ultra-lightweight (it's made of parachute nylon material) but roomy enough to fit whatever you need (knitting projects, school books, make-up, groceries, mini poodles...). These trendy bags are casual enough for a day-trip to the mall but dressy enough to attend a wedding! I also love the fact that the fabric is sturdy enough to prevent my pesky needles from sticking through all over the place!! :)
|
 Rebecca Burgess Harvesting Color $22.95
|
Plant enthusiasts and hand-dyed devotees alike will fall head over heels in love with Rebecca Burgess' Harvesting Color book - we know we did! We also know that September is a busy time for all - the gardens need pickin', school is back in session, and - for some - holiday knitting is well under way...who has time to dye their own yarn? Well, this book transforms the somewhat overwhelming task of learning a new skill into an activity you can share with children and knitting groups alike, all done in one Saturday afternoon. Think ty-dy but in yarn! What's really nifty is that you'll be able to harvest most of the plants you need on your morning walk!
|
 Anne Merrow Knitted Lace $24.95
|
After all of this talk of weddings, my head is just swimming in lace. It's a good thing Interweave's latest publication, Knitted Lace, is here in the shop to satisfy my yarn over cravings! This delightful page-turner of a book is full of lacy designs that have repeatedly stood the test of time. Take, for example, the jaw-dropping Facing Lilies Stole or the fanciful Swallowtail Shawl. Each design seems to be better than the last - how can you not love these Rowan Pure Wool Lace Stockings? Swoon! Or, how about grabbing a skein of Helen's Lace in Rustic Wedding for the exquisite Fountain Pen Shawl?

Berroco Fall Collection 2011
I feel as if I've died and gone to rustic cabled heaven with Norah Gaughan's latest masterpiece, Norah Gaughan - Vol. 9 pattern book. Warm and cozy wraps such as the Tavis Cowl, woodland gothic-inspired pullovers such as the Gullveig, and chunky interwoven cablings such as the Aeneas define the work that you'll find within these magical pages and are really just a small sampling! We can't stop gushing about these designs - this is one of those pattern books that make you wish there were more hours in the day. Using your favorite Berroco yarns, you'll find plenty of knitspiration for your next project...and then some!
Besides releasing the latest Norah book, Berroco has come up with a fantastic array of brand new yarns that we're more than happy to introduce to you!
Who doesn't enjoy a little sparkle in their life? Accompanying their already popular Glint and Flicker yarns, Berroco has released a few new shimmery yarns that will be sure to catch your eye. The thick and thin nature of the single-ply Boboli provides a lovely glimmery variation throughout any knitted garment and with over 200 yards per skein, you can take this yarn far on a US size 5 to 7 needle. The true wonder of Boboli, however, is the color selection! The magnificent color blends combine with a fascinating sheen to make each skein unique, bright and beautiful.
Or, how about trying the 'glitterized' version of a classic favorite, Blackstone Tweed. This is the same exquisite Wool, Superkid Mohair, Angora, and Tweed blend that you've grown to love...but with an added twist! Blackstone Tweed Metallic blends the rustic style of tweed with a hint of glitter. A few strands woven into each ball provide a spectacular sparkle to already vibrant colors! Take tweed to a whole new level with this new soft, sparkling version! Kristen nabbed two balls up as soon as this yarn arrived and is working on a gorgeous cowl - be sure to check the project log for more details!
Ultra soft, super fine alpaca makes the new Voyage a squishy, soft addition to our Berroco collection! The lightweight chainette construction adds a spring-like stretch while lovely heathered shades provide texture to even a simple stockinette work. Check out the color selection and try one out for a cozy, warm sweater this fall! We're sure that you'll love it so much, it will soon become a staple in your stash! In fact, one of our little Beans admired this yarn so much, she bought an entire bag to take with her to study in China for the semester! Talk about love at first sight! :)
The latest knitting trend for the season is all about pairings and Berroco is having a blast combining Voyage with the plush Nanuk yarn. If you're looking for the skin-to-skein softness that makes you want to cuddle up with your knitted work, Nanuk has you covered! Grouped in our "Bulky" category, this wool and nylon blend is intended to be used with a US size 10.5 needle, but the looseness of the texture allows for some flexibility in needle sizes. The eyelash-like design makes it ideal for eye-catching trim and edging, or with it's lush softness it can easily stand alone.
The challenge of detailed lace projects can be extremely satisfying and all, but for the knitter and crocheter on the go, sometimes we all just need a bit of instant gratification! Our last two new yarns by Berroco will be sure to pack a punch for any last-minute project. Like the best souffles, the aptly named Souffle yarn is both light and delicious. No, I don't recommend tasting it, but when you're cooking up your next project that requires super bulky yarn, a few skeins of this deliciously soft Acrylic, Wool, and Baby Alpaca blend will add the self-striping spice that will really make your project pop. Each colorway is an artful blend of shades your eyes will appreciate, while the chainette construction adds an airy feel. With some US size 17 needles, this is a Souffle that will cook up quickly!
Looking for something even quicker? Link, a 'super-duper bulky' yarn, is actually a pre-knit I-cord. We've been joking around here that in about five stitches you're done! Alright, maybe it's not that fast, but on a US size 35-50 needle, Link will knit up (or crochet) in no time! As an added bonus, the label on each skein comes with an easy scarf pattern (see below for the Wink Scarf) for those last minute gifts, and with the already impressive look of this yarn, it will look like you spent weeks on it!
Nab some super bulky goodness at a super trim price on Wool Watcher! That's right - we'll be posting up skeins of both Link and Souffle next Monday, September 12th. Start your week right by trying out our latest Berroco yarns at an affordable price!

What's New from Plymouth?
Our East Coast companies just keep cranking out brand new yarn for Fall and we just couldn't resist these new goodies from Plymouth!
Although it sounds like some sort of fancy perfume, DeAire takes bulky yarn to the next level with its cushy comfy hand. This 100% fine Merino Wool yarn boasts a generous 109 yards per skein so you'll only need 1-2 hanks for a cowl, hat, or scarf! I've been tempted to splurge and knit Brooklyn Tweed's Umaro blanket out of this yarn! Talk about sleeping in a cloud! Of course, Plymouth has a great array of their own patterns to support this yarn, like this lacy Circle Shrug (love the collar!), the cozy Woman's Jacket, or the easy-peasy Buttoned Hat and Mittens set!
Bazinga is another squishy, bulky weight yarn but with plenty of unique self-striping properties for those looking for something with a bit of "Zing!" This gorgeous Wool/Acyrlic blend shifts between solid colors to more striated blends which creates interesting depth to each stripe! This is a yarn you won't want to put down! The Women's Vest or Rounded Jacket patterns really show off what this yarn can do in terms of color, style and strength!
Due to an overwhelming demand, Plymouth has also released a lighter-weight version of their popular Worsted Merino Superwash yarn. DK Merino Superwash will fit your gauge AND machine washing needs. Knit up on a US 6 needle, this workhorse of a yarn has everything you need for a dependable go-to fiber with great stitch definition. Try it out by knitting up Plymouth's Ruffled Edge Cardigan or the lovely Lace Panel Pullover. Looking for a great knit for men? Plymouth has also released this stylish Cabled Pullover pattern, perfect for a dk-weight knit!
We're also very excited to announce that we've started to carry Plymouth's needle line, including circulars, double points, and long double points! These handy needles are fantastic through and through - from the affordable price to the pointy bamboo tips. Use these needles to knit super fine all the way super bulky yarn!
Try out these bulky yarns from Plymouth at a low price! We'll be serving up both DeAire and Bazinga on Wool Watcher this week! Watch for the lovely chainette DeAire yarn on Thursday (September 8th) and the colorful Bazinga to follow on Friday (September 9th)!

Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock Sugar Maple Shawl From $96.00 to $198.99
|
I've been tempted to create my own list of Interweave Crochet's best lace designs and the Sugar Maple shawl would definitely make it to the top five. From last year's Fall issue of Interweave Crochet, this shawl is fashionable, cozy, and will be the perfect transitional piece for cooler weather! How gorgeous would this shawl look in the September color, Rustic Wedding? I have a few fall weddings to attend and this shawl would be the ideal accessory! Or, how about trying the same pattern in Solemate for a shawl that regulates your body temperature so you can wear this number for any wedding, whether it's set in the fall or springtime!
Fun fact: This design is inspired by the traditional clothing of the Faroe Islands (in the Norwegian Sea) where knitting is a "traditional handicraft" (at least as far as wikipedia goes). Who knew?

We have a few more crochet items that we thought you might be interested in!
Jean Leinhauser & Rita Weiss Crochet Master Class $22.99
|
Sandy was happy as a clam when Crochet Master Class arrived to our door - she's been borrowing it from the library for years! You'll not only find time-honored techniques like Hairpin Lace and double-post stitches within these colorful pages, but you'll also discover the wonderful world of experimental "free-form" crochet techniques! There certainly won't be a dull moment for the crocheter and fiber-artist looking to think outside the box. This tremendous showcase of fiber artists at work will not only inspire but teach you how to be on your way to becoming the crochet-jedi master you were meant to be. May the Hook be with you!
|
 Berroco Link Gureipu Scarf $29.00.
|
Only one skein of Berroco's latest yarn Link will make this super-bulky scarf that will leave your friends speechless. This pre-knit I-cord yarn will be easy as pie to crochet up and quick enough to finish in one evening with a little bit of dedication. Plus, the pattern is free on Berroco's website - what could be better? Choose from the gorgeous color blends, grab a HUGE hook of your choice, and go at it! Link will turn into your go-to yarn for fast approaching deadline projects and chunky cozy accessories.

We're going to Interweave Knitting Lab (four days of classes and lectures by knitting greats like Alice Starmore and Barbara Walker...say no more)! After the initial period of ecstatic jumping up and down like the knitting fanatics we are, we got around to brainstorming on what exactly we wanted to have at our booth...and, of course, it's you! If you're on your way to Knitting Lab (or still considering!), we'd like to invite you to come on down to our booth to visit, shop, and...be a star! We're in the midst of celebrating our 1,000th video mark and like to invite you to join in on the fun!
|
I can't believe that we've filmed over 1,000 product reviews and instructional videos...but we've realized that our favorite ones are those filmed with our customers and friends. So, bring your cherished project, a favorite yarn, or a friend (how 'bout all three?) to rant and rave, share the new technique you learned from Barbara Walker in class earlier, or just to show and tell! Sign up in advance and film three or more videos at our booth (#'s 15 and 16!) during Knitting Lab and get the 20% off "employee discount" during the show - as our way of saying thanks for being part of the JBW Family!
|
We'll be putting the videos up on our website and on youtube - you'll be famous (like Andy Warhol said, everyone deserves their 15 minutes of fame)!
