We had an overwhelming response to our "good versus evil" poll on our blog for this month's Limited Edition color. Although it was an extremely close race, it looks like evil came up one step ahead. This month's wickedly gorgeous color, He Who Must Not Be Named, is the winner with its bewitching blend of gloomy grays, treacherous teals, and chilling chartreuse. There are quite a few Beans here in the shop who are very excited about this color way. One Bean, in particular, was almost beside herself when she found out we would be carrying a Harry inspired color and immediately went to town on professing her love in a blog post a few weeks past. It was just too good not to include in this month's newsletter! Thanks, Ailene!
"For over a decade, there has been an obsession with the world JK Rowling created through a boy named Harry Potter. I remember reading the first Harry Potter book at age 10 and finishing within two days. I fell in love. Each book led me closer to the fate of The Boy Who Lived and He Who Must Not Be Named. The midnight release of book seven (Ailene - age 18) led to an all-nighter that finally resolved the conflict between The Chosen One and The Dark Lord. I was left with a feeling of awe that I had the privilege of sharing this magical world for so long...and sad that such a big chapter of my admittedly nerdy life was really closed.
I am now 22 and still in love with the world of wizards and Muggles. I sometimes still long for that owl from Hogwarts to let me know that I am indeed a wizard, or that I had a Time Turner to get through all my studying. But alas, I am but a college girl (who finds no hardship in finding magic again and again with each rereading of the series). And, now, Jimmy Beans has finally embraced the madness of this magic!! So, naturally, my fellow Beans and I are excited to bring July's Limited Edition Color, He Who Must Not Be Named, to you!"
One of our other Beans, Sharon, already knit up a cowl with one hank of Lion and Lamb so now we're able to show off what this color can do! See how this fantastic color knits up on our project log here!

Shepherd Sock Sorting Hat Kit
 Sorting Hat Kit $92.00
We just couldn't resist releasing even more Harry Potter inspired colors (mostly because we wanted some in our own stash as well) and so we are proudly offering limited dyelots of the four Hogwarts' House colors named after their house mottos. Bravery for "Gryffindor", Ambition for "Slytherin", Intelligence for "Ravenclaw", and Loyalty for "Hufflepuff". Whether you just like the color pairings or you're fond of a particular House, go ahead and choose your favorite! Can't decide? Go with our Sorting Hat Kit which will give you the option for all four colors or all four colors plus a skein of He Who Must Not Be Named!
You might notice that all of our House sock colors read "Ships 7/15" since we sold out the very first day they were available! Of course, that is mostly due to the fact that all of our Beans were snatching up all they could - being the diehard Harry fans that they are. I will admit I also did my part by grabbing some skeins of Bravery! However, many more are on their way to us now and will be here shortly!

If Harry Potter inspired colors aren't enough to satisfy your Lorna's craving, these brand new colors for the Fall Season are sure to fill in the blanks. Named after landmarks of their bustling city, Chicago, these new colors will take you on an exciting metropolitan tour around the Windy City.
Shepherd Sock - Buckingham Fountain $23.00
The first color of the collection is Buckingham Fountain, named after one of the largest fountains in the world and found in Grant Park! This gorgeous semi-solid features a subtle blend of gunmetal greys. The Highness Socks, created by Ravelry designer, Glenna C. shows off this color so well, don't you think? So pretty!

Shepherd Sock - Grant Park $23.00
Speaking of Grant Park, the next color on our tour is a lovely green blend, named after that big urban park nestled in Chicago's downtown area. This refreshing range of light greens with just a dash of patina makes for a color that will brighten up any knitting season! These Everybody Wants Sox pair, knit out of Grant Park, are from HeartStrings Fiber Arts!

Shepherd Sock - Lincoln Park Zoo $23.00
Usually not the one to be attracted towards pinks, I can't help but fall in love with Lincoln Park Zoo, named after one of the oldest zoos in the United States (and it's free)! The delicious honeysuckle blend of pinks reminds me of the flamingos I used to watch at the San Diego Zoo, always wondering how they stood on one leg for hours on end! These lovely geometric socks designed by Jeannine Cartmel give you an idea of how this whimsical color looks knit up! *This pattern will be released soon!*

Shepherd Sock - Magnificent Mile $23.00
Magnificent Mile is an exquisite buttery yellow that's oh so sophisticated and clean. Robyn Chacula, of Baby Blueprint Crochet, designed this crocheted cardigan (to be released soon) to show off what this color can do! "The Mag. Mile" - for those who've never visited - is a very popular residential and commercial thoroughfare housing several of Chicago's famous landmarks, tallest buildings, and the best shopping around!

Shepherd Sock - Navy Pier $23.00
Next up is the dreamy nautical color, Navy Pier. It's a wonderful mix of oceanic blues and sea greens. The actual Navy Pier in Chicago seems like a great place to visit for the day - from riding the ferris wheel to taking a dinner cruise on Lake Michigan! Lorena Haldeman designed these cozy "Baba Yaga Socks" in which you can see how these blues play on one other in awesome striping patterns!

 Shepherd Sock - The "L" $23.00
Every city has a fantastic public transportation system and The "L" is Chicago's. This bodacious blend of deep burgundy and wine is certainly a soothing color for long commutes. It makes me want to curl up into this simple yet classic Division Pullover, designed by Amy Christoffers from Savory Knitting. Savory, indeed!

Shepherd Sock - The Outer Drive $23.00
The Outer Drive is another aquatic color, with delicate aquamarines and subtle steel greys. Inspired by "Lake Shore Drive", a freeway that runs along Lake Michigan, this classy color blend perfectly mirrors the feeling of driving with the windows down along a coastal highway. Judy Sumner's Oh So Beautiful Socks certainly do justice to this whimsical color with a wonderful wave patterning.

Shepherd Sock - The Skyway $23.00
A rich blend of dark forest greens makes up the luscious Skyway color. Yum, yum, yum! This color, inspired by the Chicago toll road that spans the Calumet River, knits up just beautifully as Indigirl's Amy Swenson shows in her latest design, Asking for Roses Shawl. The shawl requires only two skeins of Shepherd Sport and boasts a wonderful lace edging. Always a sucker for literary references, I thought it was neat that she named this shawl after a Robert Frost poem. :)

Shepherd Sock - The Bean $23.00
Last but certainly not least is The Bean. Now, "the Bean" is named after a particularly interesting public art sculpture named "Cloud Gate" (better known as "the Bean" after its shape). With neutral latte tans and hints of silver, this blend is a chic and dashing color for stylish socks, elegant cardis, and pleasing shawls. Unfortunately, we are still waiting on the last installment of the "Chicago Tour" on Lorna's Laces blog so we couldn't obtain a picture of the Bean knitted up. But, hey, isn't the surprise half of the fun, anyway? :)
All of these new colors are available in the following weights: Helen's Lace, Shepherd Sock, Shepherd Sport, and Shepherd Worsted. We will also be receiving Lorna's latest yarn, Solemate, dyed in these colors very soon. Pre-order yours today!

 Boye Bloom Loom $4.27
Two designs from the latest Vogue inspired us to start carrying this nifty notion. The Bloom Loom is a quick and easy way to make flowers for embellishment pieces on garments and bags while taking out the sometimes daunting nature of knitting or crocheting them - especially when you want to use multiple colors. The Bloom Loom includes everything you need to start weaving your own decorative flowers - the actual loom, instructions, and a plastic darning needle. Stay tuned on our instructional page as we will be adding a video on how to use these very soon!

Tahki Stacy Charles Yolanda Shawl Kit Kits - 01 Milky Way $75.00
I admit I was a little hesitant at first to appreciate the 'glitter craze' that's lately been sweeping the fiber world, but with so many pretty designs and innovative combinations, I've been lining my stash with more and more of it. I've been itching to nab the Yolanda Shawl Kit, a package that contains enough yarn to make the pattern also included. What really entices me about this kit is that it uses three different types of yarn, combined to achieve a truly dramatic yet classy effect. Luna provides the silky halo, Crystal strings tiny sequins throughout, and Stella ties it all together with drape and shine.
Hearth & Forge Shawl Pins - Custom Heart Shawl Pin $40.00
I'm really excited that we've started to carry these Hearth and Forge Shawl Pins again as they are hand made with love and care by a very good friend of JBW! Created in the image of an ancient Celtic brooch design, the pins are attached to the circle so shawls and garments don't come loose and you won't have to worry about losing pieces when put away. These pins will make any handknit shawl or garment a bit more special and will certainly make for an heirloom piece you'll be handing down to your grandchildren. Plus, you're supporting a indie silversmith. How cool is that?!
 Isager Alpaca 1 Yarn $11.00
This fingering weight companion to Isager's Alpaca 2 has the same lovely softness, texture, and color palette as its alpaca sister. Alpaca 1 is a 100% alpaca yarn that is oh so sumptuous to the touch and will work great for just about any lightweight piece such as shawls, fingering weight cardis and lace berets. Grab a US 1-2 needle and go to town!
Try out this wonderful lace yarn at a fantastic price! We'll be offering a few balls of this yarn on Wool Watcher on July 12th (Tuesday) so be sure to be on the look-out!

We're currently revamping our instructional page and are on a mission!

We've set out to film even more crochet instructional videos for all of your happy hookers out there! In this particular video, Leanne shows you that even crocheters can enjoy ruffle yarn in How to Crochet with Ruffle Yarn! Or, check out how to do a front post double crochet with Sandy. Plus, more still to come, including an instructional on how to do a spike stitch and a three-part series on how to crochet a hat without a pattern!

We are always taking suggestions! If you have a specific video that you'd like to see, please don't hesitate to let us know. We are always looking for new stitches to learn and fiber techniques to master. :) E-mail support@jimmybeanswool.com with your comments and suggestions!

Jim Knopf Shell Buttons Sheep $3.20
Show off your love for wool with these delicate hand-carved buttons, distributed by Lantern Moon! Giving sway to the age-old expression "cute as a button", these adorable sheep buttons from Jim Knopf are, well, "cute as a button"! Carved from agoya shell, these elegant buttons are the perfect 'piece de resistance' for your finished garment. The agoya will shimmer against your fabric and the sheep outline is just too cute for words!
Christen Haden Creepy Cute Crochet Book $14.95
The perfect stash-bustin' book for the yarn hording crocheter! Creepy Cute Crochet, by Christen Haden, particularly caught my eye with its surprisingly wide range of amigurumi stuffed toy designs. Classic monster villains like vampires and skeletons, as well as more mythological/historical figures like Amazonian women and Spartans all get makeovers of fiber cuteness. Plus, Haden provides enough great templates and instruction to master the art of making your own amigurumi. How about using your scraps of He Who Must Not Be Named for an evil wizard? Better yet, make the entire Hogwarts crew!
Berroco Weekend Shrug From $48.00 to $54.00
I've got to hand it to Berroco with their weekly Knitbits. Each weekly pattern seems better than the last and I do appreciate the amount of crocheted designs that are thrown into the mix. This Weekend Shrug, for example, is the epitome of comfy! A classic long-sleeved design, this shrug is great for transitional weather and only requires 8-9 skeins. The acrylic and cotton Weekend yarn is an all-around great yarn to work with. Extremely versatile, Weekend keeps this shrug wearable, soft, and looking fantastic over tanks and strapless dresses!
Noni Patterns - Nomad Bag in Crochet $8.30
Crochet versions of some of the most popular Noni patterns are now available! There's more than enough smaller sized evening bags to fit all of your essentials for a night on the town like the Peony Little Purse and Petite Four Evening. What's really great about Noni patterns are that most patterns offer a variety of sizes to choose from like the Adventure Bags. So, choose the bag that will suit your needs the most and felt the night away!

Louisa Harding yarns always seem to exude that certain touch of elegance that always makes me think of pearls and English gardens. Our latest sale yarns, Mulberry and Fleuris, definitely attest to this notion. The DK-weight Mulberry is simply scrumptious. After all, it's 100% silk! At 136 yards per ball, this yarn will make for smooth and luxurious garments and accessories from shimmery shawls and pretty cowls to lightweight tanks and lacy fabrics. Also a yarn that will work up smooth and soft is Fleuris, a strong yet comfortable bamboo and wool blend. I'd love to knit up a pair of cabled fingerless mitts with this aran weight yarn or - better yet - a textured pullover.
