April's Limited Edition Color, Royal Wedding is our own little fiber tribute to the most popular wedding of the year between (yep, you guessed it!) Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Inspired by that stunning sapphire engagement ring William gave to Kate (the very same ring his father gave to Princess Diana), we've fallen head over heels in love with this impressive blend, truly fit for royalty.
Generally, I am not one to follow celebrity news, including that of the Royal Family. However, this color did bring me back to me fond memories of their grand ol' home, London. I had the chance to visit once in the summertime, many years ago, and this color led me to walk through its cobbled streets all over again. I felt like I was right back there, standing beside the River Thames, gazing up at that stunning royal church where the two are getting hitched, Westminster Abbey, with a clear blue sky overhead and, perhaps, with a pint of Boddingtons to boot!
Not only is the royal wedding a celebration for the newlyweds, (and all royal enthusiasts!) but it is also significant, due to the fact that this marriage will take place in the year 2011. Prince William planned this date intentionally, to honor the memory of his mother, Princess Diana, who would have turned 50 this year.
So, whether you're counting down the days until the wedding or you are just in love with the blend of this exquisite color-way, we hope you enjoy Royal Wedding. Containing a noble spectrum of intense blues, ranging everywhere from midnight starry blue and light royal blue to deep sky blue and powder blue, Royal Wedding is the perfect choice for an elegant queenly shawl, regal socks, or a dignified garment for your favorite princess or prince.
P.S. You might notice that we are at zero inventory for most of our Royal Wedding weights. This is not a belated April's Fools Joke and we are ordering more of every weight that is currently out. This color was so popular that it sold out in four days (I know...we're a bit overwhelmed, too)! So, please feel free to place your order for the next batch, which is on its way to us now. Orders for Royal Wedding will ship April 10th. Thank you in advance for your patience! :)

A Treasure Trove of Patterns
From Deep South Fibers, we have enough books and patterns from some of your favorite independent designers to keep you knitting for a lifetime, as well as give you some queenly inspiration for your "Royal Wedding" skeins.
First up is Royal Wedding in Stephen West, famous for his ultra-sleek and modern accessory designs that play with geometric shape and color and result in utterly gorgeous but easy to follow designs. Grab a skein of Shepherd Worsted to make his Windshief hat and cowl set or one hank of the Shepherd Sock for the Little Colonnade pattern. Still can't get enough? Sharon bought both of his books, Westknits Book 1 and Westknits Book 2, and is obsessing over each page as we speak!
If you're looking to make an exquisite and feminine garment out of your "Royal Wedding", look no further than Winged Knits, designed by the lovely and crafty Cecily Glowik Macdonald. From cute and sweet cardigans like Candelia to rustic cowled pullovers such as Idlewood, each design is better than the last! Grab 4-8 skeins of Royal Wedding in Shepherd Sport for the simple but classic Breakwater pullover or Goodale cardi!
The Shetland Trader patterns, designed by Gudrun Johnston, incorporate rich stylistic aspects of her Shetland heritage. I absolutely love the Kerrera cardigan, so comfy and stylish! Plus, only six skeins in Shepherd Worsted is required to knit up my size! Or, grab one skein of the Shepherd Sock to make the gorgeous Simmer Dim shawl. Be sure to check out her book collection, Book One, with photography by Jared Flood and an incredible array of gorgeous garments!
Our last featured designer is an absolutely adorable, whimsical gal, Ysolda Teague, whom you might know (yep-she's the "Ysolda" of the Lorna's Laces Color Commentary Ysolda Red). I would love to have a pair of the Veyla mitts in Helen's Lace. Or, what about a skein of the Honor for the Scroll Lace Scarf or two skeins of the Baby Me Boo to make up the cropped Liesl cardi? Oh my...I'm drooling all over myself just thinking about it. Ysolda's books, Whimsical Little Knits One and Two are full of hats, toys, and accessories, too!

Rowan Spring Summer 2011
The new spring and summer yarns and pattern books keep rolling in and we now have Rowan's entire Spring/Summer 2011 Collection in stock and ready to go!
First up is the deliciously shiny and soft Panama yarn. With a summery and light blend of viscose, cotton, and linen, this fingering weight yarn is good to go on a US 3 needle. With 148 yards per ball, a few balls are more than enough for a fantastic lacy shawl or grab a bag for a superb cardigan! Of course, there's more than enough pattern support from the Panama Collection book. Composed of 15 patterns, there's something for everyone, from light tops and long dresses to striped cardigans and lacy tunics.
Savannah is the other new springtime yarn from Rowan. A worsted-weight cotton and silk blend, you know this will be an ultra-soft and grogeous yarn for any summery knit. The pastel color palette is exquisite, mimicking the dry subtle shades of the desert, while the pattern support really shows how this yarn packs a punch! We've been having a difficult time keeping the Savannah Collection in stock but I'm sure you'll realize why! We can't help but love the relaxed wear and open worked stitches of these beautiful garments.
There's a plethora of top-notch Rowan books to showcase brand new colors of light-weight yarns that also came out this season. For the eco-conscious knitter, Purelife Classics and Amy Butler's River Camp Knits both offer an astonishing number of summery garments knit in natural and organic yarns.
While Summer Baby is a fantastic compilation of twenty timeless infant designs for newborns and children up to four years. Another favorite is Cotton Classics, an extraordinary showcase of sixteen lightweight knits for men and women with a catching eye for detail, geometric cabling, and lacy paneling.
Be on the look-out on Wool Watcher this Monday, April 11th, to snag some Panama at an amazing price!
