How to Pre-String Beads
Bead knitting may look like a job best left to the professionals, but like a lot of things, it's not as hard as it looks!
In this video Sandy demonstrates how to pre-string beads for beaded scarves, shawls and any other beaded
project you've been dying to knit!
1. Thread common sewing needle with thread.
2. Tie a knot using both ends of the thread.
3. Open the 2 threads and roll the knot half way up towards the needle.
4. Put the yarn through the loop that is created when you open the thread.
5. Make sure to have a long enough tail and load up the needle with a few beads sliding them down onto the yarn
6. Push them down on the yarn and pull them up as you need to place them.

New Nashua Yarns
Ta da! Introducing Creative Focus Bulky and Isabella, new from Nashua! These two fabulous fibers are of the quality and natural beauty we have come to expect from Nashua. The Bulky is a thick, wooly single ply available in a glorious palette of rich solids and is great for head-warming hats and cold-resistant sweaters. Lighter, with a silken tweedy texture, the worsted weight Isabella comes in heathery colorways and has plenty of yardage at just over 100 yards per 50 grams.
Intrigued but lacking project options? Take a look at the pattern booklets featuring Creative Focus Bulky and Isabella! For you fans of the Bulky, Fashion Outerwear is full of stylin' options for looking good and staying warm in frigid temperatures -like the unique urban appeal of the Chicago Sweater Jacket. The Isabella booklet also contains several sweater options for the cooler season as well as hats and fingerless gloves! And don't forget to take a peek at Day Into Night, a pattern booklet of new and elegant patterns featuring some of your old favorite fibers from Nashua (*hint hint* this book features some great patterns for Nashua yarns that will be on sale this weekend-just keep reading below)!

you can expect to see... We hope you'll join us this weekend - and that you'll bring lots of friends!

A superfine alpaca and wool blend from Araucania, Liwen is a splendiferous bulky weight yarn perfect for hats, scarves, sweaters -honestly anything you can think of to knit with this glorious fiber is going to be a great idea! |
You love knitting the vintage styling of Churchmouse Classics patterns for yourself and your friends and now you
can knit classically cute garments and accessories for your favorite tyke(s), too with designs from the Churchmouse Wee Ones Collection! One of the most adorable patterns has to be the Baby Wrap Sweater Pattern, a simple wrap cardi that can easily be modified to be more girly with ruffles or more boyish with sailor stripes! Knit up in a fingering weight yarn, we suggest Regia's World Ball Colors for easy and excellent stripes, or Plymouth's Happy Feet for its beautiful variegated colorways and machine washability!
|
 Plymouth Taria Tweed Yarn $15.00
|
I could rave about the Taria Tweed from Plymouth all day long-it is one of my new favorites! Not only is it squishy soft, the merino, llama, and silk blend comes in a smokin' array of rich, vibrant colors not traditionally considered tweed-worthy. Taria Tweed is a bulky yarn that has great stitch definition for those cable sweaters and cardigans that you're just itching to knit for this coming winter.
We'll be putting a few balls of this on the Wool Watcher on Monday, the 18th!
|
 Regia Flusi Yarn $7.50
|
Lots of fun stuff just in from Regia! A cornucopia of exciting yarns and patterns books have just arrived in plenty time to get your knit and crochet on this winter season. By far the cutest is Flusi in the Snow, a combination of a children's storybook and sock pattern starring Flusi and friends! New Flusi colors are here, too, which come in an array of bright color combos that match characters from the book! One ball easily makes a pair of child size socks and two will furnish a larger pair for adults who also appreciate the fabulous Flusi colorways!

Here's a sampling of our handiwork this month... !!
Mary's Goblin Socks | Mary is one of our favorite sock knitter's around here and boy she didn't let us down this time!! These are AMAZING socks and she used our October 2010 Lorna's Laces Limited Edition color Goblin to work them up with! We will be getting you the pattern information shortly and I am sure it is one of her own, as she is a fantastic sock designer! |
Hydrangea Neckwarmer | When the book Brave New Knits came into the shop we all went a little knit-crazy (as if we weren't already). There isn't much in this book that we don't want to work up. Julie Turjoman, the author, is one of Sandy's knitting buddies so she was the first to attack a project from this book. She is also a fan of Anne Hanson, so the Hydrangea Neckwarmer was a no brainer! She used Louisa Harding's Grace yarn, but recommends considering the Debbie Bliss Andes. What's that Sandy? You are going to do it again for me and use the Andes? |
The Orchid Thief Shawlette | Brave New Knits by Julie Turjoman is taking the shop by storm and Sandy is of course working furiously on the Orchid Leaf Shawlette! It is such a lovely pattern and we can't wait to see it finished, so knit faster Sandy...ha ha! She is using exactly what the pattern calls for which is the luscious Malabrigo Sock yarn. Now of course knitter see, knitter do and Jeanne will be casting this one on real soon too! Sandy says the pattern is amazing, but of course how can you go wrong when it's by Ysolda Teague? |
Harlequin Coat | One of our favorite in store customers, Zana, came in for show and tell and we all got so excited over her Harlequin Swagger from the book Swing Swagger Drape, it is absolutely gorgeous!! She used Fleece Artist's beautiful Sea Wool and don't you think it turned out wonderfully? She said the pattern was a breeze to work up and recommends it highly. She knit up the large and was very impressed with the shaping which uses needle size changes. We can't wait to see what she knits up next...way to Zana! Thanks for sharing this with us! |
