Do you have a copy of the Magic Loop booklet, but are having trouble visualizing how to even get started?
If so, don't worry... we've all been there. The Magic Loop is a terrific alternative to double points, but can take awhile to get the hang of -
so we put this video together in hopes of bringing life to this fabulous (and altogether ingenious) technique.
1. Using the long tail cast-on, cast on the required number of stitches (in our video, Jeanne casts on 20 total stitches)
2. Once the stitches are cast on, pull the stitches down onto the soft cable part of the needle and count to the halfway point. In our example, Jeanne cast on 20 sts and will be dividing her stitches into 2 groups of 10.
3. Divide the stitches into 2 parts, gently bend the cord, and pull the cord up through the halfway point: you'll now have 10 stitches on one half of the cord/needle and 10 stitches on the other half.
4. Put your stitches in the "home position": the goal is to move both sets of 10 stitches towards the tips of the needles. You'll end up with 10 sts on one needle and the other 10 stitches on the 2nd needle. You can do this by pulling on the cord (while holding onto the stitches) and/or pulling on both sets of stitches (while holding onto the cord).
5. Once the stitches are "home", you'll always want to use the back needle as the working needle (the one used by your right hand)- and needle that is closest to you will be the one holding the stitches that will be worked (for me, that's the needle that will be in my left hand).
6. Pull on the back needle ... enough so that those 10 stitches eventually rest on the cable, not on the needle. (Notice that your working yarn is coming from the back.)
7. Using that back needle, start knitting onto the 10 stitches from the front needle! Be careful not to knit with the tail!
8. Knit as you normally would and then when you get to the end of the first 10 stitches, gently pull on the cord and move both sets of stitches to the home position.
9. Flip your work around, so that the points of the needles are facing your right hand - and then repeat steps 6-8.
10. Continue repeating steps 6-9 for the length of the cuff.
p.s. We think it is a good idea to snug up the first stitches (between the last and the first stitch) so you don't get ladders appearing!
Hopefully this video has served as a companion to the The Magic Loop Booklet and will help you get started.
Watching it (and writing about it) has made me anxious to knit with some of that Tosh Dk that arrived a few weeks ago.
Doug has been requesting a pair of slightly thicker socks, so the Dk should be perfect. Perhaps in the Fig or Ginger?
Of course, i do love the Zauberball too...maybe he won't mind if they are sock weight....hmmm...

Mosco Cardigan
Schulana Mosco Fisherman's Rib Cardigan Was $107.40 to $137.26 Now from $85.92 to $112.20 (up to 20% off!)
|
This sleek cardigan is pure perfection, whether paired with a party dress or blue jeans. The pattern is from
Schulana Crealana 25 Fall 2009 and would be a great compliment to a summer wedding/party dress...
Haven't heard of Schulana Mosco before? It's not just for sweaters... this classic yarn has high shine, great drape, and dual tones.
If you're not in the mood to knit an entire sweater (or would simple prefer to crochet something), you
use a few balls to create a luxurious shawl - or mix it with the Schulana Kid Seta for a pair of fingerless gloves or
this new party bag from Noni Designs.

Amy Butler!
Well, the word on the street is that this new
Amy Butler collection from Rowan is going to be the hottest thing to hit the knitting streets this year!!
Stunningly simply, Amy has infused her signature palette into two of Rowan's new yarns:
Belle Organic Dk
and Belle Organic Aran.
Both Belles are made from an environmentally friendly combo of Organic Wool and Organic Wool -
and are suprisingly affordable at $8.95 per ball.
And if you're an Amy Butler fan (who isn't?!), you're going to love flipping through the pages of
her latest creation, the pattern book
Midwest Modern Knits.
Here are a few of our fav projects from the book... enjoy!

Spotlight on Be Sweet
Be Sweet is a company that carries great products and does it with heart. The owner of Be Sweet, Nadine Curtis,
started this company while she lived in South Africa in 2003 and the many of the Be Sweet products are made by the women of the Xhosa tribe.
If you're not familiar with Be Sweet, here's bit more info: the company works with several job creation programs in
South Africa providing local artisans in economically depressed regions (mostly women) with the means of supporting themselves and
their families while learning marketable job and trade skills in a positive working environment and earning a fair wage.
The participants are responsible for making all of the mohair, bamboo and organic cotton yarns which are sold in
shops and boutiques all over the world!
Here at Jimmy Beans we currently carry their
Bambino Taffy,
Magic Ball and
Extra Fine Mohair.
And what are we doing with these yarns, you ask?! Well, Jeanne immediately snapped up several balls of the Mohair and started knitting the
Be Sweet Diagonal Striped Shawl...(this yarn sports a boucle texture and can be tricky
to knit with at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is smooth sailing with spectacular results)!
Laura just finished a hat for Huck in the Bambino Taffy, a self-striping yarn that comes in 5 colors per
skein as well as a free pattern for the Be Sweet Sweetie Pie hat!
The Magic Ball is my personal favorite as it is a mixture of ribbon and various textured yarns that creates a
fantastic and extraordinary effect in an array of stunning colors from dark and elegant to bright and exotic.
We are currently carrying three of the Be Sweet products and one of them is the incredibly soft Extra Fine Mohair.
Made from 100% baby mohair, it has a slight boucle and comes in a vast array of heart-melting colors.
Each 25g ball is $13, has 230 yards, and can be knit on as large as US 9s (now that's my kinda yarn!).
Our favorite is the large shawl kit... made in a neutral color, this shawl will quickly become your go-to cover up for breezy summer evenings.

snow showers in Truckee over the next 5 days... Save 40-59% on more Discontinued Colors and Lines from Rowan, Nashua Gedifra and More.
Note that for some yarns, only the discontinued colors are on sale - for other yarns, ALL of the colors are on sale. We don't have a ton in stock, so make sure to grab it while you can... once these deals are gone, they're gone!
And here are a few more Discontinued Colors and Lines from Nashua...at 50% off.
Regia at 50% Off - Just in Time for Summer Sock Knitting.
And here are a few designer summer yarns that you won't want to miss...personally, i like the Mariposa, but can imagine knitting
something fun and funky for Huck out of the Merino Spray (or a warm and cuddly blanket for Wiley out of the Liberty Boucle).
Finally, we're clearing out our stock of older Rebecca Magazines by GGH.
To be quite honest, these are probably my favorite pattern magazines out there... for some reason, i just love
the whimsical photography - and the patterns are almost always right up my alley... simple and clean, and just stylish enough to wear on a daily basis.
That said, we've been tasked with cleaning house - and will be selling them at 40-50% off until they are all gone.
P.S. I threw in a link to the discontinued GGH Fiesta that we received the other day... at $1.99 per ball, grab a few to use as trim or for a baby sweater or blanket.

Here's a sampling of our handiwork this month... !!
Painted Diamond Bag | Sharon has taken to knitting like a duck takes to water and she finished the Knit One Crochet Two Painted Diamonds bag in record time. Using Noro Kureyon and US 7 needles she knit this up and says that the pattern is super easy to follow. |
Wrist Factor | Wrist Factor got Victoria's needles clicking for her daughter Alice and these great mitts will keep her hands nice and snug. The pattern is from the great book, Aware Knits and is super simple while being very stylish! I am in love with the seed stitch pattern and will be picking up a copy of the book today. NOTE Victoria went up a needle size to get her gauge, so be sure to do a swatch. |
Sway Shawl | Our customer, Marilyn, fell in love with the Cascade Ultra Pima cotton and went on Ravelry and found this great pattern! It took her 3 hanks and she used a US 8 needle to work it up. The drape is fantastic and the details are perfect for all occasions. Thanks for sharing your project with us! |
Sara's Wanida socks | Sara just had to dive in with May 2010's Lorna's Laces Limited Edition color, Mother Earth and make the Wanida socks from Cookie A's book, Sock Innovation! She grabbed 2 hanks in sock weight and her US 1 DPNs and is already finished, amazing!! |
3 Sisters Scarf #3 | If you have never used Hand Maiden Sea Silk then just ask Jeanne what she thinks about this luscious yarn? She told me that it's like knitting with butter, but not as messy, ha ha! She is using a US 5 needle and got the pattern for free through Ravelry and Jeanne recommends using Sea Silk instead of butter! |
Sandy's Soleil Scarf! | A super easy drop-stitch pattern paired with some fabulous yarn from Trendsetter results in a unique scarf that is adorned with die-cut leaves and beads! This new Trendetter Soleil yarn really sparks the imagination! |
V-Neck Shaped Cardigan | Terry is teaching a top down sweater class and decided that she would knit up Knitting Pure and Simples Neck Down V-Neck Shaped Cardigan with her students. She had stashed some of the Lorna's Lace Swirl DK in Camouflage color and has committed 7 hanks to this project. **Please note that the needles listed are what is asked for in the pattern, but Terry has adjusted her needle size after knitting her gauge swatch. |
