Spit (yes, Spit!) Splicing
Despite the gross name (and the fact that you rely on spit... or water), this is a nice invisible join that works well for most untreated natural fibers.
Some yarns like superwash don't work well for this kind of join, but any regular wool or wool and alpaca blend will work well.
If nothing else, it's just something fun to show the kids... your "cool" factor is bound to increase a bit when your 11 year old sees you spitting on yarn!
1. Take the two ends of yarn and open some of the plies up at the tail ends.
2. Overlap the the two yarns ends together, so that one lays over the other in an opposite fashion. Then using either spit or water, take the ends that you have put together and roll or rub them. The end result is sort of like felting them together.
3. The fibers will join - it might look a little thick and thin at first, but once you have knit with that join and then washed it, you won't be able to see the join at all!

Lana Grossa DesignerWood Starter Set
The Lana Grossa needles have arrived and are even more gorgeous than we had expected.
Our inventory now includes the Rainbow-inspired DesignerWood series in Circulars (24", 32", 40"),
Crochet Hooks,
and Double Crochet Hooks, plus the
Chrome Circulars.
I'm using the F/G (4.0-4.5mm) double crochet hook right now... yep, I'm crocheting another hat for Huck and since I didn't know which size hook i'd need, I thought it was easier to buy 1 hook that has 2 different sizes!:)
Lana Grossa DesignerWood Circular Needle Starter Set US Sizes 6, 7, 8 Was $40.50 Now from $32.40 (Save 20%!)
|
Talk about beautiful needles!! These Lana Grossa Designer Wood circular needles are picture perfect - and full of color. You really have to see them (and knit with them) to believe them.
In addition to being the most beautiful needle we carry, they are lightweight and comfortable to work with. They are easy on the joints which minimizes fatigue.
And the extremely flexible wire ensures a smooth transition so that your stitches will slide along easily!
We've put the 3 most popular sizes together in 2 different length starter sets: 24 inch and 32 inch... This is a great way to join all of us at JBW who love these needles... and to give them a try!
(p.s. my favorite part about these is the pointy tip...)
|
p.p.s. Wool Watcher Alert: Watch for a few pairs of these new hooks and needles on the Wool Watcher on Friday, June 25th...(just not size 6, 7 or 8!)

Hempathy!
Terry was ecstatic when the Hempathy yarn from Elsebeth Lavold arrived. She loves having yet another natural fiber possibility available here in the shop!
While hemp is not generally known for its soft texture, the Hempathy is a 41% cotton, 34% hemp and 25% Modal blend that has a nice enough hand to
begin with and only gets softer and more comfortable the more it's worn -just like your favorite pair of jeans! If your curious what Modal is (I know I was),
it is a synthetic fiber similar to rayon and adds extra durability and snugglyness to the cotton and hemp. With such a dynamic combination of fibers
Hempathy drapes beautifully and makes for a long lasting garment. This yarn comes in a spectrum of vibrantly boisterous colors and softer, more natural hues that
are perfect for summer tanks and shells as well as light scarves and casual shawls...and a few of our fav projects from the book are below... enjoy!
Wool Watcher Alert: On Saturday June 26th, a few people will get the chance to try out this yarn at a terrific price.
If you happen to be one of the lucky ones, please make sure to let us know how you like the yarn!

Debbie Bliss and Lorna's
Save 30-50% on these Luxury Yarns from Lorna's Laces and Debbie Bliss. Yes, I know that we've had the Pure Silk DK before (this time last year, if I recall correctly),
but the response to that yarn was so incredible, we decided to take Debbie Bliss up on the opportunity to help clear off her shelves.
We've got a terrific variety of colors and it will stay on sale (at 50% off) until it's gone.
The Rialto DK and Fez are current yarns of ours that we're just trying to thin out... they will only be on sale for 1-2 weeks.
Save up to $62.50 on Offhand Overstocks
Until July 1st only: Save 25% on a few different Offhand Designs bags in the overstocked Midge and Palace fabrics. The Midge is definitely my favorite of the season!
Berroco Sale - Save up to 66%
Overstocked and discontinued colors of Berroco yarns at 10-66% off. (We'll be taking better photos of the Merino Seta, Softwist and Zen Colors soon...)
2nd Rowan Sale Shipment - Save 50-70%
We sold out of the items and colors below so quickly, we had to order more! (and we were lucky that they actually had a teeny bit more... )
The selection is pretty limited, but at these prices you can hopefully
find something that will work for your next project.
